Kenmore Elite Updraft Range Hood 42"
The kitchen that is in my house was designed in the 50's and has a very large opening for the range and range hood built into the cabinets. I had just recently replaced the original O'keffe & Merrit 36" range with the 40" Kenmore Elite Duel Fuel unit. I think it was only fitting that I replace the poorly functioning rangehood also. After looking around, I found this unit, and just knew that this was the one I wanted. After purchase, I read thru the directions twice, just to make sure I had everything covered before trying to install this by myself. I easily installed this, plus doing a better job of sealing off the inside of the cabinet to make sure all air is blown up and out the ductwork leading to the roof.of the house. My girlfriend loves it, my mother thinks that it was custom built and all my friends are jealous. Overall, I couldn't be more pleased with this product. I will continue to look to Sears when I comes to all my home purchases.

What kind of thinking is it, that thought to design this?

Ok, this is 42" wide, covering a 5-burner gas cooktop. Costs about $350. It has two great halogen lights. It has one three-speed exhaust fan, which is convenient, as most of us have one vent to connect. One guess where the vent should be in this unit. Oh, I don't know; center? Wrong. Far left side. Ehausts nothing from the right burners. Smoke curls right up and over the lip of the hood. The filters are dishwasher safe. But they seldom need to be washed, as the particulate matter in the exhaust fumes goes right through, depositing on the hood's inside surface, to eventually drip from a flange edge onto the tiled counter below. Someone at Sears  looked at this and said, "Yes, let's make and/or sell this." My parents had an all-Sears kitchen. I have an all-Sears kitchen. What happened to you? What?

Overall
A welll designed, sleek unit.

We spent several weeks researching vent hoods and finally settled on the Kenmore Elite 42" Updraft Range Hood with 3-Setting Halogen Lighting.  It was available in black, which matched the rest of the appliances, and was available in a 42" width, which was necessary for our cook top.

We installed the range hood in the vent-lessconfiguration as we have no vent to the outside. Installation was simple and the directions were straight forward.  We purchased the filters and the light bulbs for this unit separately.  This caused a few days delay before we were able to use the range hood while cooking.

The range hood works even better than we had hoped. The filters take the contaminants out of the air and the halogen lights really brighten up the work space. We are very pleased with the product and would recommend it without hesitation.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

I purchased the kenmore elite stainless range hood in 2000. Yesterday while cleaning it the lights went off. They will not come on and neither will the fan. I really like this unit and is surprised that a kenmore elite would fail like that. Considering purchasing a new (kenmore elite) unit as a replacement.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Hope I got a Lemon

I purchased this vent-hood in 2002 and have had it 5 years. I have always been pleased with it. I am not able to vent air out but have it set up as ventless. I am pleased with its ability to clear the air. It is easy to use and simply wipes off to clean. I have had only two problems since owning it. In the past year the slightest bump will cause the filters to fall out of the bottom (consequently onto whatever I am cooking). Also, while wiping it off Thanksgiving day (almost 5 years to the day from its installation) it shorted out for some reason and now NOTHING works...vent or lights. This is very disappointing to me for a $300 vent-hood. I expect a vent-hood to last YEARS, as they should. These two problems are truly the only reason I rate it at a 3. I plan to buy another one (although I hate to spend that kind of money again so soon!) in hopes that the broken one I currently own is a dud!

I would recommend this product to a friend.
