Kenmore Elite 30" Electric Combination Wall Oven - Twice the Possibilities

The Kenmore Elite 30" electric combination wall oven 4890 gives you more cooking options with the convenience of both microwave cooking and a dual-fan convection oven. The self-cleaning oven makes for easy care, as the exclusive AirGuard technology eliminates odors. The innovative temperature probe feature shuts the oven off automatically when foods reach a designated internal temperature, so making the perfect roast is easy. The microwave unit comes equipped with special features like sensor cooking and Turbo Roast & Bake that take the guesswork out of mealtime. Every cook who's short on time needs this Kenmore combination wall oven.

  • A built-in microwave oven uses the power of convection to heat foods from the interior and exterior simultaneously, so meals are cooked to perfection inside and out.
  • True Dual Convection uses two convection fans and a third hidden heating element to cook evenly baked meals up to 44% faster than Kenmore ovens without convection.
  • The Convenient Temperature Probe produces perfect doneness every time by automatically turning off once your turkey or roast reaches precisely the right interior temperature.
  • The Self-cleaning function conveniently cleans the oven's interior using high temperatures to burn spills, soil and soot away without a bit of scrubbing.
  • Kenmore Airguard™ Technology helps eliminate self-cleaning odors and smoke 85% more effectively than Kenmore ovens without it, so you can breathe easy.
  • With the push of a button, the total wall oven lockout feature secures controls and prevents temperature tampering, especially from the smallest fingers in the house.

Reviews almost kept me from buying. Do your research!
I recommend anyone looking at this oven to do your own research and make your own purchasing decisions. Some of the reviews almost kept me from purchasing this oven. Paid for the professional install. Installers said its the heaviest wall oven they've ever installed. Not that it means everything but nice to know this isnt an oven with a lot of cheap plastic/low gauge metal. We're very happy with the oven, I've done everything from microwave popcorn to roasting a prime rib. Here are my personal thoughts: 1) Learn the oven. Read some directions and learn how to use it properly. These new ovens are not your mother's ovens. 2) Take the reviews with a grain of salt. I'll dispell some of the myths/incorrect comments on the reviews that bothered me enough almost not to purchase. "It can't even microwave popcorn" - Read the directions and you will know there is a plate to place on the turntable. Once the plate is there, you are golden. We finally had perfect auto-sensed microwave popcorn. Our old unit burned the popcorn every time! Microwaving popcorn does not make an oven but it sure was nice! "There is no element on the bottom of the oven making it cook unevenly" - False. There are 2 (I think 3 actually with the convection on) elements in the bottom oven. There are specific no-no's with newer ovens that older ovens didn't have so again - need to read up. "No child lock when cooking" - This is true. The electric child lock will not work when the oven is on. Probably a liability to have an electric lock active when food is cooking. What happens if there is an electrical failure and the food catches fire and you can't open the oven? Only option would probably be those old mechanical sliding locks I guess. 3) This is a nice oven, we are looking forward to cooking lots of holiday treats in it! We baked the best cookies ever vs our old oven the first week we got it. Only downside I find to this oven is the small display clock which I cannot read from across our great room.

Kenmore Elite 30" Electric Comb. Wall Oven
We do like the outside apparance of this micro/oven, easier to keep clean than a stainless steel refrig. We had a temp. control problem w/first unit, and unit was replaced. We have found the control panel itself much too small to read and very crowded. Too many features to figure out. Poor instruction manual. Convection oven does not bake evenly, and top convection oven does not work at all, just the microwave. We also find the blowing air from the fan on the micro very annoying. Fan runs too long, ie. you warm your coffee 30 sec. and the fan runs 2 min. Fans are loud and long running. (outer cavity fans) We have found it helps to leave the oven door cracked to decrease the running time. I wanted to learn to convection bake and can find no recipe adjustments or instructions anywhere. Even people who use them don't have the needed information. This unit was an upgrade as Sears did not have the unit we wanted. We are very disappointed in this oven/comb. and would NOT recommend anyone buy it. There were no reviews when we bought and wish we had just waited for the model we wanted instead of this poor upgrade?? Posted on May 13, 2012

