Great KitchenAid Alternative, Buy it if you make bread!!!

I have bought both a kitchenaid artisan stand mixer and this mixer and tried them side by side.

The recipe I made was a simple pizza dough with a maximum of 3 cups of flour and yeast and water (won't disclose whole recipe :-))

                                           Kenmore Elite                                                      Kitchenaid

Noise           Louder, but consistent sound (no grinding noise)           Less Loud, but ginding noises can be heard on first use

Speed                                   Same                                                                   Same

Power                                400watts                                                             325 watts

Warranty                         5 year replacement included                          1 year replacement included

Price                                      179                                                                        299

Dough Mixing Hook                 Actually kneads dough                                     Moves it around the bowl

Mixing Light                       YES                                                                            NO

Number of Mixing Bowls                2 (5Qt, and 3Qt)                                            5 Qt

Attachments                       All KitchenAid Attachments                                 All KitchenAid Attachments

Standard Use: If you use this mixer for just cake baking and cupcakes and whipcream creation then you need to probably get the kitchenaid if you want a wide range of colors. But if you want to make pizza dough or wheat breads or other things on a daily or even weekly basis you need to get this mixer because both will probably strip their gears out  over the next five years but only one has a five year warranty and local replacement. So make the smart decision like I did, a mixer is going to be loud no matter what but if you want bread for home then you need to buy this kenmore Elite Stand Mixer

Faulty mixer was fire hazard; not backed by Sears
We bought this mixer 3 years ago, when the red became available, after comparing it to the Kitchen Aid--it seemed to be a good value, and used all the Kitchen Aid attachments. We have used it less than 25 times. One night it turned on by itself-all the controls were off! We unplugged it, and a few days later we tried it in another outlet-the machine started turning when the controls were off, and the arm was raised! Then, although the light was on, the controls no longer worked. I emailed Sears, but never got a response, so I took it to the store and was told the warranty was only 1 year, and I should've bought the extended plan for 3 years. Now it's worthless, and I will never throw away my money on a Kenmore product again if this is the way they treat their customers. We currently have a complete Kenmore Elite kitchen, but when the time comes we will replace the appliances elsewhere.

Great Mixer

Love this mixer. It's very heavy duty and has mixed everything perfectly. It did require a bit of adjustment out of the box, but we have never had to adjust it again and we've mixed quite a bit with it. Would recommend.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Be Careful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Purchased this item 18 Months ago. Used it maybe 20 times. Unit began turning on by itself. Turned on with the head up or down. Then it began timing out and would not turn on for a number of hours. I can see from other review that this is not an uncommon occurrence. Think twice before buying!!!!!!!!!!!!

Outstanding Prefer it to the Kitchen Aid

I know many say it's too loud but thats because it has a more powerful and reliable motor then the Kitchen Aid. Love it it's solid uses all the Kitchenaid accessories. You really notice the difference when you make bread with it the Kitchen aid can not hang with it.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Do NOT Buy this Mixer!!!

First of all I want to say I am a big supporter of Sears, I have been a customer all my life. But I have had this Elite model for about 4 years, so I am an old hand about this mixer. I paid over $180.00 for it but now it is nothing but a boat anchor. Sears themselves will not repair them when they break down and the small appliance repair person Sears referred me to won't even repair them. The repair people told me that these mixers are made in China and they are hopeless to repair. I had a $15.00 hand mixer that lasted over 15 years, and I inherited my grandmother's Sunbeam stand mixer that is older than me and still works ~ and I am 62 years old. So I think when you pay this much for a mixer that Sears should put a longer warranty on them (dream on) and AT LEAST repair them when they break. It turns out that this repair shop WILL service the old Sunbeam so guess what I am going to do? The Elite was noisy and was so quirky it would just begin to start up when not in use while the dial was on "off" for no reason. I even wrote a story about it being possessed that made others laugh at the time, but now it is not so funny when I can't even repair a $200.00 mixer that only lasted less than 4 years. not happy

This mixer is not the quality that Kenmore is known for. I received this mixer as a gift for Christmas. The first time I used it, I noticed that the paint on the paddle was beginning to chip off. This is poor quality and would like to receive a replacement of the paddle or possibly exchange the mixer for something of better quality.

Too loud

I bought this for my wife's birthday and it was so loud that we couldn't even have a conversation while it was running. We returned it the next day and ended up with a kitchenaid professional 6000HD which is much quieter. I'm not sure if we got a bad unit or if all of them are that loud.

Worth the money!

We bought this on sale online and picked up in store. The mixer itself is great but our's was missing the owner's manual so we didn't know how to use it without searching the web. Kenmore and Sears both were not helpful on getting a replacement!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Nice mixer- like color

Nice mixer - like color. It does what it should, not noisy. The only problem would be absence of attachments. But, front attachments for Kitchen Aid will fit! Just got a grinder and it fits fine. Own it for 2 weeks.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Price difference worth drawbacks?

A good mixer for the price, but it has drawbacks. I bought this in black (sleek) at a really good price a couple years ago. It works well and I like the work light, but it is so loud I'm considering wearing ear plugs when I use it for an extended time. I use the food grinder attachment to make large batches of mashed potatoes and the fruit strainer to make large amounts of applesauce. I have to wedge a folded piece of foil in between the attachment and the mixer to keep the attachment from wobbling. I also got the ice cream maker as I was told all the KA attachments/accessories fit this mixer, but the adapter for the paddle does not stay on the mixer. I'm still using it with extreme care and I don't make ice cream very often. Also, somehow a piece of the finish chipped off the beater. I haven't banged or dropped it and I always wash by hand. If I could afford the Artisan, I would get that instead. There were no reviews when I purchased mine. I sure wish there had been.
