very happy
I bought this unit almost a year ago, so I have a longer experience with this unit before doing a review. Others talk about the specs, I'll talk a little more about the unit itself. Because this is an under the counter set-up, you do need to have an access hole in your countertop for the faucet to come through. We have a new granite countertop, but did not need to drill a new hole. Our countertop had a hole in it already for a soap dispenser. We took out the soap dispenser and the faucet fit perfectly. This particular RO system has a light on it indicating what condition the filters are in. When you push the knob on the faucet to get your water, the light blinks. Green means good, yellow means going to need to change filters soon, and red means change filters now. To me, this was worth the extra $100 over the other Sears RO system. The cheaper one did not have this feature at the time I made this purchase. There are three filters to this system. Two of them are standard filters that need changed about once every 3 months or so, depending on how much water you use. The third filter is the RO filter (called the membrane), and it is VERY difficult to get a new one. You can only order it through Sears Telephone order system, and you have to speak to a representative so they can look up the number. It is such a hassle, that I ordered two RO filters so I would not have to deal with it for about 2 years. It is difficult and the one filter is expensive. It is $65 just for the RO membrane. The other two filters run about $35 for both, and they come as a set. You can buy these in the refrigerator department at any Sears store. The filters are very easy to change. Also, I like that the filter case can be either standing on it's side, laying down or in any position. The cheaper one does not have this feature. The water itself is GREAT!! This is one of the only units that take the ammonia out of your water. Our local water has Cholormines, which is cholrine and ammonia mixed together. Other water purifiers would take out the cholorine, but not the ammonia. The ammonia can kill my fish, so I need a system that takes it out. I use this water not only to drink, but to water my house plants and to change the water for my beloved fish.

Incorrect specifications - confusing instructions
Considering this is Sears' most expensive RO unit, I anticipated that the specs would at least be correct. Storage is NOT 4 gallons but 2.4 gallons. You will quickly run out of water unless you store it elsewhere. Reading through the installation instructions, it is not immediately obvious that either you can install this under the counter or "remotely" (somewhere else). You don't need an air gap unless you don't install this under the counter (pardon the double negative). The instructions refer to a flow control insert needed for a remote installation and mentions figure 26. There is no figure 26. Included is a device to tap into a copper cold water line. If you do not have a copper line (it's a braided line, for example), you will need to purchase a 3/8" T, as you would use for an ice maker. You will also need to drill a 1 3/8" hole into the counter for the faucet. So in addition to very limited storage, anticipate potential problems installing the water and waste lines and drilling through the counter top. You might want to consider professional installation. And save some clean water jugs for extra storage.

Love it!

This is my third unit. It produces great tasting water. We were fracked before it became chemical wise. EPA says its gone, but just to be sure I have these for drinking water.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Will leak internally and ruin your cabinets, period.

In only a few months this developed an internal leak at some factory plastic welded joint and the slow leak ruined very expensive cabinets. Sears will not even warranty the product (yet has a 1 year warranty) and absolutely won't discuss the water damage done. Avoid at all costs.

Clean water for family!

Works very well and we are pleased with it. The filters, while kind of expensive are easy to change.

Premiere Reverse Osmosis Drinking Water System

This is an excellent reverse osmosis drinking water system. We have had 3 systems over the past 20 years and just replaced our old one which was the same model. It developed a leak but we had it for quite a few years. Filters are easy to change and the water tastes great. My husband installed it but he has some plumbing experience. I was without one for about two weeks and really missed it. My mom has the same one so I was getting R.O. water from her until my husband bought and installed our new one. R.O. purification is the best water purification available and the water tastes amazing. Very smooth and clean.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

kenmore elite

We've had this unit about 3 years. Our water is HARD and this unit puts out lovely tasting water. My wife said that the dentist noticed that plaque buildup had lessened drastically right away. Filters are easily obtainable at the store in town, and we live in a remote area. I've let the pre/post filters run on too long and have to replace the RO filter. I'm hoping that is as easy. We plan to get this same unit for our daughter's new house. This unit makes water a pleasure to drink.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

This unit is garbage.

Bought this unit to replace a prior unit that worked without fail or leakage for nearly 15 years. This one leaked like a sieve from multiple connections immediately. The only connections that didn't leak were the compression fittings that I used to T off the unit to feed my ice maker. The collett system is garbage and they shouldn't even use it. Don't buy this unit, you are setting yourself up for disappointment and frustration. I bought mine today and will return it tomorrow! What a complete waste of time! Burned up several hours of my life that I will never get back! Junk!

Still Going Strong After one year

I bought this and had a licensed, bonded plumber install it. I could have done it, but I don't do underneath sinks. The unit started to leak in the first few months, and the fix, surprisingly enough was simple. Take the side apart and re-route the green tubing. Well, then, the battery kept indicating that I needed to change the filters. I called Sears on this, and was told that once every six months in the two filters and once every two years on the RO membrane would be the recommended times. Overall, I have no issues with this unit. It IS about four gallons, but after accessing about two gallons, the unit flow is not as strong. Not overly thrilled about buying $60 of filters every six months, but I suppose if I get through over 180 gallons, it's the same as lugging it into the house in five-gallon bottles. At least I'm not lugging.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Failed after 2 months, replaced and 2nd unit failed too!

We just a put in a new whole-house filter and soft-water unit. We put in the RO system to get rid of the sodium. Water hardness was tested as 3 so not too hard. RO unit failed after 2 months and was replaced. Second RO unit failed after 3 months and is being replaced with different model.
