Kenmore Elite Bagged Upright Vacuum Cleaner - Performance Plus
This Bagged Upright Vacuum Cleaner offers high performance with its unique Inducer Motor with 3-D Inducer Fan. This vacuum's Direct Drive 3-Motor system is beltless, making it super low-maintenance. Modernized and improved, this vacuum includes an Infrared Dirt Sensor and a Performance Indicator. The HEPA Media filtration system traps dust, dander, pollen and other allergens, while the Pet Handi-Mate™ attachment removes pet hair. Get the performance you need with this Kenmore upright vacuum cleaner.
- Kenmore's most powerful Inducer Motor delivers 20% more air power to remove dirt and debris.
- Thanks to the Power Flow design, a full bag won't cause a drop in suction or performance, so you have the power you need to finish the job.
- To keep you focused on cleaning hard-to-see dirt, the Infrared Dirt Sensor activates a blur LED that tells you where to focus cleaning power. Once it's all clean, the light turns off so you know you are done.
- Easy to control with one hand, the air driven Pet Handi-Mate hose and wand attachment makes getting pet fur and dander off furniture and out of your car, a breeze.
- The Reach-Out telescoping wand helps you get to places you normally couldn’t reach, cleaning window treatments, ceiling fans and other above-floor surfaces without a step ladder.
- Ideal for allergy sufferers, the HEPA certified filter captures maximum debris, trapping dust, dander, pollen and other allergens so exhaust air is clean and you can breathe easy.
- The LED headlight shines in the dark to reveal dust and dirt lurking under furniture and hiding in corners, so soil build-up doesn't stand a chance.
- From high pile carpeting to bare floors, 4-position height adjustment positions the cleaning head for optimum airflow and powerful cleaning.

I bought this vacuum based on Consumer Reports Rating. The first time I used it on 8 rooms...tile, carpet, wood, rugs, and linoleum floors...I loved the dirt sensor. It caused me to concentrate on heavily soiled areas. When I finished, out of curiosity, I checked the bag. Oh my... I must have vacuumed up almost a pound of hair and dirt. I own 3 black labs, and we just entertained a house full of people for three days, so I had "cleaned" pretty well before the guests arrived. I even took pictures of the bag after I was finished...it was almost completely full. I am thrilled and do not find it loud or unusually heavy as others reported. Also, the hose is long enough to do what I needed to clean cedar beams on my ceiling. Another thing...no smell, even after cleaning up so much dog hair. I highly recommend this model for heavy duty pet hair and thorough cleaning.
We bought this vacuum based on the recommendation of consumer reports. It did a great job on our floors, but it was very load compared to our older vacuum and also didn't feel substantial, especially given its price. We returned it the following day and bought a Shark for about $200. I would not recommend this to a friend that I wanted to keep as a friend.

For the past year I have owned a Dyson DC41 Animal. When I first started using my Dyson I loved it, I would be amazed by all the gunk I would suck up! Over time though it got to be such a nuisance emptying the container after each or every other time I cleaned the house, plus, dust would go out everywhere I as emptied the canister into the garbage. I moved into a new house with high pile carpets earlier in '14 and the Dyson couldn't handle them, it wouldn't pick up anything except from my hardwood floors. Luckily, I purchased it through another retailer that accepted a return on it. After seeing this vacuum on CR, I gave it a go. I was a little skeptical since some reviewers have had long term problems with fuses and the workmanship so I purchased the 5 year warranty from Sears. My upstairs vac is an Oreck which is fantastic. Getting home I set up the vacuum which is easy. Turned it on and was instantly impressed by how well it managed to pick up everything. The dirt sensor was also amazing (although perhaps a bit gimmicky). Next to the cleaning power, I loved how it also seemed to clean and refresh the air, I noticed this right alway as well. When it came time to test it on the couch my dog sleeps on, I was impressed again, excellent job getting all the hair. Another plus is that each tool is kept with the vacuum, something my DC41 Animal lacked. My only complaints is using this vac on stairs, the hose is short and it's heavy. I read there is an extender, I'll have to try that out and see if it then becomes the perfect vacuum.
It was time to Purchase a Upright for the 2nd floor....I have a Progressive Upright (Rated #1 when purchased) for the 1st floor.....The Elite upright has unbelievable suction and when the carpet is engaged...really quiet. Ordered the ext. hose(gives me 6-7 feet ext.) and dust brush to make this a complete versatile vacuum. Always have been a Kenmore family and love the products...Thanks Sears.

