    x cargo rooftop carrier July 17, 2010

    Excellent product. Have had ours since 1999. It has been all over the country. My brother has borrowed it also and has used it for multiple family vacations. It has also been used on multiple vehicles and fits great. We have also used it to haul 2 daughters to college over an 8 year span. Could not have done without it. We bought small locks that fit great. Never once had anything get wet or ruined. We even had to leave in a hurricane evacuation from Myrtle beach and everything was perfectly dry when we finally got home.

    Sears X-Cargo Carrier quality is average...better secure it well June 10, 2010

    Purchased online with store pick-up.  Pick up was smooth but the already assembled carrier was very poorly put together.  During trip, top came unlatched; I had to dis-assemble and re-assemble before the unit worked properly.  I still do not trust the mounting brackets and utilize a tie down to help secure the unit to the van.  You get what you pay for... my advice is to purchase a hard shell carrier and stay away from the flimsy plastic type.

    If you are going to purchse this Cargo Carrier ensure you purchase bunji cords or other straps to keep this carrier from opening up on the highways.

    We lost a lot of items traveling from one state to another state.  Good luck on this investments.

    This unit can be tricky to put together, so be prepared to take your time with it. I mounted this unit to a Hyundai Veracruz SUV with the universal mounting kit purchased separately. My car was NOT listed as compatible, but I cannot see how this cargo unit would not fit any cars crossrails with the unversal kit. The cargo carrier holds an incredible amount of baggage and served us well on a family trip from the Hudson Valley, NY to Disney in Florida. I cannot see how the slimmer models, though more svelte and aesthetically good looking, could be as useful as this luggage bubble. I purchased this unit on sale, therefore it was nearly a hundred bucks cheaper than any other option on the market. The locks seems to secure the unit well and the spring hinges are surprisingly capable, as it never bonked me in the head while scurrying through it. I do believe it's construction or gauge of plastic used would better be served if it was thicker and sturdier, as I would not feel comfortable driving 70+ MPH while empty, but I drove to Florida at speeds greater than 75 MPH while fully loaded without incident. Make sure you tighten down on the knobs that clamp down to your cross rails several times during your journey, though this can be difficult if your vehicle is high as my own. Good Luck!!

    I purchased the car topper after some items I thought were tied down securely came lose nearly causing a major accident.  We use it not only for luggage but for groceries as well. It has become an extension of our minivan.
