Kenmore Progressive Canister Vacuum - Superior Cleaning

Cleaning floors and furniture is now a simple process with the Kenmore Progressive canister vacuum. A 2-motor system, retractable cord storage, Stair Grip and variable speed settings make carpet and bare floor cleaning a cinch. This vacuum's true HEPA filter keeps pet dander and dust out of the air so you can breathe easy. From the 8-foot hose that swivels 360 degrees and reaches the highest surfaces to the horsehair dusting brush for fine wooden furniture and floors, this vacuum has the tools to get the job done.

  • The Infrared Dirt Sensor activates a red LED that tells you  where to focus cleaning power, then shines green once it's all clean.
  • Designed to make cleaning-up after pets a cinch, the Pet PowerMate™ attachment lifts hair, dander and more from furniture, rugs and carpeting in seconds.
  • Superbly maneuverable, the Swivel+ Steering System™ lets you easily glide around corners and into difficult places for an easy, fast and thorough clean.
  • The exclusive Stair Grip™ feature keeps the canister body upright and securely in place while the stairs get cleaned, for solid performance and increased safety.
  • Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America approval means this vacuum effectively removes allergens from carpets while limiting the release of dust and dander into the air.
  • 6-in-1 Handle Technology serves-up a power nozzle and floor brush, a large Pet PowerMate™, a smaller pet upholstery tool, a horsehair dust brush and a crevice tool for tight spots.

LOVE THIS VACUUM!
This is my 3rd Kenmore canister in 34 years! I was hesitant to buy another because of the mixed on-line reviews for this. Consumer Reports gave it an excellent rating so I bought it anyway. I can't believe the improvements in the new vacuum (so mine was only 18 years old!). It's lighter, has incredible suction and is well designed so the most used tools are on the handle. I had a little trouble at first with it shutting off, but it turned out I didn't have the hose securely clicked into the vac. I have bad asthma and 5 indoor pets, all hardwoods and used to cough while vacuuming. With the Don't believe the bad reviews.

Shame on Your Sears
I purchased this too replace a hand me down 1980 Sears Powermate Canister Vacuum Cleaner from my mom. Thank goodness I didn't discard the 1980 Sears Powermate Vacuum...It's still going strong after 34 years but thought I would "upgrade" NOT...HORRIBLE Machine this 116.21714 is. Where is the Sears quality that was in the 60's, 70's, 80's, even 90's? This vacuum quit working after 2 months, yes 2 months! No pets either, just a once or twice a week vacuuming in a 2500 sf home. Mix of hardwood and carpeting, stairs too. The wand won't power the powermate any longer, the rear wheel on the canister keeps falling off, the wand light burned out, canister part of the vacuum gets really hot as well. The attachments are really a joke. I have a 4-piece attachment set with my 1980 canister and love them. These attachments are useless. The mini powermate is the only value add to this machine, it does do the stairs really well. Will it quit working though? Don't know. So, I have a $400.00 vacuum that can only be used to vacuum stairs as the other attachments are useless and the Powermate no longer "powers" up. I can't even use my older powermate on this one because the connections are totally different. I should have gone with the $149 model as I see better reviews for that one. Stay away until they bring back the original canister design and beef up the quality again. I'll stick with my 1980 powermate canister model for now, it's lasted 34 years so hopefully it will continue on another 34 years... Get it together Sears!

Very Satisfied!!!

I have always shopped for Kenmore, but less than a year ago, I decided to go with the Dyson as there was so much talk about it. In less than eight months, the hose ripped while vacuuming stairs, the heads bristles came off twice and stair tool sucked up bristles as well. That said, I couldn't take it and went back to Kenmore Progressive, which I had a previous model that I had for many years and was happy with it. Let me say, it was immediate relief to have a REAL vacuum that sucks up and the quality compared to the Dyson was just unbelievably better. I love the newer feature with the dirt sensor and was a bit skeptical, but let me say, to my surprise, it truly detects the dirt. I can no vacuum and be assured that it was done correct and the amount of times of vacuuming a week has cut way back to once every two days from twice a day. You will not be disappointed!

Disregarded negative reviews - paying for it now

This is the second Kenmore Progressive canister vacuum I have had in 12 years. The first one did a great job vacuuming and was only relied upon as a backup to my central vacuum. The second one did a great job vacuuming, but after 8 months of once or twice a week use, the wand has had to be replaced. It has taken over two weeks now and I have had to go out and buy another vacuum in the meantime. The wand needs to be redesigned because an electrical short in the wand was the problem causing the failure of the first vacuum

Powerful!

I love this vacuum. It leaves carpet/rugs extra clean and the dust sensor tells you when an area is already clean. I have a dog and the vacuum picks up the hair without much effort.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Great vacuum

This is the first hepa filter vacuum that I have owned. It seems to suck up a lot of dirt without releasing any dust or bad odors from the bag. I am very happy that all the attachments are on board. They are there when you need them.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Junk, broke after 1.5 yrs DO NOT BUY

I expected this vacuum to last for many years, especially since it was highly rated. Well mine broke after 1.5 years of light use. The extension wand is defective. Kenmore should be ashamed of producing such a unreliable product.

Overall
The most expensive and worst vacuum I've purchased in 40 years!

Do NOT buy this vacuum. It is expensive and breaks down frequently. Parts are expensive. I have had it for less than a year. Within the first 6 months, the connection (cheap plastic) to the rug attachment broke. Solution? Nearly $200 for a new rug attachment. Very poor design. Should have been able to purchase only a new connection. This week, still only a year of use (only weekly, gentle use) and the electronic in the hose stopped working. Solution? I had to purchase the ENTIRE hose, for $125. If the vacuum wasn't so new, I wouldn't have bought this second part. But I'm still thinking, what else can go wrong? The machine works well when it works, but it's poorly designed and poorly made. I've been buying Sears vacuums for 40 years and they've normally lasted 10 years or so, with wheels falling off, or failing to turn off but I've never had a worse - or more expensive machine. This machine has now cost me nearly $700! what a piece of junk! I'll never buy another Sears vacuum again. Why did they once make a decent machine, and now only junk??

LOVE this vacuum!

I listened to Consumer Reports and couldn't be happier with our purchase This vacuum cleans much better than our "commercial" upright ever did. I cannot believe the volume of dog hair it has sucked out of carpets that looked clean. I also love not having to lift couches to clean underneath them. So light, too! The light that turns from red to green almost makes vacuuming a game!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Lives up to its reviews

This is a great vacuum. I especially appreciate the "pet fur" function, and the fact that you can adjust the suction. It's a bit heavy, but that means it does the job!

I would recommend this product to a friend.
