I ordered this cooktop because the dimensions stated in the specifications for this cooktop said it had a depth of 2.5 inches below the cooktop. This was important to me because I have a drawer below the cooktop. When I went to pick this up I checked it before bringing it home and it might have been close to 2.5 inches for about two thirds of the bottom but there was a section on the left side running from front to back that was about 6 inches. This made the cooktop useless to me.
What is also annoying to me is that I specifically went into the store to verify these dimensions before ordering the cooktop. I was shown Sear's own cooktop installation manual for all their cooktops and it had the wrong dimensions in there also.

We've had this item for about 20 months- it was fabulous until it suddenly cracked the entire width across! We did not drop anything heavy on it, stand on it or do anything that would have explained this crack. We've been using it with care as it was a splurge for us. I am very disappointed. This is the 3rd cooktop I've bought (3 different houses) and the most expensive; yet, this is the one that has broken. BEWARE!! There is no reason this should have cracked with daily and normal use. It is no longer under warranty so I am out over $1300 and now must save for a new one. It will not be a Kenmore.

We have owned the previous version of this stove top for 5 years. It has broken twice. The first time the entire unit shorted out after approximately 1 Tbls of tomato sauce splashed onto it when I was making Mexican rice. We had a Sears tech come and work on the unit, and fixing it was no easy task and was expensive. Now one of the burners has shorted out again under the same circumstances. Less than one Tbls of broth splashed onto the cooktop. This time we called an independent service tech who told us this was the one unit he wouldn't even touch. His reason was that fixing them is a minimum of $400 and usually the fix doesn't last due to the complex nature of the electronics in the unit. Perhaps they have remedied these issues since we purchased our unit, but based on our experience I would not purchase another Kenmore glass cooktop.
This cooktop would benefit from an indicator that shows when the burner has reached the desired temperature. I feel like I can't control it. The burners heat very slowly. By the time it gets to desired heat, I get frustrated and turn it up and things end up burning very quickly. I have cooked on other electrics before, but this one is difficult. Also it is very difficult to clean. I cooked jam on it and it splattered and I have tried every method of cleaning I can find on the internet and every brand of cleaner but the jam is burned on and it seems the only thing I can do is let it cook off. I thought it would be easier to clean.
The physical appearance is wonderful. The controls easy to use and being able to lock the cook top to avoid accidentally turning it on is great. I also found the onboard 99 minute timer a good idea too. The burns respond quickly when turned on and heat up evenly. Very happy with my purchase.

This is such a poor design for a cooktop. YEs, it is attractive, but it has been one of the worst purchases. I am going to return it next week. The glass inserts that have the temp. setting get food, cleaner, everything caught around them in the crevis, with no way to get it out but with a toothpick! ALSO, the metal ledge is so thick, it doesn't sit level on my countertop, and gets food stuck under in on the counter side and the cooktop side.
It would not fit flush in the center of the front (the corners touched, just not the center). "Turbo boil" means a pot of water will barely-boil in 30 minutes or so. I made the mistake of trying to fix the uneven fit, and CRACK! $1400 bucks down the drain. Pure garbage.

The best cooktop ever, easy to clean, it has no knobs. So just spread the cleaner on it and use a non-scratch sponge and your done, easy easy. It came with easy instructions to mount on counter top, sits nice and flat, plus not very deep, have a drawer right under cook top.
