Laminated Coverings Protect Important Documents

When important paper and plastic items do not last long enough on their own, a transparent laminated covering protects them from damage. This can be applied with a laminator and laminator supplies. Sears has a variety of sheer protective covering products from Scotch, 3M and other brands. Create and protect sign labels, security or name badges, tickets, parking and admittance passes, menus, credentials, photos, scrapbooks and more using lamination.

There are different methods used in laminating. The 3M laminating system, for example, uses a hot or cold application, depending on the model. Items requiring lamination are fed through the machine. They come out on the other end inside a transparent protective coating. The width of the machine limits the width of the document. The document length is limited only by the length of the roll of protective material inserted into the laminating system. Sears carries GBC and 3M laminator supplies, machine accessories and roll refills.

Laminating systems using the more traditional heat-based application create a thicker, sturdier finished product. The thicker the protective covering, the heavier the barrier. Sears laminating systems use electric, manual or battery power.

When using a laminator and laminator supplies on items that are heat sensitive but still need a durable covering, choose from Sears laminators with a cold lamination option. Laminator features include double-sided clear coverings or a clear front with an adhesive backing.

When there are only a few items or the protective coating does not have to be heat sealed or very thick, laminating sheets are an option. Scotch laminating sheets typically cover craft projects, instruction sheets, schoolwork and office information memos. The paper or plastic item is placed inside the plastic sleeve, then sealed with adhesive. The edges may be trimmed with a pair of scissors or a cropping board for a clean and professional appearance. A border must be kept around the item to create a sealed edge that prevents air and water from entering.
