Kenmore Progressive Canister Vacuum - Superior Cleaning
Cleaning floors and furniture is now a simple process with the Kenmore Progressive canister vacuum. A 2-motor system, retractable cord storage, Stair Grip and variable speed settings make carpet and bare floor cleaning a cinch. This vacuum's true HEPA filter keeps pet dander and dust out of the air so you can breathe easy. From the 8-foot hose that swivels 360 degrees and reaches the highest surfaces to the horsehair dusting brush for fine wooden furniture and floors, this vacuum has the tools to get the job done.
- The Infrared Dirt Sensor activates a red LED that tells you where to focus cleaning power, then shines green once it's all clean.
- Designed to make cleaning-up after pets a cinch, the Pet PowerMate™ attachment lifts hair, dander and more from furniture, rugs and carpeting in seconds.
- Superbly maneuverable, the Swivel+ Steering System™ lets you easily glide around corners and into difficult places for an easy, fast and thorough clean.
- The exclusive Stair Grip™ feature keeps the canister body upright and securely in place while the stairs get cleaned, for solid performance and increased safety.
- Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America approval means this vacuum effectively removes allergens from carpets while limiting the release of dust and dander into the air.
- 6-in-1 Handle Technology serves-up a power nozzle and floor brush, a large Pet PowerMate™, a smaller pet upholstery tool, a horsehair dust brush and a crevice tool for tight spots.

I purchased this vacuum to replace an older version, which I really liked but had damaged after about 5-6 years by running over the cord of a blind (and also breaking the blind). Was loath to give up the old vac, but this one has stronger suction, in addition to the better tools. I have already had to change the bag after just a few weeks, and that impressed me. Would rather throw all that pet hair and bird feathers and lint out in the trash than have it still in my carpets and rugs. Overall, I have had good experiences with Sears. Even in this case, I first ordered the wrong machine online and they took it back for exchange with no argument, even though I had taken it out of the box and tried it out. Very happy with the purchase. The pet power mate tool is great. I use the paper, not the cloth, bags.
Within 6 months of purchase the light on the extension wand failed, two months later the power head no longer works. Over half the reviews on sears.com say the same thing. I think this thing is a piece of garbage and a waste of money. Strongly urge you NOT TO BUY!
I bought this as a replacement to the 12 year old Progressive canister which had started to randomly turn off during use. Looked at Consumer Reports review of this model and decided to purchase. What a mistake. The light on the extension wand stopped working about six months after purchase, the power head stopped working after the warranty expired (about one year) and then finally the whole **** thing stopped working at all. What a POS! Do not buy this lemon! Read the reviews here - more than half the reviews are one star.
We have had this vacuum for a month and it is just as described. It is powerful, easy to maneuver, not too heavy, and well designed. The suction is excellent, and gets dog hair off pillows and dog beds easily and completely. It is easy to operate and cleans well. The newly designed brush tool is excellent. We are thrilled with our purchase. We would definitely buy this vacuum again and we would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a new vacuum. We bought it to replace our old Kenmore progressive canister vacuum, which we used for about ten years and it too was a good vacuum. We had the soil detector light on that vacuum, and it's on this one too. That is a plus that makes vacuuming so much easier.
I have had this model for less than 3 years and in that time, 2 extension wands have failed. There are replacement parts that can be ordered but the wand can't/wasn't meant to be disassembled for repair according to the "Sears Experts" and a local vacuum repair company. It has to be replaced at a cost of $107.31 + tax. Sears provides a "100% Satisfaction Guarantee" on their parts but won't say how long it lasts and there is no warranty provided from the manufacturer. So is it good for 30/60/90 days, 1 year? I couldn't get an answer other than it "depends on the usage". What good does that do for us, the consumer? A vacuum cleaner should last for many years and extending/retracting an extension wand should not render a unit inoperable due to a poorly designed built in wiring harness. The bare floor cleaning attachment does still work with the wand but the power head for carpets does not. I will say, for the most part, I am happy with the unit when it does work properly. The crevice tool is a little short and cleaning the tops of ceiling fans is difficult with the brush attachment due to the hose design. The lighted extension wand was a feature I liked about this unit, but unfortunately it's faulty design makes this a frustrating purchase. I paid too much to get rid of it but I can't keep replacing the extension wand either. As an alternative replacement, the wand from model #s 21514 or 21614 will work with this model. It won't extend or have a light on the end but the wiring is on the outside making it easier/less costly to repair if it ever fails. Sears Parts Direct "highly recommends only using model specific parts due to possible serious problems arising". When researching vacuums, the reviews for this model were good and it had the features I wanted, making it what I thought was a good investment. Since then, the reviews have become disappointing and the Q&A for repair problems have centered around the failing extension wand. If every owner of this model wrote a review, I'm certain the rating would be worse.
Power head stopped working after 1 1/2 yrs. Fixed at home since out of warranty. After seeing how built, would not buy again. Cleans well but not going to last. If you consider, definitely get the Protection Agreement

Liked the vacuum a lot, until it stopped working the 5th time we used it. The connections to the sweeper head won't work, it powers off and on and you can't use it. Poorly designed/constructed.

This is my 3rd Kenmore canister in 34 years! I was hesitant to buy another because of the mixed on-line reviews for this. Consumer Reports gave it an excellent rating so I bought it anyway. I can't believe the improvements in the new vacuum (so mine was only 18 years old!). It's lighter, has incredible suction and is well designed so the most used tools are on the handle. I had a little trouble at first with it shutting off, but it turned out I didn't have the hose securely clicked into the vac. I have bad asthma and 5 indoor pets, all hardwoods and used to cough while vacuuming. With the Don't believe the bad reviews.
