Kenmore 3.4 cu. ft. Top-Load Washing Machine - Optimum Efficiency

Featuring a Dual Action Plus agitator and powerful spin cycles, the Kenmore 3.4 cu. ft. top-load washing machine 20022 offers energy efficient cleaning to save you money. The unique agitator works detergents deep into clothes using both sideways and clockwise motions, while the bleach dispenser delivers perfectly mixed concentrations to more effectively clean your clothes. The powerful 700 rpm spin cycle shortens the time required for drying, saving even more energy. With four load sizes, four water temperatures and eight cycle options, this Kenmore top-loading washing machine allows you to adjust for each individual load.

  • The Dual Action® agitator moves both side-to-side and clockwise to double the cleaning power while still delivering gentle care for delicate fabrics.
  • Multiple wash cycles give your hardy work clothes, delicate linens, and stained fabrics the treatment they need to look their best.
  • A small footprint makes this washer an easy fit for apartments, basements and starter homes, while powerful performance delivers the same clean you’d expect from larger machines.
  • Whether you’re washing wool, cotton or high-tech fabrics, a choice of four water temperatures makes it easy to customize your wash.
  • Rapid spin speeds squeeze excess water from clothes, linens and more for faster, easier transfer to your dryer and shorter dry times.

There is nothing wrong with this washer folks!
Well first off I wanted the most inexpensive washer I could find at Sears, this one was it. I hated that it had all the negative feedback and that made me search the others. Then I went back to actually read about the negatives vs positives. The things everyone complained about, in my opinion, was due to user error or just not used to a more modern washer. They are programmed differently and more electronic than the older models. That's just technology for you, you cannot go backwards with these types of things. You cannot buy a new 15 year old washer today-get over it. You have to deal with industry standards like the features that this one has. This thing is quiet. Couple extra noises while it auto-calibrates in the beginning so what. I was worried about not having enough water level, it came up perfectly and I wasn't even on the largest setting. No leaks like someone else said. Washed clean, all detergent was washed off, no dry spots on clothing. Dried very well with the spin. I had no reason to lift the lid during any of the cycles but decided to anyways. Press the pause button and it stops for you-press again and it picks up where it left off--no problems there. If someone actually wanted to get rid of the lid lock its only 2 screws and you can remove it and place into the top receiver--problem solved--open whenever you like. It is there for your "safety" of course. I would buy this model again. Hope it holds up for many years as I am in no hurry to get rid of it.

It makes me cry
Each time I do laundry it gives me huge stress. I am disappointed because 1) when I load the washer and it fills the water while I am loading, in a couple of minutes it would drain all the water 2) if I forget to put something and try to open the lid to put it in, the cycle will start over. 3) when it started vibrating and I want to balance the clothes the cycle starts over from the beginning. In other words you cannot interrupt the cycle or it will start everything over. 4) when I put it on rinse cycle it started the washing cycle instead. 5) it has 4 water temperature settings, but in reality mine gives only two. For example hot water setting gives warm water by mixing hot water with cold and as the result I can only have cold or warm water. I need hot water to wash batting for my allergic kids. I would like to have the temperature that settings offer without saving energy for me by adding cold water. 6) I was promised by the repair department to have a technician to come out and look at it, but I spent two entire days waiting for the appointed vista, but no one came. We are tired of this machine and Sears' lousy "service" and we are returning it back.

apprehensive

After reading all the reviews. I was dreading replacing my 18 year old washer. It was nothing fancy so I wasn't looking forward to the changes a new one was going to bring. Went to the local sears and looked at the ones in my price range. the agitators went up and down side to side etc. to me that's just something more to go wrong. I just wanted a plain old washer that would clean my clothes. We went with this one. first problem was the drain hose wouldn't stay on. wasn't long enough to reach the drain. (easy fix just used our old hose.. it was a better rubber hose instead of the plastic one that came with the washer.) The noise it makes is different than the old one. But not any louder. My washer is in my kitchen. the noise doesn't interfere with anything. My only question and Im hoping someone can answer it, is.. How is the agitator suppose to work? the bottom part spins with the basket and the top does the agitation. when I spin it manually. I would honestly recommend this washer, it hasn't given us any trouble at all.

Hate it!

