Kenmore Progressive Canister Vacuum - Superior Cleaning
Cleaning floors and furniture is now a simple process with the Kenmore Progressive canister vacuum. A 2-motor system, retractable cord storage, Stair Grip and variable speed settings make carpet and bare floor cleaning a cinch. This vacuum's true HEPA filter keeps pet dander and dust out of the air so you can breathe easy. From the 6-foot hose that swivels 360 degrees and reaches the highest surfaces to the horsehair dusting brush for fine wooden furniture and floors, this vacuum has the tools to get the job done.
- Designed to make cleaning-up after pets a cinch, the Pet PowerMate™ attachment lifts hair, dander and more from furniture, rugs and carpeting in seconds.
- Ideal for all types of cleaning, the variable speed control lets you adjust the vacuuming speed based on the amount of dust and dirt you're picking up.
- The exclusive Stair Grip™ feature keeps the canister body upright and securely in place while the stairs get cleaned, for solid performance and increased safety.
- A 6-foot hose reaches from floor to ceiling, around corners and far beyond, so no matter where you need to clean, dirt cannot escape.
- Quick to connect and featuring an array of attachments, the CrossOver Handle rapidly transitions the vacuum from carpet to flooring, crevice cleaning to pet hair pick-up.
- The True HEPA certified filter can be trusted to remove almost all significant allergens from air flowing through the vacuum, so you can breathe easy.

Okay, we all saw that one coming!
We have had this vacuum for about a month now and our floors haven't been this clean for some time that's for sure! My wife says it must be a great vacuum since the kids all seem to fight for it and are always vacuuming their rooms! I suppose I should say thank you, Kenmore, for that !
Now, on to the review.
I like the power of this thing. It is a 12 amp motor spinning the impeller and it creates more suction than I have seen in a vacuum cleaner in some time.
I can go from carpet to wood floors simply by turning off the brushes in the head.
It sits on the stairs allowing us to clean the carpet on the stairs (nice).
The Pet PowerMate and Pet Upholstery Tool actually work! This is a big plus as we have a cat and a dog and they like the furniture!
Of all the features, my kids love the cord retraction system the most!
It seems to take more effort than it should to get it to turn a corner. The handle turns a lot before the head actually turns in the direction you want it to go so it isn't as effortless as it could be. For me it is a design flaw that is easily forgotten when you look at all the positive aspects.
Most vacuum cleaners will allow you to lift the power head for whatever reason you may choose and this unit does not allow for that. When the head is unlocked you can lay the handle on the floor and the head remains flat. If you never have to lift the head you're golden, if you do (like the wife needed to today) then you're out of luck.
I think, for the most part, Sears/Kenmore got this one right. Aside from a couple of nit-picky complaints I liek the way the unit functions and my favorite feature is the "Exclusive Stair Grip" which is really just a piece of foam set at an angle but at least it shows someone who uses a vacuum was involved in the design of this thing! It works and that is what's most important.
Not happy with this vacuum...I have purchased 5 Kennmore Progressive canister vacs in the last 15 years. They were the BEST vacuum anyone could own. The older model, couldnt be "killed. The first one I purchased is still working! it is 15 years old...my son stole it from me about 7 years ago...I bought another and two years later my other son took that one...still working...this has happened 3 times. I purchased this one with great apprehension due to the obvious changes they made. The wand is shorter, the wand is also wider, and the (couplings??) where the attachments go on are so big that they dont fit anywhere the old one did. (under dressers, behind furniture) The "easy release" foot thing is so big that it catches on the bottom of the bed and disconnects the power-mate. It wont get into corners the handle is not comfortable to hold...I could go on endlessly! I dont think the person who designed this vacuum ever used one. It LOOKS all pretty and "steamlined," but it is not functional. Perhaps if someone never experienced the previous model they will like it , but this vacuum was not made better. Lots of plastic...including the button that releases the attachments....(used to be metal) that little clip broke today...Ive had the unit for 3 months....will not be purchasing another! Sears, you should have stuck with the Tried and True!
I've had my Kenmore powermate since 1995. The power head finally died. Just got this new one and can't believe how bulky and clumsy it feels. The wand is heavier and so much wider, do they think we are going to suck up whole eggs through there? I wish they didn't change designs! Other than that, it seems to pick up fine.
This vaccuum is easy to use and seems to pick up the dirt and dust on the carpets and floors. I have not used it for furniture yet. The various attachments are in different places on the vaccuum (as opposed to my last Sear's canister which had all of them in one compartment).
This seems like a higher quality vacuum than previous canister vacs i have owned. Great suction and I like that it is adjustable on the wand. Also love that all the attachments have a home somewhere on the vacuum.
I have purchased Progressives for years. It always does a terrific job in getting all the dirt up. Quiet and powerful. The only issue is that the dusting attachment is a bit too big for corner areas. Still, this is a great vac.

This is the most well engineered vacuum I have seen. The attachments are on board, uber easily accessible. The brush attachment is utilized by disengaging the floor brush-already in place. The crevass tool easily acceptable to clamp into place. Everything is on board already in place or in canister itself. Sturdy heavy duty hose. Great suction, and easily adaptable for bare floors or carpet. The pet hair attachment is suoerior-only thing I have found that really works. Lightweight. Easy to move. For the price, it is a superior choice. All tools work really well and suction is great. Couldn't be happier with a purchase.

The hose is 12 inches shorter on the white progressive vacuum compared to an earlier navy blue Kenmore power mate canister vacuum that I have had for about 12 years. It makes the vacuum heavier to drag around and gets hooked up on my furniture. Also they added a clunky plastic end to the metal wand, now none of my previous attachments work. The brush that comes with the vacuum has a crew cut and is not the 2inch long hairy bristols that works. And that nonremovable plastic wide clunky end does not let the vacuum fit between narrow spaces like between my fridge and cabinets. And if they didn't think I noticed, again that clunky end and wider wand release foot control gets in the way if your vacuuming under a dresser, so the vacuum will not go under as far and flat as my previous model. I trusted and loved my previous Kenmore so much, that I just asked the clerk to give me the best Kenmore canister at Sears, thinking that they would only improve it, not take away its positive featurs. Boy was I disappointed, I purchased on the Kenmore reputation.....mistake. Kenmore if your reading this... a longer hose gives that lite weight central vac experience. The old model had great suction, you didn't need to shorten the cord to gain more suction. My old model sucked 4 cats and one dog's worth of hair just fine on all surfaces.
