We had to get a Microwave last year and when this range came on sale and matched the MW, we could not resist. We love Sears Kenmore Elite products and also have a fridge and barbeque that are awesome.
The control panel is held on with glue, which melts. When it comes off, Sears will require you to buy a new panel instead of fixing it. The part is over $500. The total repair was over $800. Naturally, I declined. The repairman said these panels fail very often. The electronics go bad, and then you're out $800. DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF JUNK. Also, the white top turns black nearly every time you use it, and you have to scrape the crud off by hand.
Prior to purchasing I did my research and read 'all' the reviews; at the time there were no negatives. In December 2011 I went ahead and paid $2300 plus $800 protection agreement for three years. One week after it was installed the glass over the control panel was 'hanging' and the entire control panel needed to be replaced. Fast forward December 2013; I just had my third control panel replaced two days ago. The problem is that the steam vents are just below the control panel so when the oven is on, steam rises up and during baking/roasting, it causes an error (F14) to flash. I have to turn it off and wait a few minutes then restart it. After paying this much money I shouldn't have to deal with this. Unfortunately for me, I will have to purchase a protection agreement every two or three years as long as I own this range. Be careful of buying any digital appliances because it will be costly in the long run and very prone to problems. Save your money and buy the ovens with regular knobs! Same advise for refrigerators. I bought the digital French door at the same time as the oven and have had it serviced each of the three years I've had it.
All I can say is don't buy it I had one and with in 2 years I had error codes and the top burners would not work. Sear came out and told me it would be $800 to fix it and would not be under warranty nor would they work with me in any way with the repair cost. I took it as far up the chain with Sears as I could and they did not care in the least. I tried to buy the parts myself and there were software upgrades that would not allow the new parts to work, $400, I sent them back 5 times. Had an outside repair co. come in and they told me it would be $800 but they could not guaranty the work because it was electronic and I should **** the unit. So I scraped a 2 year old range that looked like new and purchased another brand with a longer warranty. Do your homework with this purchase. To be honest I wanted to throw the thing though the window of the local Sears I was so mad.
This stove is just what I wanted. All the stoves that were double ovens had a small oven on top and a large oven on the bottom. Who would like to pick up a 24 pound turkey up off the floor. I would not buy an oven like that. Finally I found this one. I have had this oven since it first came out in 2011. The store did not even have a floor model out yet but I took a chance on it... I LOVE IT. Same size of both ovens and it fantastic for holidays or a big family. Buy it you won't regret it!!!
I received this range for Christmas 2011. I liked it until the loud continual beep and all power to it had to be turned off in the middle of fixing dinner! I have had at least 6 service calls. Three since March of this year 2013! The control panel has been replaced three times and the fourth has been ordered. Thankfully I purchased the PA. I have requested the product be replaced. Hopefully they will realize at $600 each replacement, it is more cost effective to just replace it. If it is not replaced, I'm not sure why they offer the PA's.
Quick heating & even temperatures in ovens and on cooktop; very pleased with food appearance & quality. Pie crusts crispy, biscuits golden, sauces smooth. Roasted an unstuffed 14 pound turkey to perfection in 3 hours. There's room for a bigger one. Use the convection roast feature so the broiler element on top doesn't come on and burn the turkey. You'll need a low-sided pan for the convection air circulation, with a rack positioning the turkey near the bottom. If you baste often, use the top oven or you'll be down on the floor a lot. You can't tent with foil, but butter-soaked muslin should work. This range went at the end of a narrow galley kitchen; the smaller oven doors let me reach everything easily. If it had a gas cooktop it would be perfect, but the cooktop needs TLC. You can't do canning on it, and I had to replace my old assorted cookware. All the control buttons are like speed-dial; very convenient once you try it. Still shines like new after months of daily use.