We have needed a new vacuum for some time.We have had an Oreck for years, liked it. It was lightweight and did a good job.Thought about getting another but decided to do some research. To make a long story short, Consumer Reports highly recommended this Kenmore Vacuum, I was glad to be able to afford it and was looking forward to trying it. At 21 lbs., I knew it was going to be heavier than what I was used to. Took it home, very easy to put together. As I thought, very heavy but such power. I had used my Oreck before I bought the Kenmore so didn't expect to be able to see much difference. Thought my rugs/ carpets were pretty clean. Well this Kenmore has so much power, I could not believe how much my Oreck had left behind. This is truly one of the most powerful vacuums I've ever seen. HOWEVER, having said that, after pushing around a while, actually you don't push it, you guide it. It isn't self- propelled but it does seem to be in full power. I decided I could not handle this vacuum and took it back to the store. Only because I am 70 years, it is very heavy, it's very powerful and I didn't feel I could easily and comfortably control it! Decided to take it back , look for something lighter with good power! Good decision! Found the Shark Rotator Lift Away 3 in one! At 17lbs., its powerful, lighter weight, converts easily to a handheld, canister! So far it's a perfect choice for me!
This is an excellent vacuum and has exceeded my expectations on it's first day of use. The LED headlights are great to see in dark places, like the toe-kick area under cabinets and behind furniture. My old vacuum was sort of like a Shark but it was the Eureka brand and it took 4 times longer/manpower to clean my space than this little Elite beauty. The Eureka was lighter and slightly more nimble but this direct drive is the way to go and totally compensates over its weight and agility. I hardly even notice it is 21 pounds. Suction is absolutely amazing and I am so glad I went with a bagged machine over a bagless. I see other reviewers commenting about the price of bags and I noticed in the store that they were $10 for two replacement bags, that is not bad at all considering how long it will last and the filtration quality. So much nicer and cleaner than a dirty, bagless with a $10 clogged filter after two uses. The dirt sensor is awesome, one or two passes in a high traffic area and the light goes out, voila! Love the switch for the brush, this thing works very well on hard surfaces, I'm really impressed with that ability. Now the bad. I'm not crazy about the short length of the hose but I can get over that and the suction adjuster is kind of a pain, I bump it too much while using it. The rubber bumpers do not seem to cover enough surface of the vacuum for my liking, I have to really watch the off white wood work and doors around my home. The case of the vacuum seems a little chintzy and scratches easily but its a vacuum so it's easy to tolerate. This is my first use, overall I am very impressed and the benefits of this machine outweigh by a landslide any minor faults I see in it at this point in time. I picked this up for a steal and hope I am just as pleased with it in the years ahead as I am right now.
I've had this for about a month. It has excellent suction and is fantastic for picking up pet hair. Only downsides I see are that the accessory hose is a little short and the vacuum is a little heavier than some. But those are really minor issues.

I have had more brands of vacuum cleaners than I can count on both hands, Hoover, Eureka, Dirt Devil and even an overpriced Dyson... When my Hoover broke last week I went searching Consumer Reports to see what they suggested and to my surprise they recommended this Kenmore Elite as their number 1 pick! Now I will be honest, Kenmore was not a brand I had even thought of when it came to vacuum cleaners. This vacuum is great, I have a new 12' long runner that sheds like a hairy dog and my Hoover left fuzz on the edges and what didn't stick to the rug got shot all over the hardwood floor. Not with my new Kenmore! It picked up the fuzz and all of the dust on the hardwood, it did a great job on the bedroom carpets and the oriental throw rug. If it cleans my blinds as well as it does the rugs and carpets I will be in heaven :). I will come back in a month or so and add to this if I find any issues with the vacuum but I don't think I will. Don't hesitate to spend the money for this!
