The softner was out of salt causing the tank to fill with water up to #3. The low salt lever light is not working. I purchased the softner year and half ago.
Used this softner for a month before it stopped working. Called for warranty support. Tech took a full week to come out and said the control board was fried due to water getting on it. Despite this product being intended for use in close proximity to water it apparently has little to protect the circuit board from water. I feel the product is poorly designed in this regard. The cost for repair was almost 400.00 and would take another 2 weeks for the part to be installed. We instead decided to purchase another new softener from another retailer. Never again Sears.
I had a similar softner from Sears that gave me great service for about eight years before the electronic's failed. If was easy to install, only took about 10 min.

Don't buy this unit or any types similar. They have a bad circuit board design. I guess it's the salt fumes coming from the tank that eventually cause the main circuit board to go bad, through a corrosive effect. Mine lasted a little over 2 years before going bad. The board cost over $200 to replace, if you do it yourself. This is the second unit of this type that I have owned. The first one did the same thing. After replacing the board 3 times over about a 5 year period, I replaced the unit with the newer one. The salesman convinced me that Sears had corrected the problem concerning the circuit board shorting out with the newer models. WRONG!!! Don't waste your time and money! I know that I won't again.
I've had it for 2 years. The turbine that measures the flow rate (for when to recharge, part #7290931) stops after about a year and it stops recharging. Plastic coating on turbine flakes off, preventing it from rotating. Push in bypass valve (no need to shut water off), remove 2 black connector clips, and pull out turbine from outlet tube and replace. you can re-use the old turbine by removing all plastic flakes.
Replaced a 13 year old Kenmore Softener with this one. Had to make some plumbing adjustments, but seems to be functioning just fine. Hope it lasts at least as long as our prior Kenmore.
Bought to replace a Culligan unit that only lasted 2 yrs. We had prior experience with a Sears unit so didn't waste time shopping elsewhere this time. Bought the maintenance plan too so know we will have soft water for five years.
