I had been looking for a high efficiency washer for well over a year. I wanted to be able to wash king and queen size comforters as well my regular laundry. This washer is quiet and very versatile. You need to read your washer manual and try different settings and combinations. I am very pleased with this 5.2 cu. ft. Kenmore washer.
Out of the box this is a large unit. Be sure you have a 29"+ wide doorway and final location to handle it's size. But its size easily pays off in the quantity of clothes it can wash in one load. It washes almost twice as much as my old top load washer could handle. Some reviews have criticized the error codes that have popped up when washing too many towels. I have not had this problem. But then I load it reasonably, and I don't push it too far. The door is hinged on the left and cannot be changed. I have used/operated many washers, and I really like this one. It classy looking, easy to use/operate, and is energy efficient. I highly recommend this unit.
After months of trying to get this machine delivered by sears it finally came. The first problem is that the driver / installer said the washing machine pan I already had was too small of a pan large enough for a 27in washer. Why sears doesn't offer the right size pan is beyond my belief. So after shopping around various websites for washing machine pans I found one at **********. The Model #96 size 31x 33 1/2. You'll probably have to order, its not normally a stocked size. You'll have to make a hole for the drain spout if installing upstairs of a home. And when pulled off the truck WOW its way larger than I thought. Make sure go to the store and measure, it's a pretty **** big machine. As other people have commented this machine makes a loud banging noise as it calibrates a loud takes a while to get use to. Very annoying, Defiantly a negative. If purchasing you'll probably want to install in a basement of a home because of the noise. Theres a smaller version of this machine 4.0 cu thats probably the one you want. Its larger than you'll use on most instances. The dryer I have never filled up. Overall it washes Well, No complaints. Still getting use to the cycles. **** I haven't even read the directions. But its a washing machine. After all the research of machines, what Ive come to is theres no perfect machine. They all come off an assembly line and just pray get a good. I was infatuated with machine, big isn't better but its defiantly a good product but all will have something you'll complain about. Good Luck!!!!
The washer does an on/off slow fill that initially was causing "water hammer" with our pipes. We did not have it before with another brand. After thinking it was just the hoses hitting the wall I secured those and it still happened. After buying a $10 water hammer arrestor from ********** the problem was solved. I did read other reviews about banging noise. Why a $1500 washer doesn't come with this $10 part is beyond me.
I purchased this washing machine after being diligent and doing my homework. It had good ratings and only one negative review. Well here's it the 2nd negative review. After only 1 1/2 days I had to empty the drain due to water standing in the tub. I put my king comforter in it on Saturday morning ran errands and came home to a soaking wet comforter, 3 spin cycles later I could finally put it in the dryer. My previous Kenmore Elite was in great condition for being 10 years old, it only needed a new seal/bearings. But they quit selling those parts, the cost to fix should have been $30/$60, but now you have to buy the seal/bearings and tub for between $400/$500 that's if you do it yourself. over $1000 if you have Sears repair. Why, because they found a way to force you to buy a new machine. I was extremely excited and thought this will be energy efficient and cost less to run. Well tonight after returning home I was met with water on the floor of the laundry room, I only had 6 towels in the washer and it was flashing UA, uneven load then I drained 14 cups of water. Seriously, this is a $1700 machine and it has this many issues. I've owned it for 6 days and used it for 2 1/2. I don't recommend this for anyone. And even after draining it there is already an odor. Could I possible have a lemon? Yes, but for that cost it shouldn't be. People are not aware that LG is the manufacturer of Kenmore Elite and Maytag bought out Kenmore and Whirlpool. I am definitely looking for a machine that doesn't have a drain . Buyer beware. Total disappointment, especially since this is the top of the line for Kenmore Elite.

Was working fine and then all of a sudden starting producing a really strong electrical burning smell. Tech used the "smart connect" technology and claims the load (which was actually unusually small for us) was too heavy and that "burned out the motor."
This arrived today and I was so excited, however it will not fit through my standard 29" door. It is just wider than the door frame. We had to remove the door frame to get it in. I bought it to replace a 29" washer so you would think it would fit but you really need a 30" doorway. THe door is NOT reversible. I have now had these (matching washer and dryer) for 2 weeks and I absolutely love them. The super capacity size allows me to do double what I could in my top loading large capacity machine which is a huge time saver. I love the many cycle options, especially the Kids Wear cycle which seems to be getting my kids clothes cleaner. It is the perfect machine for a busy family. This machine is quiet, except for when the water is filling. When the water shuts on and off there is a loud clang which I can hear throughout my entire house. This machine uses so much less water than a standard top loading machine and I have already noticed the savings on detergent.
We just replaced our 8 yr old Kenmore Elite HE3T machine with this new 5.2 cu ft. washer. Old machine still ran fine and never had a bit of trouble with it, but time to upgrade to new. Sold the old one to a friend. This new machine is awesome! It washes huge loads that come out nice and clean. It washes clothes cleaner, faster, spins them dryer, and does this all more quieter than the old he3t machine. This new machine is direct drive and can really handle big (or small) loads nicely. If you have the room for this big machine, you will love it. Be sure to have sears install it because its pretty big to handle. I waited for a big year end sale and got a really good deal. About 43% off list if you put it on sears card. Sears card has a high interest rate, so best to pay it off or do a balance transfer from a lower rate card later. You also have 14 days from date of purchase to get a adjustment if the machine goes on sale for a better price. I did this and they were happy to make the adjustment. Be sure to use a sears reward card for extra points that you can use to get free stuff sold at sears. Do not buy the warranty. It comes with a one year warranty so if you buy the 4 year warranty you really only get 3 years out of it. You can always add a sears warranty later.
I bought this washer to do my king sized comforters. There must be something wrong with it because nobody else made comments about wet clothes. I have had it less than a month and the clothes do not spin as dry as my whirlpool did. Today the clothes were sopping wet and there water in the drum. I opened the drain and a lot of water came out, the drum was clean and not clogged. It is also very loud when the water fills it sounds like some is hitting the pipes.

I loved the large capacity, the whitest whites, express setting, (the settings that included things I thought I never would use). But then tonight, the cleaning service had put the drainer in the drain tub in a fill mode and the expelled water from the machine filled the draining tub but then stopped before overflowing...... could this be? If this is a feature of the machine I never knew, I love it even more......
