5 Indoor Cats & 1 Dog - This Vac Gets The Hair
Love this Progressive Intelliclean vac!!! I've owned Oreck, Hoover Bagless Wind Tunnel and many others and this Kenmore beats them all. I "tried" the Dyson ... no thanks, I was not impressed. After the Dyson disappointment, I checked Consumer Reports and learned about this highest rated Kenmore Progressive. I returned the Dyson the day after I purchased it and then went directly to Sears and got this machine for $200 less. I really like the Intelliclean lights (optics). The first time I used it I wondered if the light would ever go green to indicate there was no more dirt coming into the vac - when it did go green I realized just how much dirt had remained in the carpet after using the Wind Tunnel :-( It works great on both carpet and tile. The 3 level suction is great to use when vac'ing throw rugs, etc!! The suction via the hand tools is also super. The machine is well built (Dyson was cheap plastic) and has a long, heavy duty hose for the hand tools. The power cord is long so no need to change plug for other rooms. Quick and easy handle assembly (not so with Wind Tunnel). Another super feature is this machine does not have belts that wear out and require changing!!! With 6 animals in the house, I must vac 3-4 times a week. The bagless Wind Tunnel was a major hassle to clean "before" I could even vac - it has a terrible design and I had to clean the filters every time I used the machine. I'm back to a bag and now understand the bag is "part of the filter" system!! If you can go into a Sears store to make this purchase, do so!! The information provided by the friendly sales woman was very valuable and helpful. And to the one comment about it not having a bag ... it does come with a non-reusable, cloth bag, so the missing bag was a factory oversight. This is a great machine and I highly recommend it!!!

Who designs these things?!
I'll start by saying this, "If you have nothing else to clean except open floor, this may be the best vacuum you could buy!". Beyond that this vacuum isn't designed to be convenient at all. First thing, there is NO suction on the edges to clean up against walls or baseboard, neither the sides nor the front have this capability. Secondly, the attachments are a joke! These are poorly made and hard to assemble it's a a six step process to set up one of the tools...did I mention that the attachments and hoses are NOT a standard size. rendering any specialty attachments you own useless. Thirdly I'll mention that the dirt sensor is only semi-useful providing you understand what it's sensing, dirt that is already in the vacuum, not dirt still on the floor. Finally I mention my disappointment in Consumer Reports, to rank this vacuum as a "Best Buy" based, I assume, solely on the suction power, which says to me that they're really not doing their job.

Amazing Vacuum!

I have had this vacuum since 2007 and I absolutely love it! The only issues I have had with it in all that time (7 years) were due to dog-induced damage. (My puppy chewed through the bit of hose that connects the base to the hose attachment [I fixed it with duct tape], and then in 2013 our other dog chewed up two of the attachments that came with the vacuum; my beloved floor brush and the crevice tool). I got the puppy-induced damage fixed about a year later when the duct tape started to cause clogging issues. (Now, THAT was the worst experience ever. But that was Sears' fault, not Kenmore's). If this one ever breaks (which I doubt; my mother has a metal upright Kenmore that she has been using for over 35 years) I am definitely going to replace it with the same type of model.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Very Disappointed in this vacuum..

I am so disappointed in this vacuum I hardly know where to begin. First of all we purchased this vacuum after thoroughly researching in Consumer Report magazine to find the best vacuum for our needs. My last vacuum was a Phantom upright which worked well, but was really heavy so wanted something easier to use. This was an expensive vacuum, the reviews looked good... but BIG mistake. It's so cheaply made, all the parts are plastic and within the first couple months the points that hold the wand together had broken off. It was under warranty so they replaced the wand, but its such Poor quality. The wand has since cracked and had to be taped together. The vacuum is heavy to use, inconvenient to use the attachments as it takes many steps to put together. The power attachment that I thought would be great on throw rugs and furniture does not work.. the motor slows way down and stops running when in use. The vacuum Does Not have an edge cleaner with suction to clean up against walls and baseboards. I am now shopping for a new vac because I can't take this any more. I would even hate to donate this piece of junk to Goodwill. I have put up with it for over 5 yrs because it was so expensive. My husband even hates this vacuum. One thing is for sure .. I won't use Consumer Report again to choose a product. I'll read online reviews by people who have actually tried the product.. Don't waste your money on this vacuum.

Long Lasting

Just reviewing now after several years of use. Great, so far: durable, good suction, and plenty of options. Doesn't get as low as my earlier machine for cleaning under the beds, and it's a little hard on stairs, like all non-cannister vacs would be.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Hands Down Best Vacuum On The Market

I do carpet cleaning for my business. I use this vacuum in that business several times per day, and you wouldn't believe the disgustingly dirty places I go into. (alot of low-income apartments) I am always amazed at how well this vacuum performs. I have definately beat this thing up but it still works wonders. I have also tried the expesive $800 - $1200 vacuums (because they might be lighter) but keep going back to this one. It's a little heavy but it has just made me stronger. Anyone who doesn't like this vacuum is just plain wrong.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

I love this vacuum cleaner

Prior to buying this vacuum cleaner, I'd only ever had hand me downs from my family. wow, what a difference! The suction is fabulous, the dirt sensor light can be disturbing, but mostly it's great. I love that it has a HEPA filter, to avoid that "dusty" smell that most vacuums leave behind. Love it!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Excellent

Love this vacuum. Works great, has all the tools attached to it so they are there when you need them (and easy to attach to the hose). I preferr the cloth bags to the paper ones as they last longer and seem to filter better. The only vacuum that is better is a Kirby, but they run 8-10 times as much to buy!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Best Vacuum ever

I have never had such a great vacuum cleaner! It doesn't have a belt to break, and will pick up everything, within reason. The hose has never gotten clogged, and it is easy to use, not too heavy, and going from bag to attachments is very easy.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Very durable vacuum cleaner

This is a very durable vacuum cleaner. It really picks up dirt from carpet and tile well. If this vacuum cleaner ever plays out, I will definitely be buying me another one.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Cleans great, but is not reliable.

This is the best cleaning vacuum I have ever owned. This is one of the few vacuums that has a direct drive system for the agitator roller brush. This gives more power to the the brush to keep it rotating at higher speeds and get more dirt out of the carpet. The dirt sensor is very easy to read and you know when an area of the carpet has been cleaned satisfactorily.

I do not like having to manage bags, a HEPA filter and a sponge filter. The HEPA filters are not too expensive, but its another item that you to keep in stock and change on a regular basis.

I do not think these vacuums are built to last. I know a few people that have owned these vacuums for a few years and all of them have had something repaired. Just recently I smelled an electric burning smell coming from the exhaust air of my vacuum. I diagnosed the problem and determined that the fan motor was going bad. A new motor is approximately $80.00 plus labor. Since I like the cleaning ability of the vacuum and they don't make this vacuum anymore, I will pay for the part and make the repair myself.

The vacuum cleans great, but it is not reliable. I would expect better from a Kenmore product.

WAY too heavy, and doesn't even roll freely.

I've been using this ridiculous machine for over a year . It's monstrously large and heavy, unwieldly, and doesn't seem to roll freely at all. Edge cleaning's poor, of course don't even think of getting it under a bed or dresser without changing attachments. Wrestling it downstairs (am a 100 lb 5'4" non-athletic woman) is a dangerous, royal pain-in-the-butt ! And vacuuming stairs ? Forget about it.

It does snarf up the dirt well enough, I suppose.

I suppose I could channel some of my deep reserve of loathing and resentment to help me propel the thing.
