Kenmore Progressive Canister Vacuum - Superior Cleaning

Cleaning floors and furniture is now a simple process with the Kenmore Progressive canister vacuum. A 2-motor system, retractable cord storage, Stair Grip and variable speed settings make carpet and bare floor cleaning a cinch. This vacuum's true HEPA filter keeps pet dander and dust out of the air so you can breathe easy. From the 8-foot hose that swivels 360 degrees and reaches the highest surfaces to the horsehair dusting brush for fine wooden furniture and floors, this vacuum has the tools to get the job done.

  • The Infrared Dirt Sensor activates a red LED that tells you  where to focus cleaning power, then shines green once it's all clean.
  • Designed to make cleaning-up after pets a cinch, the Pet PowerMate™ attachment lifts hair, dander and more from furniture, rugs and carpeting in seconds.
  • Superbly maneuverable, the Swivel+ Steering System™ lets you easily glide around corners and into difficult places for an easy, fast and thorough clean.
  • The exclusive Stair Grip™ feature keeps the canister body upright and securely in place while the stairs get cleaned, for solid performance and increased safety.
  • Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America approval means this vacuum effectively removes allergens from carpets while limiting the release of dust and dander into the air.
  • 6-in-1 Handle Technology serves-up a power nozzle and floor brush, a large Pet PowerMate™, a smaller pet upholstery tool, a horsehair dust brush and a crevice tool for tight spots.

Love it
I don't know why anyone would not like this vacuum. It is easy to use to clean the entire house. I love the swivel head, the longer hose, the retractable cord and the onboard attachments. The power is great which is completely and easily controlled. You can switch from carpet to solid flooring with the slide of a switch on the handle. Easy to dust with the built in attachment but if it gets in your way you can easily remove it. It is probably the most versatile vacuum I have ever owned. I have had it now for about 3-4 weeks. I vacuum often and I can't think of anything I don't like about it. I owned a Kenmore canister years ago and when the power head stopped working after several years I changed to the Hoover Wind Tunnel upright. I am happy to be back to a canister. Don't get me wrong if all you want is to take out an upright and do a quick vacuum of your rug an upright is fine. If you really want convenience to clean your entire house...I have a basement too...then I just don't think you can go wrong with this. I did buy the extended warranty which I never do just because of some of the reviews. I originally bought the lower priced version, which came in purple, but the next day exchanged it for this one (my husband talked me into it because he knows how picky I am about vacuuming). He was right. I seriously tell him after every time I use it..."thank you honey, I love this vacuum".

Shame on Your Sears
I purchased this too replace a hand me down 1980 Sears Powermate Canister Vacuum Cleaner from my mom. Thank goodness I didn't discard the 1980 Sears Powermate Vacuum...It's still going strong after 34 years but thought I would "upgrade" NOT...HORRIBLE Machine this 116.21714 is. Where is the Sears quality that was in the 60's, 70's, 80's, even 90's? This vacuum quit working after 2 months, yes 2 months! No pets either, just a once or twice a week vacuuming in a 2500 sf home. Mix of hardwood and carpeting, stairs too. The wand won't power the powermate any longer, the rear wheel on the canister keeps falling off, the wand light burned out, canister part of the vacuum gets really hot as well. The attachments are really a joke. I have a 4-piece attachment set with my 1980 canister and love them. These attachments are useless. The mini powermate is the only value add to this machine, it does do the stairs really well. Will it quit working though? Don't know. So, I have a $400.00 vacuum that can only be used to vacuum stairs as the other attachments are useless and the Powermate no longer "powers" up. I can't even use my older powermate on this one because the connections are totally different. I should have gone with the $149 model as I see better reviews for that one. Stay away until they bring back the original canister design and beef up the quality again. I'll stick with my 1980 powermate canister model for now, it's lasted 34 years so hopefully it will continue on another 34 years... Get it together Sears!

LOVE this vacuum!

I listened to Consumer Reports and couldn't be happier with our purchase This vacuum cleans much better than our "commercial" upright ever did. I cannot believe the volume of dog hair it has sucked out of carpets that looked clean. I also love not having to lift couches to clean underneath them. So light, too! The light that turns from red to green almost makes vacuuming a game!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Lives up to its reviews

This is a great vacuum. I especially appreciate the "pet fur" function, and the fact that you can adjust the suction. It's a bit heavy, but that means it does the job!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

A piece of garbage

Do not buy this piece of garbage. I have to fight with it to remove the beater brush so I can put the floor attachment on. The lever that is supposed to adjust the height from low to high doesn't work at all. I try to set it on high and it keeps reverting back to medium. We bought the service contract so it will go back for repair but while it's in the shop I have no vacuum cleaner.

Powerhead keeps failing.

At first I loved this machine. I loved the maneuverability of the head and the ease of the attachments. I actually did recommend it to a friend. However, over the past two - three years, the power head has failed twice. The first time Sears had to fix it twice to get it right. (I purchased the maintenance plan.) I have yet to bring it in for the second repair. This seems like excessive failure to me since I don't vacuum very often, as I have a cleaning company. I may use it once a month if the kids or dogs make an extra mess. Considering how infrequently I use it, the amount of times it's broken is too many. I would no longer recommend this product and when my maintenance agreement is up I will purchase a more reliable product.

Don't buy it. Just don't.

Was working really well, but like everyone else, the wand died. Sears says the part is on backorder. No surprise there. It's been three weeks without my vacuum. I think I am just going to go and buy a new panasonic from ******. Stay away from this vacuum cleaner.

broken 3 times

This is now about 15 years with Sears vacuums and maybe the last. It's a good vacuum when it works. Unfortunately it is a very poor quality product. In just over one year I have now had the same problem (3) times. The wand switch turns on the vacuum but no power is delivered to the lights or powerheads. That means there is no way for us to clean the dog fur from our carpets. The wand assembly needs to be replaced again. I asked them about a product exchange last time but they said two repairs for the same problem in a year is not enough. I wonder if (3) will do it. I'm giving them a chance to handle it properly this time. I'll update the review shortly.
