Attachments are not very useful
I LOVE vacuums. Absolutely my favorite household appliace. Pros (and background) - I've owned this vacuum for about six months, after my previous Sears Progressive (upright) had it brush literally come out of the moldings. I had it for over 12 years. I replaced it with a this canister, since I've never had one and it sounded likfe fun, and (practically) I have a combo of wood, tile, rugs & carpets. I've been very pleased with the pickup of pet hair, dirt - whatever else I throw at it. I do enjoy being able to go from carpet to wood/tile floors with just a switch of the button, conveniently located on the handle. The telescoping wand is fun - I've enjoyed vacuuming my ceiling and getting spiders at a safe distance .. Cons - Tools. The crevice tool is not long enough to use on my sofa, between the seats in the car, or in the dryer's vent. The dust brush is too wide to use in slender places. I use my old upright for the tools because they're much better.

Piece of ****, cheap and missing features that other older vacuums had.
This vacuum is a POS.... the motor cuts out when you pull on hose. There is warning that says the vaccum won't operate if the hose isn't fully connected but apparently it is never fully connected or just the activity of pulling the vacuum to a new location puts it over the limit. I would take it back but bought it several months ago and only now took it out of the box. Still may try to return anyway, it is that bad. Can't imagine keeping/using for 15 years like past vacuums. Also no way to attach the vacuum head to the unit for easy carrying and storage. This is my second extremely poor experience with Kenmore products. Sorry Sears you've lost another customer due to crappy/cheap products.

5 for improvements, 1 for the plastice

Love the vacuum (my 3rd one) , hate the plastic. PROS -Amazingly long cord - I only have to plug it in twice in my long L shaped ranch house -Amazingly long handle - I'm 5'7" and I love not feeling like I have to bend over -Nice long 6' hose - the long handle/hose makes it easy to clean the corners of the ceiling - old spider webs, vents, behind the bed, etc -I love the rug brush! It has no belt so stuff is less likely to get tangled up in there - I can even vacuum area rugs and the dogs Kong beds - The plastic around the bottom of the wand doesn't scratch door frames, furniture like the metal wand did CONS -ALL THAT PLASTIC!!!!!!!!! -I've had this vacuum about 2-3 years now and it has duct tape holding it together in 2 places. The first was the floor attachment - it broke within months - fortunately that's just a cosmetic fix. The little plastic piece that holds the wand and hose together was the next to go. You had to work it just so to take the hose off or more likely, to keep it on. It would fall apart while you were vacuuming. Finally, one day it just disappeared. Well too bad, I rarely use the hose alone, so now the hose is duct taped to the wand! -Oh plastic- that stuff that keeps you from scratching the bottom of your furniture also keeps you from vacuuming UNDER your furniture because it's so wide - about 3". So forget about vacuuming under the dresser, your couch, between the fridge and stove, etc. Now I own a Swiffer dry cloth sweeper-more work. -I feel like the bag gets full faster. And of course Sears is always out of bags! I only vacuum once a week whereas when my kids were small I vacuumed more often and did not feel like I was always changing the bag. We have about 70% non-carpeted floors so I also sweep them as needed during the week. So I'm thinking the canister must have gotten smaller also? CONCLUSION Overall performance, I have nothing to specifically complain about - generally speaking, on a day to day basis, it gets the job of vacuuming my floors done and is easy to use and maneuver - 5 STARS. Quality - plastic 1 STAR, so far, everything else is ok - 3 stars overall Out of the 3 Kenmore's I've personally owned, this one leaves me with a Love/hate relationship. I definitely love the pros, but really, how bad is it that I should have a duct taped vacuum cleaner within months of owning it? My guess is that when the Sears guys designed this pretty new vacuum, they made some great improvements based on some great suggestions. Then they prettied it up with purple and white and made it CHEAP with plastic. BUT they forgot to test the whole thing in REAL HOMES. As did that famous magazine who has ranked it so highly and we have all trusted for generations. Suction and a long cord are definitely pros, but if it won't vacuum where it needs to, is it the best it can be? So for that, I give it 3 stars. I hope they take the CONS and improve them. I love the canister vac. Bring back trim, sturdy metal!

OK

This vacuum cleans ok, but the wand release is terrible. I have always had a Kenmore vac - this is the worse. Cant get near edges when you take the want apart - big and clunky.

Second Kenmore Canister Vac in 45 years

I love my Kenmore Canister Vacuums. This is only the second one I have purchased in 45 years of marriage. It is so adaptable to any job I am doing and is light and maneuvers easily.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Not up to old Kenmore standards

This is the 4th Kenmore vacuum I have owned. The first, purchased in the mid 80's, is still running, although it looks a little worse for wear. The powermate attachment bit the dust years ago. The next 2 died from lots of use. This one appears to have been designed by a large man who had never vacuumed a home in his life. The wand and attachments are too large to fit under the furniture - may as well have a canister vacuum. I am too old to move the couch every week to clean under it. I am hoping that the hose from one of the 2 dead ones will work on this one so I can use the wands and attachments from it. Otherwise, it works ok. The HEPA filter is great for people with allergies. Compared to a lot of other vacuums on the market, it is wonderful. Just wish it had been designed for women to actually use to clean their homes!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

I like the vac HOWEVER ....

The suction is great but I do not like the attachments at all. Crevice tool is much too short and the brush ....... hate it. It needs to be smaller ... more compact with more bristles. Would love to be able to order one if there is one that would fit this vac. I gave only 3 stars based solely on the attachments. The attachments, to me, are just as important as the suction of the vac.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Electrical Fault

Following purchase I tried to vacuum my home and it repeatedly shut down. If I detached and reattached the wand it would start up again. The beater bar also repeatedly stopped working and could be restarted by pushing "restart".

Miserable step backward from the Kenmore of the 1980s

We bought this a year ago to replace our finally disintegrating Kenmore that I bought out of college in 1986. How companies can make these kind of giant leaps backward in usability given three decades is such a mystery. It vacuums. Once you get your attachments on (consider substituting this activity in place of your weekly aerobic/resistance workout at the club), it vacuums stuff up, I'll give it that. Not super powerful, but good enough. That's what keeps it above one star. Now for the reason I logged in here to leave this review. The wands/pipes/etc. all have little plastic buttons to "enable" their disconnection so you can replace them with another piece. On a good day, you'll spend 5-10 minutes wrestling with it, finding just the right angle and application of elbow grease to make it happen. On a bad day, like today, you will wrestle for ten minutes and then throw the thing down in disgust at where American engineering has descended to. I simply cannot get the brush off today (to replace it with the carpet beater attachment). This has been an ongoing problem from the start. I wish I'd tried it in the store. Obviously the salesperson had possession of some Magic Decoder Ring that gives someone the superpowers to make it happen. Unfortunately, that didn't come with the vacuum. Maybe you have to rotate the connection 30 degrees to the right, then 40 to the left, and 20 back to the right first, like a bank safe. In any case I was not given the combination. I'm a 6'0", 200 lb fit male who does weight workouts twice a week. I have no clue what Kenmore's "engineers" (and I must put that in quotes for honesty's sake) were thinking when they put this out the door. Give me back my old technology with the simple metal connectors. Ugh.
