Attachments are not very useful
I LOVE vacuums. Absolutely my favorite household appliace. Pros (and background) - I've owned this vacuum for about six months, after my previous Sears Progressive (upright) had it brush literally come out of the moldings. I had it for over 12 years. I replaced it with a this canister, since I've never had one and it sounded likfe fun, and (practically) I have a combo of wood, tile, rugs & carpets. I've been very pleased with the pickup of pet hair, dirt - whatever else I throw at it. I do enjoy being able to go from carpet to wood/tile floors with just a switch of the button, conveniently located on the handle. The telescoping wand is fun - I've enjoyed vacuuming my ceiling and getting spiders at a safe distance .. Cons - Tools. The crevice tool is not long enough to use on my sofa, between the seats in the car, or in the dryer's vent. The dust brush is too wide to use in slender places. I use my old upright for the tools because they're much better.

Piece of ****, cheap and missing features that other older vacuums had.
This vacuum is a POS.... the motor cuts out when you pull on hose. There is warning that says the vaccum won't operate if the hose isn't fully connected but apparently it is never fully connected or just the activity of pulling the vacuum to a new location puts it over the limit. I would take it back but bought it several months ago and only now took it out of the box. Still may try to return anyway, it is that bad. Can't imagine keeping/using for 15 years like past vacuums. Also no way to attach the vacuum head to the unit for easy carrying and storage. This is my second extremely poor experience with Kenmore products. Sorry Sears you've lost another customer due to crappy/cheap products.

Returned it

I've had Kenmore vacuums most of my adult life and thought they were great. This one was horrible--the floor piece hardly touched the floor, the parts were hard to take apart. I could go on and on. Suffice to say I returned it shortly after purchasing it.

Wish I had returned it when I could

Purchased this to replace an older model. I should have just had the older one reconditioned! Ive had this modle for over a year and I hate it!! The tools are useless. Especially the crevice one! Its so thick and clunky, it doesn't fit in any "crevice" and the suction is just not strong enough to make up for the lack of fit into tight spots. I can no longer get in those small spaces like along seems or under baseboards or even under oven!! The pet hair piece....I think I may have the wrong one! It DOES NOT attach! Again I wish I had returned when I could, but I held out thinking I'd get used to it....I thought Id love the telescoping wand...at its longest point its not that much longer then one that doesn't telescope and at its shortest point its really only practical for my 5 year old to push. Save yourself the trouble and don't bother! Or try it for 29 days, then return it!

Poor, poor quality

We purchased this vacuum based on Consumer Reports recommendation. However, after using the vacuum for about 2 years, we have had to replace it--the quality of this machine was very poor. About 1 month after purchasing it, the power cord would not retract. A month later, the rollers would hang up on the low head setting. About 6 months, ago one of the wheels fell off because of a cheap piece of plastic it was attached to, and then shortly thereafter, the head adjustment setting broke. Based on our experience, I would not recommend this vacuum to anybody.

Worst Vacuum I have ever used or owned

This vacuum was designed totally wrong. Everything about it makes it hard to use. The attachments are not functional. The connection mechanisms are all bulky and makes using this difficult in even large spaces, just forget tight or small areas. The entire line should be replaced free of charge for anyone who purchased.

Overall
Disappointing design & quality

I vacuum weekly with the occasional "extra clean up". I have hardwood floors & large area carpets. The power head for carpets works well as long as you do not go against a wall or corner. Suction is good, but design does not allow for edge suction to be adequate. I hate, hate, hate the wand and attachment designs! The wand has bulky, clunky ends, which will not easily release from the nozzle or the attachments. It does not have a metal end with button type release. There is no allowance to use specialty attachments as I have for my dryer & radiators, since the nozzle opening is not "round". The brush attachment, which stores around the outside of the nozzle, makes it difficult to detach the wand and to line up the wand when you want to re-attach it. The floor head attachment has a very weak, all plastic swivel, which breaks away from the wand way too easily. I have had to reach under furniture MANY times to retrieve it! It's a pain in the ### to snap back on, too. Finally, the crevice tool has an open slot to each side of the very short attachment. This greatly reduces the suction quality. In order to get the results I want from it, I cover these slots with my fingers (I suppose I could use duct tape). I have owned several Kenmore vacuums over the years. This current one was to replace the one I purchased in 2001. I repaired that one as a back-up for the 2nd floor. I use it more than the newer one. The design & reliability is WAY better than this newer model. Bottom line, I would NOT recommend any of the current Kenmores as they all now have the same design flaws and I will not be purchasing another Kenmore until they properly correct these issues. So sad, they used to be sooo good!

Fell apart in less than 3 years

A wheel on the powemate fell off because the plastic piece that held in place broke in two places. Not sure how that can happen, as it's an inside part. And the wand release also broke (also an inside piece of plastic). Replacement parts would cost more than the vacuum originally cost. So if you are still thinking of purchasing this vacuum, then I guess you'd better get the extended warranty. Manufacturer's defects are only covered for one year!
