I had a Maytag Neptune before this dryer but it was on its last legs. I got this machine because of the great repair record but I wish I had stuck with the Maytag. Although this machine does a fine job, there are things about it that I hate. On my old Neptune, you could dry a very small load on any heat setting. You cannot do that on this machine well. There is a "small load" setting but you can only dry on high heat! What?? If you try to dry a garment or two on the regular setting, it won't sense the dryness well at all. Also, the Steam Refresh function can only be used on high heat - you can't Steam Refresh a delicate item. It does a very poor job of drying one item - it always comes out wrinkled. My old Neptune had a very good sensor in it that worked with small loads. Not this machine. There are other things I don't like about this machine that just don't make sense. I would buy the new Maytag if I could do it over again!
I purchased this dryer about 16 months ago, 4 months ago it stopped working, i have replaced almost everything you can replace and it is still throwing a CE code and not drying cloths. and yes i have replaced all of my venting!!!!! Kenmore Customer service did not care sense i didn't purchase a extended warranty. I am not the only one that has had a problems with this dryer also. i understand sometimes things break, but this is just ridiculous. If you want a happy wife you will not buy this dryer.

We bought this dryer along with the matching washer. They are excellent and will clean and dry your clothes like no top loader can. You will see how gentle they are on your clothes when you only take a small piece of lint out of the dryer at the end of a cycle, even with towels. It drys clothes in a short time due to the washer getting most of the water out of the clothes. You will love it.
I purchased this high-end gas dryer because my local gas company was offering a $300 rebate on new gas dryers with a moisture sensor, and my old Kenmore electric dryer was 16 years old (but had never had a single problem). This dryer is way fancy -- electronic controls, steam feature, lots of options. I hesitated to get such a complicated dryer -- lots to go wrong and break. But I took the plunge. I got this particular dryer instead of a lower model because I wanted a stainless steel drum, which means a higher-end model. I really like the dryer -- have only used a few of the pre-programmed cycles, and I often just use the timed cycle with "air dry" -- no heat. The main pre-programmed cycle I've used is the "normal" cycle which uses a moisture sensor to determine the length of the drying time. It works ok but isn't perfect; a small load of towels I dried finished with the two hand towels being dry, but the two larger bath towels still slightly damp. But no big deal. My biggest complaint is the end of cycle "chime" signal. It is horrible!!! Who at LG (who makes the Elite washers and dryers for Sears) thought this impossible to hear chime was loud enough? My old dryer had a buzzer that you could adjust from soft to very loud, and I could hear it anywhere in my house. This musical sounding "chime" is so soft, even on the "loud" setting, that it's impossible to hear if I'm more than 10 yards away from the dryer -- and I can't hear it at all if the laundry room door is closed, the TV is on, etc. This is more than just a minor annoyance. It means that clothes will sit in the dryer and get wrinkled if I don't hear the chime, and I'm having to set my kitchen timer so that I can catch the clothes before they wrinkle. Seriously Sears, this needs to be changed. It's ridiculous.
I have had the steam dryer for just over two months and I haven't had any problems. It drys my clothes very quickly. The lint trap is easy to clean out too. The steam option has definitely come in handy for us. I have been able to throw in a pair of pants or a dress into the dryer using the steam cycle to get the hanger wrinkles out, saving me ironing time. The steam cycle is also nice to freshen up a shirt in the afternoon after wearing it in the morning (especially nice in hot Scottsdale, Arizona ). The gray color is also really attractive. I would defnitely recommend this dryer tofamily and friends.
We got this as part of a pair with washer. Our old one couldnt handle the use and abuse with active kids and pets. The options and care of everything from soccer clothes to bedding to delicates has been impressive. It does exactly what is advertised and quietly. The steam features were new for us and have become a pre work/school favorite in refreshing/dewrinkling clothes. While early in the ownership cycle, I would highly recommend this dryer. Very pleased.
