I have had this vacuum for about a year. It was fantastic at picking up pet hair and dirt in my home. I loved the detachable hard floor unit for my mostly tiled house. It had a couple small plastic parts break but still worked wonderfully BUT then the motor just went and I have only had it for a year. $500 down the drain. You are better off buying a cheap one knowing it will go in a year and then buying another cheap one. Get yourself 5 years of vacuuming for the the same price that I paid for 1 year!
I've waited several months to post this review because I was so unhappy after my first time using it. I have used ONLY a Kenmore canister vacuum for the past 39 years. I bought my first in 1975 and my second one sometime in the 90s. Both were incredible machines. This one will never last that long. Although it provides great suction, it has several design flaws. The telescoping wand (and I'm only 5 ft 3 in. tall) collapses with the slightest pressure. It is impossible to pull the canister in a straight line. It careens in one direction or another into walls and furniture. The cord retracts very sluggishly and I suspect will soon quit altogether. The bag compartment is too small to fit a bag into it without folding it under. The ONLY positive design feature I can see in this design over my old model is that the on/off switch is on the hose end and easier to reach than having it on the canister itself. I will definitely look elsewhere when I replace this machine.

The performance and usability of this is great out of the box - good suction and easy to push on the carpet. That is why it received such high marks from Consumer Reports. However, the big problem with this vacuum cleaner is that the power head is made from cheap, thin polystyrene plastic and after a time the housing parts break. Honestly, it is not much of a step up from a Revell plastic model kit. I'm not a heavy user but have replaced numerous parts on the head set as they break off (at least three in the past four years). One of the big failures is the electrical connection in the head. It comes loose or one of the connections fail and only sends power to the rotary brush when you pull back and cuts out when you push forward. The vacuum cleaner repair shop where I took mine said this is a common problem and gets 5-10 per week. I really loved this vacuum cleaner until it started breaking on me.
Owned less than 6 months. As others have experienced, the adjustable wand eventually spontaneously collapses with even modest downward pressure. I've resorted to using duct tape to hold it in place. Suction is fine. Integrated tools are good and generally useful. Cord still fully retracts, but with much less force. I suspect this will eventually become an issue. The collapsing wand is incredibly annoying and renders this almost unusable. Sears should replace it.
I went from a Rainbow to this vacuum. I was tired of the water basin. This one won't steer in a straight line, the telescoping mechanism broke the first time I used it, hubby had to finally take a screw and make it permanently 'out'. Really designers?!? Plastic on metal?! Who thought that was a brilliant idea? The retractable cord is great, but you have to pull it all the way out every time or it gets so hot that the plastic cover goes mushy, and then when you eventually try to retract the cord, you have to pull it out anyway or it won't pull it all in. As for suction, that is about the only thing that does work right. Which is good, because this is one of those things in life that you do want to suck! And now it looks like this has been discontinued.....big surprise? I think not.
I love this vacuum. It's easy to maneuver, get's the edges super clean, tells you when the area you're vacuuming is clean, and it's quiet. The tools and accessories are easy to use, and the pet power-mate tool picks up my corgi's fur like magic! The fact that you can cross over from carpet to floor with one simple motion makes this a perfect vacuum.
I purchased this vacuum about a year ago. It doesn't do a bad job vacuuming if you want to take a chance of burning your house down. The spring loaded cord needs to be pulled all the way out of the vacuum while you're using it. I didn't do this the first time I vacuumed. When I pulled the cord out for additional length, I literally burned the palm of my hand the cord was so hot. SAFETY HAZARD!!
The motor left us on our previous Kenmore vacuum. so after reading reviews, the Intuition model sounded good, expensive, but after trying it in the store, we felt confident it would last. mistake! Within warranty, the plastic piece holding the hose to the canister broke. When the unit was returned, the cord would not pull back. Instead of driving 25 minutes and waiting in line, and waiting another 2 weeks to have it fixed, I opened it, figured out the spring was missing and ordered it. now, terrible issue. The connection between the pipe and the hose is arcing. The connector is all black, and evidently dangerous. The power is intermittent. I cleaned it the best I could, but the problem is too serious, part needs to be replaced, But they do not sell the the connector, you have to buy the whole PCB, a $60 expense. And if you bring it, labor would add more costs. Then the light at the bottom became a strobe, flashing constantly. very annoying. Another $60 for the PCB assembly. For the price paid, this is an all plastic piece of junk.I hope there is a recall on this machine. Arcing is a dangerous thing, especially when it happens a few inches from your hands.
