Get the LG LT600P PN 5231JA2006B filter instead of the Kenmore 9990 as its fits perfectly. Kenmore doesn supply enough info to compare impurity removal apples to apples, but I do know that 5231JA2006A is the older version and 5231JA2006B is the newer version that removes more impurities as follows: 96.7% of Mercury, 99.31% of Lead, 95.9% of Atrazine, 96.3% of Benzene, 93.06% of 2,4-D, 99.09% of Lindane, 99.99% of Cysts, 99.3% of Turbidity, 99.9% of Particulates (Class I), 97.6% of Chlorine Taste & Odor.
These filters are wonderful except for one things...they don't last forever. They definitely improve taste of water and I trust that they take out the bad stuff.

If your water "off" in taste and your refrigerator uses this filter you should be happy with the clean up in taste it provides. Good tasting water is important to us. We don?t use a lot of water, mostly for drinking, coffee and tea, so we can use the filter for a year which makes it very cost effective. This filter effectively removed the chlorine after taste from our water. If you use a lot of water, you might want to shorten the replacement period to 6-months or when you start to detect a flavor change.

This is an excellent filter for the type of water we have. The taste of the water is not good unfiltered but very good through the filter.
