The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
We've had this fridge 8 months so far. The Good: It does a good job keeping food cold and veggies fresh. The various drawers/design features work as intended. We wanted a large capacity and indeed, this thing holds a ton. It's quiet and it looks nice. The Bad: As others have stated in their reviews, the ice machine doesn't hold much by itself - we use the extra bin to hold more ice in the freezer compartment. But the options for in-door ice + french door style don't leave many options. In both the machine and the bin, the cubes may freeze together after awhile. The crushed ice option has an awful distribution mechanism - despite keeping your cup/bin at the top of the spout, it still shoots crushed ice everywhere. The Ugly: The machine gave an error code about 7 weeks after we bought it. I called it in and Sears sent a new one the very next day, so that was good. (interesting fact: We had the purchase protection with food cost replacement, so I asked if that would cover any spoiled food - they said yes, but if I chose that option, then they would not immediately replace the machine. Instead, I'd have to wait for the mechanic to come out and look at it, which would take 10 days. Suffice it to say, I opted for immed. replacement) Bottom line: I rate the orig. fridge (before it failed) and the replacement fridge as good overall. But the failure after 7 wks is inexcusable and it doesn't inspire confidence about the future reliability. I admit that I didn't think it could happen to me, but it did. I thought we got a great price and would recommend if you can buy during a major sale (e.g. Labor Day, New Year's)

DO NOT BUY
Do not but this refrigerator. I purchased this refrigerator from Sears 1 year and 3 week ago. The refrigerator stopped cooling so I called Sears they said the warranty was over but they would send a technician over. The technician found the board inside the refrigerator was bad and low and behold he had a board from my refrigerator in his van. Seems these boards go bad more often than not. It cost me $464.57 to replace the board. That is not the only problem we had with the refrigerator 11 months in and still under warranty we found mold growing on the plastic lining between the refrigerator and the door. I was told by Sears that the Energy Saver feature of the refrigerator causes water to form on the outside that cause the mold. They cleaned the mold but I was told to prevent the mold form come back I would have to turn off the Energy Saver feature. So if you by this refrigerator you cannot use the feature you paid for because it cause mold. DO NOT BUY this feature it?s not worth the

Beautiful but has issues

We bought this refrigerator 2 weeks ago after shopping in a Sears store. We asked the salesman for recommendations for our situation (growing family, desire for a good solid appliance that did not have a history of failing since we live in a rural area, and lots of fridge space). This fridge was their top recommendation so we bought it without reading any reviews. Unfortunately, by the time we read the reviews and realized this fridge definitely has a history of failing we would have had to pay a 15% restocking fee to select a different fridge. So we decided to hope for the best. We were not told by the salesman that we needed a new water line (even after I asked) to have the delivery team hook up the water so be sure to purchase a new one if you want them to hook it up. However, the delivery team that delivered and installed our fridge were amazing! We have been using the fridge for about a week. It is beautiful, has amazing space, and all the features I wanted. However, the issues other reviewers reported about the ice maker are true. The ice is dispensed into a tray in the backside of the left fridge door. It has a very small reserve and so you must empty it into the ice tray in the bottom freezer if you want to have more than just 5 glasses worth of ice at a time. The other issue is that unless you are using ice frequently the ice melts just enough to form a solid mass. I just spent 10 minutes freeing the frozen mass and it has been only 2 days since we last dispensed ice. That compartment obviously doesn't stay cold enough. When dispensing water there are lots of drips after you are done. I have been sure to hold my glass in place for a few seconds after the water shuts off but I still have little puddles in the tray on the door each time we fill a glass of water. The other issue we are having is that the fridge rarely maintains a 33-40 degree temperature range. The readout on the door says the fridge is currently 33 degrees. But after moving two separate refrigerator thermometers all around (different shelves, forward and back, not in the door) the temperature is usually 42-45 degrees even on the lowest available setting and even after being unopened for 8 plus hours. This is extremely frustrating since anything over 40 degrees is not recommended. The freezer however is accurate and maintains -1 degree without a problem. I love the freezer pull out drawers and the space is much more usable than a side by side model. This fridge is also louder than our previous 13 year old Amana. When all is quiet in our house I can hear it throughout the front of our house. The noise isn't irritating, but louder than I expected. I will come back and update this review in a few months, but I honestly wish we had purchased something with a better review history. This is an expensive refrigerator and I do not feel it is worth such a high price.

Awesome, I love it.

