I have owned this unit for 20 months. I just had it removed, after it failed for the 5th time. This time it was unrepairable, as all the seals failed. I was sold this, being told that it was designed to be installed inside or outside. I installed it outside, living in Florida. The first four failures were due to the electronics failing, and shorting out my circuit board. After replacing each time, I covered unit to avoid future failures.
Save yourself from frustration and purchase a fleck valve or clack valve unit...much more reliable. This will be my last appliance purchase from Sears.
This softener does everything that it's supposed to. It's easy to install with a minimum of tools. But it annoys me that I had to navigate thru this site like Magellan to find the "Use and Care Guide" and spend 29 sheets of my own paper to print it out the English portions. You see, Sears only provides the installation manual in the box. And if you'd like to know how to tweak your softener to gain optimal performance, you need the "Use & Care" manual. Of course, you could run back & forth reading from the computer monitor, but that would be pretty stupid. Bad show, Sears!

For the second time, my Sears water softener failed, sending small resin beads to all my faucets. I had to spend hours unclogging my water lines. Of course, this is not covered by the warranty. There is a design flaw with these units. They last 6-9 years before they malfunction . Do yourself a favor and buy something else.
Love our new Water Softener. Yes, the pipes are different from the old ones, but husband had no problem installing the new softener. Easy to program, quiet, love the lite inside tank, overall an excellent buy.
We replaced our old Kenmore water softener with the Kenmore Extra High Efficiency Water Softener. I love the update of the low salt light. I also love the salt monitor level indicator on the screen. I didn't like the fact that I had to print a use and care guide. Our old one came with one. This one only comes with an installation guide. I wish Kenmore would have kept the Recharge tonight warning on the model. This function seems to only work and warn you if you manually press it to recharge. Our old model would flash when it would be recharging that night, and we expected that this one would also have it. We have no clue or warning that the softener is going to run that night now. Other than the recharge warning it seems to be a great replacement.
JUNK!!! I had a leak around the Venturi part which leaked water into the tank and screwed up the brine mix. I fought with the Sears help line until it was out of warranty and now I am stuck with their Junk. Yesterday their service tech suggested I must have dropped the unit. Really. Water @ 7 pounds per gallon plus salt, I think they are on dope!!! This weekend when I take it back, it may accidentally drop on the store floor. Terrible product and worse customer service. ***** here I come.

This water softener is working great. I installed it 3 months ago and have used Morton salt from Sears as well. It seems to use very little salt, perhaps around 100 lbs in the past 3 months. I had the hardness set at 20 grains. Just checked my water supplier and it should have been around 15 grains, so the next 3 months should see even less salt usage. The water pressure in my house is still about the same as before, hovering around 100 lb/sq in. Installation was no big deal. Lots of plumbing before I could start because of the way that the pipes were laid out in my basement, but actually plugging in the unit once I got the prep work done was a breeze. One day, when it dies and needs to be replaced, a new unit should be really easy to install.
