Since January 17th of this year, I have had two ranges. The first range was exchanged because of several defects such as warped grates, severely dented burner cover in bottom oven and an accent light level that was unadjustable. This is a $2000 plus range. Now I find the second range is defective also. The top oven will not heat to temperature and it also has a warped grate...or maybe it is the top of the range. At this point it doesn't matter. The top oven, the smaller of the two, does not double as a "warming oven". That is rediculous for the price. Also, it you get any food on the grates, it will not wipe off. You must use grate cleaner and submerge the grates. This is because the surface is very rough instead of smooth. When wiping off the grates, black flakes drop on the range top. Kenmore Elite is not worth the price. I do not have any idea how this will be resolved, but I am one very unhappy customer. It's a shame because my kitchen has many Sears appliances that make me very happy. Sorry Sears, but you need to produce the quality to match the price. NO RECCOMENDATION HERE! Save your money; buy something else.
Kenmore Elite Double gas range Model 78903. 1.Book from manufacture misprinted. The book lists the range features and then identifies the features with a picture. Numbered items go to 21 and pictures go up to 22. Why is this issue? Due to this misprint when converting all burners to LP if you follow the book the orifices are installed in the wrong burner. 2. After installation, (yes the gas line was an issue as mentioned in other reviews) the ovens were taking forever to heat. Probably up to 45 minutes. The beeper would go off and if you placed a manual heat thermometer in the oven their would be a 50 degree difference. Called for service waited a week and repair man came and adjusted the temperature in both ovens. Still slow to heat but would eventually get to temperature. 3. Baked rolls in upper oven and used light colored pan and allowed oven to preheat for 45 minutes. Rolls on outside of the pan on both sides burned and rolls in center not cooked. Then tried two loafs of Zucchini bread. Both loaves burnt on exactly half of the pan to black. 4. The timer Set/Off button if pushed in the following sequence turns the oven off. Select oven, push bake, push start, push time/Set button (Numbered 1 in the book), push 60, push start. In one minute the oven turns off. Book clearly states the timer Set button will not turn the oven off or on.If you actually push the start button twice it will not turn the oven off. If you do all of above but select 100 for one hour this does not happen and you only need to push the start button once. Now I am afraid to trust the timer for anything if I am not in the room. Another service technician came out. he said the oven was working correctly. I took a picture of the burnt bread and asked him to explain?? I absolutely hate this stove. My old GE worked better and it was 17 years old. Sears offered me 1500 credit for the stove or another stove just like it but they do not want to pay for the LP conversion or deli. The stove does not work I just want a stove that bakes properly and I feel they need to make this right by delivering another stove and setting it up.
During set-up had to adjust oven temp. It was off 11 degrees F. Oven still baked cakes and cookies unevenly, with or without convection. After the oven is on for an hour the knobs get so hot you can not touch them. Now I know why they are not plastic (they would melt). Range technicians say this is normal quality today. Need to return this one.
I just installed this stove. I haven't had a gas stove in many, many years. I've only had electric cooktops. It seems to me that things are taking longer to cook on the gas stove. Not sure how this could be. In addition, the "turbo" burner is not nearly as quick as is advertised. Again, I feel my electric cooktop was quicker. I'm going to give this some more time to see if my opinion changes. It is a very pretty stove and looks great in the kitchen. I thiink I'm going to really like the smaller top over as most times It's just the two of us and it's nice not having to heat an entire oven.
This is a wonderful gas range. This range is economical and gives you all the options of a bigger stove. The double ovens are great; I have Celiac and inevitably I have to bake two different items. The bottom oven has those great features to bake two things on different shelf levels at the same time. The center top gas cooking unit is perfect for big pots like for canning. It works great for everyone in the family. The only thing I wish Sears would have added or thought about is some type of removable plates on the top of the stove under the gas units. It does make it a bit more difficult to clean up. I don't know if Silicone could be used for this purpose, but maybe someone at Sears could think of this added feature to add to a very good stove.
I have cooked with a gas range for over 21yr. However, my previous 2 ranges were white or cream, and the stovetop was a real challenge to keep clean. So I chose black and now I spend only a fraction of the time cleaning the stovetop! I chose the 2 oven option as I prefer that to using the convection option, especially for bread. The lower oven is my primary oven and to some people it may not be a good option as the oven is very close to floor level. However the doors are shorter than normal oven doors so you can get real close to reach your baking pans inside. What I like best is the grate that covers the entire top of the stove. This is very convenient for placing hot pans and casseroles when you take them out of the oven. The biggest burner is great for pressure canning and takes only a short time to heat up a tall canner. Each of the burners has a different level of BTU so there are 5 options of power level including a simmer burner which is just right for cooking rice. I really like the clock display, and that I can read it while the temperature of the oven is displayed to the side. However, if the timer is set, those numbers show where the clock was displayed, and the time is not displayed. The buttons are sensitive and don't need a heavy touch. The self clean works well and the oven is also insulated exceptionally well. This keeps your kitchen from getting very much warmer and also more efficient and even baking because no heat is escaping. It does take almost 20 minutes to heat the lower oven to 400*F, which is longer than some ovens, but I would still choose this oven over any other in the market.
love the double oven; dinners prepared quick with the convection bottom oven, top is great for broiling, pizza; easy to clean touchpad back; the turbo flame boils fast. I also purchase the matching convention microwave.