We have always owned Kenmore appliances and loved them. The last washer lasted 17 years so when we needed a new one we only wanted a Kenmore. We did purchase the least expensive on but I really hate it. I don't know why they put that sensor board in it. It you put it on the wrong load you have to cancel and wait about 5 minutes to try again. It is so aggravating. And alot of times when you hit the button to pause so you can open the lid (it locks) it cancels out. I have never been more disappointed in an appliance in my life. I would advise anyone against buying this product.

Kenmore is no longer a great appliance builder!

Our last washing machine (likely a Kenmore) lasted thirty years. It didn't die, we bought a new house and gave it up for a shiny new pair of Kenmore appliances including this model. I wish we had not let go of that old machine, because the new one, just a couple months over two years old has become unusable. I should have realized we were making a mistake when the salesperson said, "I wouldn't expect to get thirty years our of these 'modern' appliances." One day recently I noticed pieces of plastic in the drum. Then a wash or two later the drum began banging violently every load and even dropped off the suspension in one corner. I was able to rehang it, and it fell off another corners suspension. Each load becomes horribly unbalanced and a traumatic experience for everyone in the house. I am so disappointed in what Kenmore appliances have become. What happened to Kenmore quality?

Locking Lid

This is the worst washer I have ever owned. While it cleans ok, I am always frustrated with the LOCKING LID. I was told by rep to hit the pause button to unlock the lid at any time - does NOT work. I have to stand next to washer and guess which click I hear that will allow me to open lid to add fabric softener. I have even had to re-rinse load to get softener in. Was told by rep lid lock can't be disengaged or washer won't work. Of course by the time this was figured out, washer cannot be returned (past 30 day period). What a complete waste of money. I would not recommend this washer to anyone!

Had to get used to...

...the locking lid is a pain...it's a noisy machine, sounds like a jet engine taking off when balancing...long wash cycles even on 'regular' cycle. But...the spin cycle is AWESOME!!! Takes less time to dry the clothes and towes. I like the 2nd rinse cycle for xtra dirty clothes. Large tub can handle bed spead/quilt easily.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

DO NOT BUY THIS WASHER

I wish I never purchased this washer! It shreds our clothes (even when it is on the gentle cycle). Half of the cothes come out dry. This is not becasue the spin cycle is so wonderful it helps to dry the clothes, it's because the clothes were never washed. The washer is very small and if you try to do a "normal size" load, the washer makes horrible clunking noises. If that's not bad enough, all of your darks come out with white lint all over them. Worst washer I have ever owned! Needless to say it is being exchanged. What a waste!!!

Purchase only if Necessary

Be prepared to purchase an extended warranty for this model. After moving three times in about three years, my washer stopped working out of the blue. I researched Kenmore's forums for this particular model and the top two issues with it is the locking latch and or the motherboard. If a repairman comes out to service your washer and they determine it is a motherboard issue, go buy a new washer. The cost of a new motherboard is as costly as a new washer. I am not pleased with the quality of product because I expected more from the Kenmore brand. If it wasn't for the extended warranty I had purchased I wouldn't be able to replace my busted washer.

3 year washer...If you're lucky.

This washer lasted three years. Wife said it made an awful noise then wouldn't spin or pump the water out. Now it won't do anything. The electriconic control panel costs almost as much as a new washer. Will not buy another Kenmore/ Whirlpool.

So far I love it.

This is my 3rd Kenmore washer; 1st one lasted approx 20 years (7 years before kids showed up), 2nd one lasted 12 years (intense kid years). I went looking for the most basic machine I could buy, this fits what I wanted. I read the reviews before I bought the machine and now again after I have owned this washer 1 month. The piece of advice that I followed from the reviews was "Read the manual", I did. New washers work differently than the old ones. Differently, not badly. The things I really like about this washer is (1) it is very quiet, (2) it has a larger capacity than my old machine (3) I really like the cool temperature setting. I don't use liquid softener, so I can't comment about that complaint. I haven't had any issues with laundry soap dissolving and I have somewhat hard water at my home. These washers, wash clothes very gently. I was concerned that my husband's nasty work clothes wouldn't get clean, but only once have I had to re wash something and those were a pair of his heavy work jeans the were very heavily soiled. I like this machine.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
