Get the LG LT600P PN 5231JA2006B filter instead of the Kenmore 9990 as its fits perfectly. Kenmore doesn supply enough info to compare impurity removal apples to apples, but I do know that 5231JA2006A is the older version and 5231JA2006B is the newer version that removes more impurities as follows: 96.7% of Mercury, 99.31% of Lead, 95.9% of Atrazine, 96.3% of Benzene, 93.06% of 2,4-D, 99.09% of Lindane, 99.99% of Cysts, 99.3% of Turbidity, 99.9% of Particulates (Class I), 97.6% of Chlorine Taste & Odor.
It works well, no complaints, love that I can easily purchase it at the local Sears and change it out myself. Love the fact that my fridge has a warning light that it is time to change the filter
While we were away in Florida and our refrigerator was on, the power went out and it did something to it. As a consequence when the power came back on, everything in the refrigerator froze as well as the filter. When we returned we had to replace the filter. Since then everything has been fine. I just believe that the cost of the new filter was quite high.
I thought I'd save a few bucks (more than a few, actually) by buying two generic filters, and I'm sorry I did. Both left a plastic-taste even after a week of use each. I returned via ******.com and then bought the real deal at Sears. The Kenmore filters, although twice as expensive, leaves me with fresh-tasting, properly-filtered water. I will never again buy cheap replacement filters.
A little expensive but necessary to get the best tasting water from the refrigerator door and to have decent tasting ice cubes. Too bad it doesn't tell you how much water has gone through the filter so you know when to replace...it's about gallons used, not length of time passed snce replavement.
