Product Description

Kenmore is America's # 1 appliance brand, trusted in the homes of more than 100 million Americans.

Canister Vacuum Helps You Detect Dirt

The Kenmore Progressive 21714 red canister vacuum has upgrade features that help you track down hidden dirt. An infrared dirt sensor detects embedded dirt, and an LED light on the wand shines into dark spaces to reveal hard-to-see dust, as well as small objects you don't want to vacuum up.

This powerful Kenmore vacuum cleaner can clean all types of flooring, including wood, tile, vinyl and carpet. The variable speed control lets you adjust the vacuuming speed based on the amount of dust and dirt you’re picking up. The swivel nozzle and the swiveling floor tool makes cleaning tight spaces and navigating corners more convenient  The Stair Grip keeps the canister securely in place when you're cleaning stairs, so you don't have to hold it or worry about it slipping.

With the attachments that come with this canister vac, you can clean furniture, drapes, stairs and other above-floor surfaces. The motorized Pet PowerMate and the pet hair catcher tool are especially useful for removing pet hair from floors and furniture. The telescoping wand and the 8-foot hose help you reach high surfaces.

The red Kenmore Progressive vacuum has HEPA filtration to trap dander, pollen, dust and other allergens, so the exhaust air is cleaner. And because dirt is trapped in a bag, disposing of dirt when the bag is full is mess-free.

  • The Kenmore progressive canister vacuum's 6-in-1 handle is easy to use and attaches to the power nozzle/wand, floor brush, Pet PowerMate, and other tools for multiple cleaning options
  • Motorized Pet PowerMate pet hair tool has a dedicated motor that picks up the most stubborn pet hair from furniture, stairs and other surfaces
  • True HEPA cloth dust bag removes and contains 99.97% of particles up to 0.3 microns size
  • Infrared dirt sensor helps you locate and remove embedded dirt
  • Electronic performance indicator notifies you when the bag is full or there might be a clog in the air hose
  • Swivel+ Steering System™ lets you easily glide around corners and furniture for an easy clean
  • The light on the wand illuminates dark areas to help you see what needs cleaning and to avoid items that you don’t want to vacuum up
  • Telescoping wand and 8-foot hose let you reach ceiling fans, corners and other high places
  • Stair Grip keeps the vacuum upright on stairs
  • Certified Asthma and Allergy Friendly™ by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America

Progressive Canister vacuum cleaner Rated #1
This canister vacuum is light, yet powerful. It has all the tools necessary to clean. The power carpet cleaner and power pet brush are exceptional in their ability to pick up dirt, dust and hair.

Kenmore Progressive TrueHepa Vacuum Cleaner
This is the worst Kenmore vacuum I have ever owned. I love Kenmore products, and have have/had many of their appliances through out my long life. I have had four vacuums through out this time, and needed a new one. The carpet attachment works great along with the motorized furniture vac. The floor, crevice and furniture/pet attachment, are very difficult to use. The end of the nozzle is so big and so close to the attachment that it makes it hard to get under things, and can get stuck. The crevice tool is to short and to small, and the design is so bad that it has no sucction. The whole design of this vacuum is so bad compared to previous vacuums. I would not recommend this vac to anyone. BUT, the electric connection on the metal hose has quit.

Problems with this vacuum

The vacuum is extremely heavy to move when connected to canister. Attachments only connect to top of handle so you are unable to use the extension pipe, giving you a very short piece to manipulate. Awkward. Noisy! Wish I had not thrown out the box so I can not return it without losing a third of my investment. Would never purchase this product online again.

Don't Buy!

We purchased this vacuum (the red model) and had it re-packed ready to return to Sears within ten minutes. There are several problems with it. 1) the extra long hose is awkward to drag along - it's too heavy and too far from the vacuum to control; 2) the device (not the beater bar) at the end of the hose is too high to fit under furniture; the device at the end of the hose does not work on rugs - it just bounces along as you try to vacuum (note that some rugs discourage the use of a beater bar). In short, there are several features of this machine that are not functional. We returned it and purchased the orange model for much less money and are generally pretty statisfied with that vacuum. One good point to note: Sears allowed us to return the vacuum without any questions.

