Kenmore — trusted in the homes of more than 100 million Americans.
The Kenmore 21714 canister vacuumoffers powerful cleaning on carpets and bare floors. The tools are on-board, making it easier to swap tools to match the kind of cleaning you're doing. The Powerful 2-Motor system includes a motor inside the canister body dedicated to suction and a second smaller motor to power the agitator brush. The hose swivels 360 degrees for superior maneuverability, the 8 ft hose and telescoping wand lets you reach high surfaces, and the retractable cord storage make reeling in the cord a cinch.
The Kenmore Progressive canister vacuum cleaner includes the motorized Pet PowerMate for a more powerful tool for removing pet hair from floors and furniture. The unique design of the Stair Grip keeps the vacuum upright for worry-free stair cleaning. Because this Kenmore vacuum traps dirt in a bag, disposing of dirt when the bag is full is mess-free. And an electronic indicator lets you know when the bag is full or the wand or hose is clogged. This Kenmore vacuum also includes variable speed controls that let you adjust the vacuuming speed based on the amount of dust and dirt you're picking up, and the nozzle swivels for more maneuverability.
The Kenmore 21714 is AAFA certified with true HEPA filtration that provides cleaner air while vacuuming the floor. For even more powerful cleaning, the Kenmore 21714 comes with an infrared dirt sensor that detects embedded dirt, and an LED light on the wand shines into dark spaces to reveal hard-to-see dust and small objects.

I had been very happy with this vacuum, until right around the two year mark the wire in the extension wand shorted out so that power no longer went to the brush head. A replacement wand costs $107. Not happy since this was supposedly a well recommended product.

Best on the market if manual read and understood prior to use. I have owned canister hoover 1990s great product, upright Eureka's good, a new Upright Kenmore 2004 model(big Yellow) great suction and pet brush works if cleaned and used properly air propelled/ down fall is too much suction for my large area rug and matching scatter rugs. Sucked up the carpeting and the Kirby setting was unable to adjust height for good cleaning either though the Kirby with all the attachments meet other cleaning expectations and suction is great. This new canister model is stable and does not fall over like the Kenmore upright though upright is durable on all surfaces. Kenmore canister does have the adjustment setting that works on high as the lower suctions make the cord warm up and the motor run too hot. Excellent job at carpet and hardwood floor cleaning though my Kirby is superior for hard floor and dusting attachments with extension. The Kenmore canister wand extends for ease of use though power head does not go under my couch or chairs which is alright as my carpets do not either. This has a floor attachment for those hard to clean areas and a pet cleaner and power pet cleaner for furniture and upholster cleaner with a brush and drapery cleaner. Overall the best new vacuum offered today on the market. Cord is automatic wind which works well if used properly as my hoover had this and they eventually all go. The rubber wheels on this canister vacuum is fragile in their lining component so not ideal for rough surfaces. The suction is so good I can see how if not properly used may wear out the motor per other reviews. The Kenmore canister has a sensor for good cleaning contact as does my upright. Not high enough front setting for a shag rug but good for plush medium rugs. Compared to the 1990s the models do appear more fragile though are lightweight comparatively and easier to use as this models head and attachment canister swivels and the hose is decent quality. Attachments easy on/off connections just not good to abuse. I would not let a childlike adult or teenager use. Too many ways to disconnect power wand. All connections connect solidly on the wand. Worth the price paid overall as I have a pet that sheds fine hair daily and my rugs were becoming atrocious and are now beautifully renewed. Manufacturer needs to work on the wheels as rough texture stone/ceramic would eat up the wheels. My opinion barrowed from sears sells man, Mercedes of Kenmore model and quality of materials is not superior to the 1990s but overall lightweight with newly engineered ease of use attachments.

This is my second Kenmore. The first was so amazing and lasted to long, that when it finally died, I bought another. The suction is great, but the accessories are so awkward to attach, including the hard floor attachment, that it is stressful to use it. It's a couple of years old. I kept it, hoping I would get used to it, but absolutely hate it.

I don't know why anyone would not like this vacuum. It is easy to use to clean the entire house. I love the swivel head, the longer hose, the retractable cord and the onboard attachments. The power is great which is completely and easily controlled. You can switch from carpet to solid flooring with the slide of a switch on the handle. Easy to dust with the built in attachment but if it gets in your way you can easily remove it. It is probably the most versatile vacuum I have ever owned. I have had it now for about 3-4 weeks. I vacuum often and I can't think of anything I don't like about it. I owned a Kenmore canister years ago and when the power head stopped working after several years I changed to the Hoover Wind Tunnel upright. I am happy to be back to a canister. Don't get me wrong if all you want is to take out an upright and do a quick vacuum of your rug an upright is fine. If you really want convenience to clean your entire house...I have a basement too...then I just don't think you can go wrong with this. I did buy the extended warranty which I never do just because of some of the reviews. I originally bought the lower priced version, which came in purple, but the next day exchanged it for this one (my husband talked me into it because he knows how picky I am about vacuuming). He was right. I seriously tell him after every time I use it..."thank you honey, I love this vacuum".
After purchasing this vacuum, the height adjustment broke within one month. The attachment brush is worthless; you cannot even vacuum a windowsill because it is too big for most any job. The handle is very large and hard to manage. It does not fit between the wall and fridge because the junky plastic is too big, The hose is so long, I trip over it constantly. The belt must be loose after several months because the power cleaner is extremely noisy. I have purchased at least 10 Sears vacuums over the years and this is the worst vacuum I have ever used in my life from this store. I would not recommend anyone to purchase this worthless vacuum. Oh, I did purchase the extended warranty but then you have to take the heavy vacuum to the store to be sent off site for repair and this process is extremely time consuming and inconvenient.. A consumer would think if you purchased a fairly expensive vacuum, there would not be so many problems. Obviously, the folks who created these changes to the Sears vacuum do not use this particular model.
We have had 2 of these vacuums and all have the same problem .. power head/wand stop working within a year of purchase. We have left our vacuum to be serviced for that issue and they either return it unrepaired .. or lose it. This last time, they lost our vacuum cleaner somewhere between where we left it at the Peoria, IL Sears Store and where it was supposed to be repaired. So .. lucky us .. they're replacing our vacuum. I wonder how long it will be until this one either breaks or is lost. I would not recommend the product or their servicing it.
Have had this vacuum for 2 years . power wand has broken 3 times at a cost of $125 to replace each time. Last one lasted only 6 months After reading other reviews I know that I am not the only person who has had this problem many others have had the same issues. There is a flaw in this item and yet Sears refuses to replace it at no cost. There was a time when Sears stood behind all of their products. Do not buy!!
I will never buy another Kenmore....I use to buy Kenmore 30 and 40 years ago, they were worth it then, now I spend 399 dollars for the second best supposeably, and the suction isn't that great at all, plus I had it 4 months and they had to fix it....I should of bought a hoover...I had a Hoover for 20 years and when I gave it to my Daughter, it is still working and the suction is better than the Kenmore I just purchased...
