Kenmore — trusted in the homes of more than 100 million Americans.
The Kenmore Progressive 21514 canister vacuum offers powerful cleaning on carpets and bare floors. The tools are on-board, making it easier to swap tools to match the kind of cleaning you're doing. The powerful 2-Motor system includes a motor inside the canister body dedicated to suction and a second smaller motor to power the agitator brush. The hose swivels 360 degrees for superior maneuverability, and the retractable cord storage makes reeling in the cord a cinch.
The Kenmore 21514 canister vacuum cleaner includes the motorized Pet PowerMate for a more powerful tool for removing pet hair from floors and furniture. The unique design of the Stair Grip keeps the vacuum upright for worry-free stair cleaning.
Because this Kenmore vacuum traps dirt in a bag, disposing of dirt when the bag is full is mess-free. And an electronic indicator lets you know when the bag is full or the wand or hose is clogged. This Kenmore vacuum also includes variable speed controls that let you adjust the vacuuming speed based on the amount of dust and dirt you're picking up, and the swiveling bare floor tool helps the cleaning head hug corners and slip into tight spaces.
- The Kenmore progressive canister vacuum's CrossOver handle stores a dusting brush and crevice tool at your fingertips
- Motorized Pet PowerMate pet hair tool has a dedicated motor that picks up even the most stubborn pet hair from furniture, stairs and other surfaces
- Electronic performance indicator lets you know when a clog or full bag is reducing suction
- Variable speed control adjusts for all types of cleaning
- Upper and lower quick releases let you conveniently attach on-board tools
- Stair Grip keeps the canister upright for worry-free stair cleaning
- Attachments include a crevice tool, combination upholstery tool and dust brush made of horse hair, horeshair bare floor tool, motorized Pet PowerMate and pet hair catcher
- 6-foot hose lets you reach surfaces above the floor

Okay, we all saw that one coming!
We have had this vacuum for about a month now and our floors haven't been this clean for some time that's for sure! My wife says it must be a great vacuum since the kids all seem to fight for it and are always vacuuming their rooms! I suppose I should say thank you, Kenmore, for that !
Now, on to the review.
I like the power of this thing. It is a 12 amp motor spinning the impeller and it creates more suction than I have seen in a vacuum cleaner in some time.
I can go from carpet to wood floors simply by turning off the brushes in the head.
It sits on the stairs allowing us to clean the carpet on the stairs (nice).
The Pet PowerMate and Pet Upholstery Tool actually work! This is a big plus as we have a cat and a dog and they like the furniture!
Of all the features, my kids love the cord retraction system the most!
It seems to take more effort than it should to get it to turn a corner. The handle turns a lot before the head actually turns in the direction you want it to go so it isn't as effortless as it could be. For me it is a design flaw that is easily forgotten when you look at all the positive aspects.
Most vacuum cleaners will allow you to lift the power head for whatever reason you may choose and this unit does not allow for that. When the head is unlocked you can lay the handle on the floor and the head remains flat. If you never have to lift the head you're golden, if you do (like the wife needed to today) then you're out of luck.
I think, for the most part, Sears/Kenmore got this one right. Aside from a couple of nit-picky complaints I liek the way the unit functions and my favorite feature is the "Exclusive Stair Grip" which is really just a piece of foam set at an angle but at least it shows someone who uses a vacuum was involved in the design of this thing! It works and that is what's most important.
Not happy with this vacuum...I have purchased 5 Kennmore Progressive canister vacs in the last 15 years. They were the BEST vacuum anyone could own. The older model, couldnt be "killed. The first one I purchased is still working! it is 15 years old...my son stole it from me about 7 years ago...I bought another and two years later my other son took that one...still working...this has happened 3 times. I purchased this one with great apprehension due to the obvious changes they made. The wand is shorter, the wand is also wider, and the (couplings??) where the attachments go on are so big that they dont fit anywhere the old one did. (under dressers, behind furniture) The "easy release" foot thing is so big that it catches on the bottom of the bed and disconnects the power-mate. It wont get into corners the handle is not comfortable to hold...I could go on endlessly! I dont think the person who designed this vacuum ever used one. It LOOKS all pretty and "steamlined," but it is not functional. Perhaps if someone never experienced the previous model they will like it , but this vacuum was not made better. Lots of plastic...including the button that releases the attachments....(used to be metal) that little clip broke today...Ive had the unit for 3 months....will not be purchasing another! Sears, you should have stuck with the Tried and True!
I just used this vacuum for the first time today (received it two days earlier from Sears Delivery!), and it did not disappoint. Needed to replace my previous Kenmore after 8 years so I basically just upgraded the model. It sucked up an unbelievable amount of pet hair. Very easy instructions to assemble.
The soft brush for this model leaves a lot to be desired. I have owned several kenmore canister vacuums and have loved them all. This one however, is poorly designed. The coverage for the soft brush just is not good.

To supplement an older Kenmore progressive vacuum. Same features as old one except non-adjustable tube. Works great, just like old one. Sales rep adjusted price by $35 when a sale price was advertised a few days later.
I want to rate this higher but the nozzle requires special attachments and I bought a kenmore to have interchangeable parts and I am unhappy it does not work that way. It has a unique attachment need. Weird opening. I can't share my other kenmore attachments with this one.
I first bought a shark from another store. I thought the upright would be easier to use, but it was bulky, awkward and did not pick up like I wanted it to. I've owned a Kenmore canister vacuum before so I decided to give it another try. So glad I did! This is a great machine!
I am very disappointed with this new Kenmore. I don't know who came up with having the head on the power unit for the carpet is but compared the way they used to be this does a very poor job. Make it not tip up and down. And the floor brush also pivots up and down making it hard to control. I have used Kenmores for almost 50 years and this is the conly time I have not been happy.
