My wife and I enjoy preparing meals together and so, after much mulling it over and comparing high-end gas stoves by GE, Electrolux, Frigidare, etc., we decided to take the plunge on a Kenmore Elite 30 gas slid-in. Now, after about two-months use, I can report that the experience has been very positive so far.
What we like:
+ 5-burner stovetop on a 30" slide-in makes for a very efficient design (!)
+ 18,000 BTU two-stage "Power burner" is great for carmalizing, big-pan cooking, and for boiling water in a hurry.
+ Griddle burner (they call it a "bridge burner") has a full range of adjustment and configurations, including seperate functions to accomodate either two pots or one oblong griddle.
+ Convection oven is great for baking. Among other things, it ensures that pie dough is crisp throughout and that multiple pans of cookies brown evenly.
+ Control panel faces up so that it is easy to read but is also angled away from burners so knobs don't get hot
+ Stainless steel cook top is easy to clean.
+ Warming drawer doubles as a storage drawer and, as long as there is room, you don't need to remove items stored in the drawer to use it for warming.
+ Comes with three oven racks, a cast-iron griddle pan, plug-in meat probe, and other useful accessories.
+ Pleasing "high-tech" appearance.
What we found wanting:
+ A flexible, heat-resistant gasket to go between the stove-top overhang and surrounding counter would have been a nice design touch to keep crumbs and other debris from accumulating under the flange.
+ Some of the burner controls seem to change the flame in sudden increments, rather than the smooth, continuous adjustment that one would expect on a high-end range.
+ I have some concerns about the vulnerabity of the "Elite's" extensive electronics that are in close proximity to oven heat, especially if the cooling fan should ever fail. So far the unit has been performing beautifully, but a comprehensive extended warrenty might be worth considering. (NOTE: An extended warranty from Sears is pricey but there are much less-expensive extended warranties available through "SquareTrade" on ******.com.)
+ The first time you use the oven there will be a very strong acrid smell. Don't even think about cooking in it until you have run a full oven self-clean cycle with your hood exhaust vent on high and all the windows open.
Overall, we think the Kenmore Elite 30 is a great design and if it proves as realiable as other Kenmore appliances that we've owned over the years, then I think we can look ahead to many more fun and rewarding cooking experiences.

We purchased our stove in December 2012. Now that we are out of the 1 year warranty (unfortunately all you get when you purchase a $2000 piece of equipment). In the past month, the sparker on the front right burner, "hot burner", no longer works, so we have to use a lighter whenever we use it. Not a huge deal, annoying, but we can handle it. This evening I went to open the stove, pulled on the handle and it fell off along with the entire front glass breaking into pieces. Sears and Kenmore will not cover this as it is out of warranty. My only word of advice, if for some reason your handle breaks off within the year after you purchase it and all you have to do is tighten a screw to get it back on, call in your warranty. Our handle fell off within the first year and I bet if we would have called a technician out to tighten the screw instead of doing the normal thing and putting it back together ourselves, this may have fallen under the warranty. So yes, a great stove, sure, but quality control is lacking. Good luck shopping on appliances are probably built in the same place, just hope you don't get a lemon as we did.
I love the look and style. Convection oven works great. Warmer drawer did keep the food warm. The negative side is the plastic control panel. They should have made this glass or just stainless steel. It is hard to clean, but I did find using the plastic cleaner and degreaser we use on our boat plastic windows really works great with a soft microfiber cloth. The grates are nice and light, yet strong. With arthritis, this is a big plus. I found stainless steel cleaner keeps the top clean, just use it after cooking so the grease does not build up. The bridge burner needs some adjustment, flame is lower in center, but I can have that adjusted. I have used it for pancakes and it worked great. The double burner is close to the plastic, so very large pots are not going to fit that well. Center burner is best. This stove gives the looks, bells and wissels of a high end stove, for a price that is far more reasonable. The oven heats up fast and cooks evenly. I would buy this stove again if the plastic on the controls was redesigned. I have this stove only a month and a half. Every thing that I have cooked has been wonderful, but I will get back to you regarding the problem with the plastic. I worry how long it will continue to clean with the plastic cleaner, and I also worry if the heat will discolor it in time. I would give it 5 starts if it was not for the plastic. So 4 starts is the best I would give it for now. I would recommend it to a friend with a warning about the problem cleaning the plastic.
Looks great and seems functional. I would not pay the price advertised, as they seem to always over price these items. Just wait until they go on sale which is every other weekend.
Owned for 1 year. Pros: Slide in range options are limited but this one was less than half the price of replacement Jennaire. Looks great! Burner arrangement is functional and gives the range a custom (larger than 30") look. Concerns about going from dual fuel to a 100% gas range were unfounded, baking is accurate and even, broiling is better with gas. Found warming drawer useful. Cons: I miss is the downdraft ventilation of the Jennaire. Needs a disable function for display pad cleaning. Overall, I'm very happy and recommend this range.
Bought this stove 5 months ago, Looks stylish in my kitchen. I cook 2-3 a day and bake 3 times a week, ive used all the cooking options. It Cooks and bakes brilliantly. It is very easy to clean. I have used this thing on its high heat and used multiple burners at once and nothing has melted on it like what others say. and YES! you CAN lock the Oven buttons and door by holding down the lock button for 3 seconds, do the same thing when you want to unlock it. So I donno what some people are going on about in regards with locking the thing. I love how it comes with all the accessories... griddle, racks, roasting pan etc... Obviously you HAVE to adjust your temperature and times when you are baking with convection... you cannot use the "convection bake" option the same way as using just the "bake" option you will burn your food!! Anyways, 5 stars. Ive used 3 other convectional Ovens in Australia and this one so far is the best.
The stove looks stunning and works very well, except for the fact that the electro-ignition of the burners is a little too much and needs to be used carefully
Standalone oven has lots of features and functions great. Easy to keep clean even with kids cooking and making a mess. I thought food may spill into front panel but it's sealed pretty well.
The bridge burner is located on the side rather than the middle. Unless you plan to make pancakes or grilled sandwiches a lot the location is very inconvenient. The bridge burner does not work that well with regular pans - isn't capable of high heat. The oven fan runs continuously while baking and then for quite a long while after the oven is turned off. This is to keep the digital controls on the front cool. If I would have know this at the time of purchase I never would have bought this stove. If it wasn't such a hassle (restocking fees, etc) I would return this stove. I regret this purchase!
The controls do not lock making it hard to clean. The rapid boil BTU burner will melt a microhood if installed above. It has not been well tested for practical home use. I had two stoves delivered because the delivery service could not get it out of demo mode.