New is not always better

Where do I start? Hate everything about this sweeper. Couldn't keep the sweeper head attached to the wand so took it back to the store for exchange. Replacement broke at latch when replacing bag. Suction dial is always on low because of placement on handle and found myself taping it. Also not happy with the attachments. Two hands needed to attach wand to sweeper head. My old one was a lot simpler and I liked it 100 percent better. Progress not for the better on this item!

injuries canister vaccum

I bought this canister and am very dissappointed. I have had the recoil cord hit me in the head and bleed like a head wound would. Be careful of this, it rewinds so fast the end will fly all over the place. The hose attached to the canister has to be held or the canister will bump everything in its way. I have a black and blue toe with the nail bed cracked due to canister hitting my toe. The front wheel is unpredictable, be careful in guiding the canister as it will bang the walls, furniture etc... Takes up too much space when not in use, has to be carried to where vaccumed is going to be used very cumbersome. All the filters become expensive when to get the suction of vaccume the to work well. Last and not least, there is a wire whitin the handle that wiggles loose and has to be reconnected or no electricity. I had to pay for service repair for this malfuction twice before a friend told me how to fix it on my own. SO GOOD LUCK!

Back breaking machine

Back breaking machine; bad features, hard to use. 1) Wand flops up and down -- I think the plastic piece that attaches to the wand is broken. 2) Wand is easy to remove but very difficult to snap back in -- bending down trying to get the floppy piece upright, curse until it snaps back in. 3) Wand too bulky to vacuum corners -- have to unlock wand, snap on crevice tool which does not pick up dead leaves without clogging entrance; crevice tool hard to snap back in its resting place without several tries. The basic model has been much better for me in the past -- better ease of use. This one is too expensive and difficult to use. Light on floor/carpet indicator is out already -- don't think the function even works. Swivel function is awkward. Dread vacuuming; my back aches. The designer must have been certifiably mad.

Good performance, not keen on new tools

Have owned Kenmore canister vacs for nearly 30 years. Got this new about 6 months ago. This is a good machine and performs very well -- improvements on suction setting are nice. I DO NOT like the new brush attachment which I used to love to use to "dust" (picks up dust this way than with a cloth). The opening for the new tool is too big, the bristles are too short (they don't get into crevices), and the tool itself it too big (clumsy to use). The other attachments work just fine.

so Disappointed

This is my 3rd version of this vacuum...my last one was purchased in 2002...I needed to replace it this past winter because after many years of good service many of the plastic parts had broken and it was going to cost quite a bit to repair so I used some money my Mom had given me for Xmas to purchase this replacement after being overall happy with my old one and reading reviews in Consumer Reports which listed it towards top of listI can't express how much I HATE this vac..the only reason I am keeping it is I live about an hour from the Sears store and I figure if its one of the top rated the other ones are probably worse. the quality of this has gone downhill so much from my older model...cheap plastic parts...attachments are impossibly hard to change..place to store attachments inconvenient and hard to use....floor brush has some odd swivel to it and moves in a strange way....tube that the floor attachment attaches to is so big can't get under sofas...I dread vacuuming w this vac

Broke right after warranty expired

This vacuum comes with a 1-year warranty. One year and two months after buying it, a small part broke (the pedal that raises or lowers the brush for vacuuming carpets of different depths). One month later, all power stopped flowing to the end of the vacuum wand, meaning that the brush head and light stopped functioning entirely. It now only works to vacuum tile or wood floors, not carpet, though it has seen only light use (vacuuming one small apartment). Had it not broken so soon, I might have rated it highly, as on the whole it previously functioned well. It seems to have good suction, and it also has useful attachments, especially the PetMate attachment for upholstery. I did have some quibbles (it can be hard to get it to stand up without falling over; the latch that controls the length of the wand only works in one direction, leading it to extend annoyingly at times), but on the whole I was happy. Until it broke. If you buy this, be sure to buy the extended protection plan.

Cannister

Nice swivel power nozzle makes reaching tight places easier. Fairly light weight. Long hose makes getting around small places a bit challenging.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
