Kenmore Elite 30" Gas Cooktop, Model #3230 Issues

We purchased the Kenmore Elite 30" Gas Cooktop "sight unseen" as the store did not have it on display. Here are the issues we encountered so far:

Cooktop Layout - the larger burner and dual burner are too close together. One cannot cook safely with a large pot and a large skillet at the same time. Too much space was allocated for the control knob area.

Burner Performance - the dual ring burner does not work properly. It is difficult to ignite. When attempting to start the burner, the gas can build up and have a large flame burst when it finally ignites. Also, the center burner has an inadequate flame and leaves soot deposits on the pots and pans. These deposits are difficult to remove during washing. Adjusting this burner did not correct these issues so we stopped using it altogether. However, the turbo boil power burner works very well.

Durability - we purchased the White cooktop finish and the grey paint on the burner knobs chips off easily. Two knobs had chipped paint within a month.

Installation - the hold down brackets are too short for our tiled counter depth. The gasket seal corners sit within the largest allowable cutout size, thus it does not provide a complete seal with the countertop.

We are very disappointed with this cooktop and will be contacting Sears to return it.

large, powerful burners!

very satisfied with this product. wanted large burners for stir fry and this was it! some of the high end stoves (viking, sub zero, etc) didn't even have the 18k BTU power as this stove. installation was easy, you will need to buy a couple of accessories, and pipe sealant. some other negative reviews, maybe they bought defective units. but if you end up with a good one like mine, you'll be a happy camper!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

very powerful burners~!

We do a lot of stir fry at home, so I wanted to buy a stove with the most BTUs possible. Eventhough this stove only had 4 burners, 2 are 18k BTUs! both are in the front too, perfect for doing stir fry while power boiling. Installation was easy, eventhough I had to go to the hardware store to buy a 1/2 inch connector and pipe sealant. the only drawback about this stove is: the 18k burners are powerful and large, if you use smaller pots on it, the heat will melt any plastic handles on the pots... so watch out for that. I saw some negative feedbacks on this stove from other customers, maybe they bought defective units, but the one I got is perfect and I'm totally satisfied...

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Two defective units

This is a great looking cooktop with everything we wanted but they can't seem to make the double ring burner work properly. The first one had a tiny flame in the center that wouldn't adjust and the outer ring would explode into flame after about 10 seconds of gas coming out. They sent a repairman who couldn't make it work. So they sent a second unit that is defective in another way. On this one the center flame is huge and yellow but otherwise functions fine.

We're going to get this one replaced by something else. This unit clearly has quality problems.

This is a really bad product.

I was looking for a 30" cooktop to fit an existing cutout. Kenmore was one of the few brands that carried this size. I bought the white one. Within a week the grates chipped, I has to rder new one. The surfaces are hard to clean, and the paint chips easily as well. This product is a waste. I will never buy a Kenmore product again!

Kenmore Elite Cooktop Works Great!

We purchased a this cooktop and a Kenmore wall oven which allows us to store all our pots and pans in the drawers under the cooktop. The cooktop has four burners with different size flames. We've often had all four going for a meal. The range is easily cleaned by removing the four knobs and the two grill covers. We've used the cooktop for two years without a problem. We love it!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Overall
Very disappointing

I have been disappointed since day one.  The cooktop power burner had to be replaced one week after purchase.  Now, 2 months later the other burner does not light.  The flames are uneven and sometimes flare when lighted.  The burner cover turned red after 2 weeks of use.  The surface of the entire cooktop gets very hot, and I am afraid a child would burn themselves on it.  It is very hard to clean and shows waterspots after cleaning.  I would not recommend this cooktop.  I really want another one, but Sears said it would repair it only.   I have always loved Kenmore appliances, but this one is not good.

This cooktop should not have the elite name

I have been mostly dissatisfied with this cooktop since day one.

The first one I had came with a big chip in the porcelain at the power burner, and had issues lighting.

This unit (second one) has uneven flames within each burner, is still hard lighting and the porcelain surface underneath is virtually impossible to get marks off of when water (city water) cooks over.  I feel it was quite wrong to put the "elite" name on this product.
