I have two dogs, tiled foyer and kitchen, carpet everywhere else. The floor attachement is built into the carpet beater attachement and with a click of my foot, the floor attachement releases and I can vacuum up all the dust bunnies in the foyer and dust, seeds, whatever in the kitchen and then I just drop it back onto the carpet attachement and keep moving. The cord is the longest on the market, I think, and I never have to stop, plug it in, stop, plug it in....just an awesome vacuum..Oh, two other things...this is the best to vacuum under tables and chairs, without having to move them and the suction is incredible, especially not having to get a corner crevice device out, since it picks up the edge dust wonderfully.
We bought a business a 1 1/2 years ago, and acquired the vacuum cleaner as part of the office equipment. We were really pleased to find that it is lightweight, truly self-propels, and works well. I would highly recommend it!
I wonder if the people who designed this ever even tried it after it was made. It is the most frustrating vacuum I have ever used. As you pull it along the canister turns in acute angles away from where you want to go. So you are constantly having to go back and drag it where you need it. Also, that front wheel is so small and useless that it gets hung up on EVERYTHING bigger than a dust mite. The quick release hardwood feature is the only positive thing about this vacuum. By the time I am done vacuuming I am so frustrated and angry all I want to do is take it outside and smash it to pieces. Additional issues, the bags not fitting, the extension feature collapsing, poor canister mobility (beyond the front wheel issue). Overall, because of this experience I will never buy another Kenmore vacuum again.
Head dives forward when using on thick shag type carpet, impossible to push. Also the handle collapses when pressure is applied to move the head forward - like the extension lock will not hold. In shop for repair. Vacuums should last over 10 years, yet this one is down in two months. I went with this model based on Cons Rep article. They are wrong! A mistake to buy Sears, should have bought another Miele.

You can get good suction from many base-level vacuums. Buying a price premium is to get reliability, durability, and good experience of use. I now have a worse experience using this product than I would replacing it with a $50 from *******. I purchased this vacuum with the understanding it was a premium product of professional quality. Even though I was buying for home use only (1-2x/week), I wanted a vacuum that would last for 10-20 years. I was also intrigued by the schematic and repair diagram that allowed me to identify parts. It made repair, which I hoped not to do, seem easy and doable. In short, there are design flaws that cause the parts to wear out. (i.e. The cord retractor is placed near the motor and the heat during use makes the latch release) The construction, which should be higher quality on a $500 vacuum, are the same inferior plastic that have now broken with moderate use. I have to carry the canister around the house because the hose pulls out with any pressure. The attachment doors' hinges, never the smoothest, have now broken and are useless. The kicker, when I looked to get replacement parts to repair, they are each $40+ for small pieces. Total highway robbery. Add to that the amortized cost is an exorbitant $1.35/use - this vacuum is a terrible value. Last, the horrendous experience I had trying to talk to anyone in Kenmore customer service about my problems, then learning Kenmore doesn't have a customer service department despite the phone number on their website, has made me resolve never to buy a Sears affiliated appliance again.

Used for the first time. The sound was not as loud as older vacuum I had used and purchased from Kenmore brands. It did a great job on my hard floors and the area rug. It was easy to assemble and use. I would encourage buyers to have a demonstration of the product by the sales person for the numerous function it can perform.
Poor design. They used plastic push buttons for releasing nozzles, wands and attachments. After 1 month the plastic button heads that push against the metal buttons are worn out and makes the disassembly to change attachments and heads almost impossible. They need to re-engineer the button system to make it usable. I do not recommend this very expensive vacuum cleaner to anyone.
Love this vacuum, it makes my carpet look new again. This is my second one, the first one lasted a little over 10 years. My one complaint is that it is a little hard to drag around corners. The last one had the same problem...it is just a canister thing. The ease of the tools make up for it.