I am so in love with my new Kenmore Elite French Door Refrigerator. After 10 years of GE, Side by Side. I couldn't take it any longer. I wanted a new Refrig. My GE was really giving me a lot of trouble. Also I was tired of not having enough room to put everything. So I told my husband that we are going to buy a Kenmore. I had did my homework and researched and read Consumer Reports. This Refrig got high marks. We went and looked at it. And at the time it looks like it was huge. I said for the two of us, we didn't really need such a big Refrig. But my husband said get this one. So we had it delivered and we just love it. It has so much room I can see where everything is .Also the lights inside when you open up the doors are so bright. I love the bottom freezer. It is so big and I can actually put in frozen pizzas now. I just want to say there isn't anything that I don't like about this refrigerator. As for the delivery people they did a great job. Didn't have any problems with removing my old refrig. Believe me if you purchase one. You will be a happy camper.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

All show no go

About 2 years ago my wife and I splurged on what we thought was a great fridge. We opened the doors to the Kenmore Elite and my wife was sold with the layout, led lighting, bottom freezer and generous capacity. I can't say that I've had as many problems as some other posters on this board but as of today it has caused me enough grief over the last 2 years to compel me to get on this board and save someone else some heartache. We have dealt with issues on cooling and went through the whole defrost the freezer thing to get it working again. Fan noise is a problem on occasion. We frequently get the err code on the front and unplug the fridge to get it working. And today I came home to find the water dispenser leaking all over my hardwood floors. This is about the 5th time the water dispenser has been a problem. It either sticks and blasts all over the floor after you take your glass away or it stealthily drips into the night. Many of the other posters have hit it right on the negative highlights. Take these to heart as this fridge is a lemon. I've been a landlord to 10 homes for the last 15 years and have had more problems with my own fridge over the last 2 than all others combined. Really? We bought our first fridge in 1992 (Kitchen Aid) and it still is chugging along in the same rental house. Nothing fancy but guess what - it keeps the food cold. One last jab, the led water/ice control center display is way overkill. Might be adequate if you were flying the fridge to the moon but don't expect your guests to be able to operate it in dim light conditions. For grandparents forget about it. Hard to read text on the silver background makes it difficult. The 6 extra buttons beyond "ice" and "light" are seldom used and surely account for problems with "computer boards". I'm not afraid of technology but if it ends up making my life more difficult then you can keep it. I'll take water, ice and cold food on the inside, you keep your useless computer board KENMORE!!.

Very Unreliable

Worst refrigerator purchase I have ever made. Have had refrigerator for almost 3 years and have had 6 service calls. Same problem every time and Sears will not acknowledge the refrigerator has an issue. Thank goodness I bought 3 year extended warranty or Sears would not have replaced parts. Very disappointing experience with Sears. Have heard similar experiences with Kenmore Elite refrigerators. I strongly suggest you do not buy a Kenmore Elite refrigerator similar to this design.

Kenmore Elite Fridge

Really love the ample room of the new Kenmore Elite and all in the same space as our old fridge. BTW, I hated that Kenmore from the start. Only thing that bothers me right now is the cold sweat mark that outlines the ice maker, on the freezer door. Unless i get an explanation for the sweat mark on the door, I would not recommend this Fridge to a friend.

DO NOT BUY - COMPRESSOR AND PANEL WILL FAIL

Sears, LG and Kenmore know the "energy saving" function kills the compressor and the electrical/computer panel and you will have to pay $456.08 to "Sears Service" for the labor and parts to fix a known manufacturer's defect. If you are lucky enough for it to break outside of the 1 year manufacturer's warranty, Sears Service will claim it is not their issue and give you an address to mail a letter and offer $65 off. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY. It looks pretty but it is a piece of garbage and they know it. If I could have given it 0 stars, I would have.

Horrible!

Do NOT purchase this refrigerator! Ours was purchased in Nov. 2012 and needed a new circuit board and freezer fan and motor in Feb. 2013 just 3 months into owning the refrigerator. Now, exactly 12 months later the same problems and Sears will not take any responsibility. The receipt for the previous repair totals $578.28 which was covered by warranty. Now they will not cover the same problem. After being shuffled around to find satisfaction, "Kurt" (company security policy disallowed him to give me his full name) stated I need to contact LG directly stating it is not Sears problem. Really Sears, you had no problem taking over $2000 from me, but now you will take no responsibility. The "best" they could do was offer us $65 off repair costs. In my research of this problem I've found out that the Department of Energy has removed the Energy Star rating for this model due to LG maliciously and intentionally inserting a circuit board that could identify when testing was being done ands shut down key parts of the refrigerator to increase energy efficiency. The circuit board is being replaced if repairs are needed during the first year, as mine was, but it doubles the energy consumption. This was never explained to us, so we are being lied to by Sears and LG and now stuck with a ill functioning refrigerator. We are so angry over this situation and contacting our local media and attorneys. PLEASE save yourself this trouble and find another company to make your purchase with - one that will stand behind their products and customers!!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Nice Fridge

The parts and labor warranty is only one year but certain parts are 5 years and the linear compressor is 10 years. Th el-compressor is supposed to be less noisy. It's been my experience that the compressor is what goes bad most often as was the case on my last Kenmore. The ice cube design is nice (small squares). The last fridge had semi-circle type cubes that fit the form of a cup and blocked the liquid or road up on your lip.

RIP OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!

Purchased this fridge september 2011 and had a problem from go. The ice maker was repaired and the board in the freezer within two months. The repair man told me not to open it to much. (really)?....I thought he was joking. Would get er ff then it would go away. this went on for six months finally on January 31, 2014 it died...just blows hot air. It never kept the food cold and I could not keep ice cream in the freezer it would turn to mush.I have been reading several complaints online. What amazes me is sears continues to sell this product. Definetly not worth $2,500 for two years. I think it's time for a class action suit!!!! I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.I have six children and my food is in coolers. SHAME ON SEARS
