Kenmore Progressive Canister Vacuum - Superior Cleaning
Cleaning floors and furniture is now a simple process with the Kenmore Progressive canister vacuum. A 2-motor system, retractable cord storage, Stair Grip and variable speed settings make carpet and bare floor cleaning a cinch. This vacuum's true HEPA filter keeps pet dander and dust out of the air so you can breathe easy. From the 6-foot hose that swivels 360 degrees and reaches the highest surfaces to the horsehair dusting brush for fine wooden furniture and floors, this vacuum has the tools to get the job done.
- Designed to make cleaning-up after pets a cinch, the Pet PowerMate™ attachment lifts hair, dander and more from furniture, rugs and carpeting in seconds.
- Ideal for all types of cleaning, the variable speed control lets you adjust the vacuuming speed based on the amount of dust and dirt you're picking up.
- The exclusive Stair Grip™ feature keeps the canister body upright and securely in place while the stairs get cleaned, for solid performance and increased safety.
- A 6-foot hose reaches from floor to ceiling, around corners and far beyond, so no matter where you need to clean, dirt cannot escape.
- Quick to connect and featuring an array of attachments, the CrossOver Handle rapidly transitions the vacuum from carpet to flooring, crevice cleaning to pet hair pick-up.
- The True HEPA certified filter can be trusted to remove almost all significant allergens from air flowing through the vacuum, so you can breathe easy.

Okay, we all saw that one coming!
We have had this vacuum for about a month now and our floors haven't been this clean for some time that's for sure! My wife says it must be a great vacuum since the kids all seem to fight for it and are always vacuuming their rooms! I suppose I should say thank you, Kenmore, for that !
Now, on to the review.
I like the power of this thing. It is a 12 amp motor spinning the impeller and it creates more suction than I have seen in a vacuum cleaner in some time.
I can go from carpet to wood floors simply by turning off the brushes in the head.
It sits on the stairs allowing us to clean the carpet on the stairs (nice).
The Pet PowerMate and Pet Upholstery Tool actually work! This is a big plus as we have a cat and a dog and they like the furniture!
Of all the features, my kids love the cord retraction system the most!
It seems to take more effort than it should to get it to turn a corner. The handle turns a lot before the head actually turns in the direction you want it to go so it isn't as effortless as it could be. For me it is a design flaw that is easily forgotten when you look at all the positive aspects.
Most vacuum cleaners will allow you to lift the power head for whatever reason you may choose and this unit does not allow for that. When the head is unlocked you can lay the handle on the floor and the head remains flat. If you never have to lift the head you're golden, if you do (like the wife needed to today) then you're out of luck.
I think, for the most part, Sears/Kenmore got this one right. Aside from a couple of nit-picky complaints I liek the way the unit functions and my favorite feature is the "Exclusive Stair Grip" which is really just a piece of foam set at an angle but at least it shows someone who uses a vacuum was involved in the design of this thing! It works and that is what's most important.
Not happy with this vacuum...I have purchased 5 Kennmore Progressive canister vacs in the last 15 years. They were the BEST vacuum anyone could own. The older model, couldnt be "killed. The first one I purchased is still working! it is 15 years old...my son stole it from me about 7 years ago...I bought another and two years later my other son took that one...still working...this has happened 3 times. I purchased this one with great apprehension due to the obvious changes they made. The wand is shorter, the wand is also wider, and the (couplings??) where the attachments go on are so big that they dont fit anywhere the old one did. (under dressers, behind furniture) The "easy release" foot thing is so big that it catches on the bottom of the bed and disconnects the power-mate. It wont get into corners the handle is not comfortable to hold...I could go on endlessly! I dont think the person who designed this vacuum ever used one. It LOOKS all pretty and "steamlined," but it is not functional. Perhaps if someone never experienced the previous model they will like it , but this vacuum was not made better. Lots of plastic...including the button that releases the attachments....(used to be metal) that little clip broke today...Ive had the unit for 3 months....will not be purchasing another! Sears, you should have stuck with the Tried and True!
I have only used the vacuum a couple of times but it seems to work beautifully. I love the suction power. It moves very nicely on big wheels. It can be a little heavy. Nicely cleans the stairs. I love that it has the light to use in dark spaces. Have just purchased the canister bags and they are not that expensive and Sears does carry them.
This vacuum has great suction and works well for general cleaning. For $200, I think it was a good value. I am not too thrilled with the built in brush attachment which doesn't have a lot of soft bristles, however.
If you just want to vacuum floors and carpets this is a great vacuum. But, you buy a canister so you can do a lot more. The entire wand design of this vacuum is extremely poor & very bulky. Due to the design, you cannot fit the other attachments into tight spaces. The crevice wand is half as long as the older version and it has side vents that substantially reduce its suction power. The brush attachment is an integral part of the wand. Its bristles are short and stiff. It has a wide design which makes it useless in tight spaces such as when cleaning ceiling fans or venetian blinds. It does not swivel like the older model which allows you to reach tight spaces. And, it will not fit on the extended end of the wand for reaching ceiling corners. None of the older attachments will fit the newer wand because the electrical contacts are way different. Even with the power head removed, the wand is too wide to effectively vacuum along the crevice between baseboard and carpet. I am returning this extremely poorly designed vacuum tomorrow!.
After hearing about how good this machine was I gave it a try, after 2 years, the canister part is fine but the Brush Head is totally worn out the roller wheels are kept on by cheap plastic clips , the rubber coating covering the wheels has completely worn away, unable to replace without replacing the entire brush head, which costs almost just as much as the entire machine, for $300.00 I was expecting more. Never Again

cleaning was very good, but find the size of the wand to be at the outer limits for small hands. while trying to release tools, it required both hands & it was a struggle. and, the dust brush is a big joke....did anyone try cleaning in tight places with it ??? a small, round dust brush with long bristles is a far better "weapon" for walls, woodwork, & all 'round attacks on dirt. I have such a brush and 2 extension wands to reach ceilings, but alas, they are smaller than the opening you built for those massive attachments provided. another location to store the crevice tool would be wonderful......was afraid it would be in several pieces by the time I managed to free it from the hose. I also have another crevice tool (without all the suction control vents), that is longer & far better but again, alas, it doesn't fit the oversized hose diameter. the pet power brush was awesome for carpeted stairs, and did a super job getting dog hair off car seat, but again, it's cumbersome also. the canister does follow well, and appreciated how quiet it is. the handle is also big & clunky

I needed a good vacuum to clean my stairs and going from carpet to tile/wood all with one machine. Before I had to use 3 different cleaners to do the jobs. Saves so much time. Power is great, built in attachment on the handle is perfect to do the stairs and get the dog hair. The machine balances nicely on the stairs. 2nd favorite thing is I went back to bags....no more dusty bagless dumping!