Microwave failures

We bought this unit and over the four weeks that it has been used we have had four service calls. Two calls to diagnose and two to repair the unit. These repairs started with replacing the main fuse (part cost $83) and then on the next repair appointment it required the replacement of the magnetron, switch, capacitor, transformer, and a thermal cut off switch. Now the unit works fine. The question foremost in my mind is just how long it will be this time. Sears repair service and the corporate office have been very supportive, quick to respond and great on followup. I appreciate this aspect of doing business with them. I however, have advised them to reconsider the manufacturer of this product as to date it has cost Sears nearly $1500 to repair this unit. I also received a gift certificate of $100 to purchase a temporary microwave in the event that the repairs do not hold.

Kenmore Elite 30" combo oven

Love this oven, I too read all the negative remarks about this oven and then decided what the heck, you can buy a BMW and it turns out to be a lemon. I had it professionally installed, he told me some of the the dos and dont's and I also read the manual. I have cooked a lot of roasts over the holidays using the bake and convection cycle in the upper and lower oven and have had wonderful results. It's like anything you have to work out the kinks and learn how to use it. Having not had a convection oven before I am still learning the process. I have learned to cook the meat uncovered to start and then cover. Some meats need more fluid in the bottom, roast potatoes cook a lot faster so keep an eye on them. Yes, the buzzer on the microwave is loud, it just makes you get to the oven faster to shut it off. The fan on the microwave blasts out, so I have learned not to be at eye level when it is on. The fan runs longer after the oven is turned off to cool it down, open the oven door and the heat comes into the room which on these cold winter days is no big deal, it cools down faster But, we do not find it to be too loud. We are more than pleased with this appliance and my boys have learned how to use it. Read the Instructions and learn by trial and error. p.s. The control panel works great, but again read the instructions. We have had this appliance since before Thanksgiving and have been cooking for a family of seven with it over the holidays.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Overall
Unreliable Cooking and Top Oven poorly designed.

Had the Elite Double Oven before this and worked great, but like the comination of features in this unit due to space saving. Looks great and cooks well on Convection Bake and does OK on a lot of the Microwave Auto Cook features.. However when you pay $4,000 for an oven you expect it to have been well thought out. Problems are: What idiot put a metal rotating tray in bottom, affects the Microwave Cooking and causes sparking if it touches inside wall? Too complicated to switch back and forth between Microwave and Cooking in Top Overn. In Lower overn on "Bake" cycle, it comes up to temp and then stops heating, but the Temp Readout contnues to show the preset temp so no way to know it is not cooking (ruined a lot of meals before figuring this out). Double Convection Fans do not cook as well as large single fan in old unit.

Garbage

I had this item also just over 2 years...technician came out said he only works on refrigerators. Oven sensor broke in less than 1 year. Only works on convection bake and the side walls expanded because I left the grills in and now they fall through to the bottom, so basically its broken, over $3,000 and not worth a dime.

Worst product I have ever purchased

Disappointing quality. Microwave product worked intermittently; died in less than a month. Repaired and tested, my "1200W microwave is 750W at best, it heats 1 cup of water for 1 minutes to 100degrees; old 1200W Kenmore microwave, same test=150degree water. Initially oven product burnt everything. Temp showed 400 degrees but was 435 degrees. I bought an oven thermometer and calibrated the oven myself. Both oven and microwave have hot spots and cold spots so actually using either for cooking just ruins food.

Kenmore Elite 30" Electric Combination Wall Oven w/ Convection

Outstanding performance in every way possible. We thoroughly tested all features of this oven combination and found nothing lacking. We are now contemplating the purchase of other Kenmore Elite appliances based upon the performance of this combo. It is definitely a keeper.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Buyer beware

The oven bakes fine and looks good. But don't use the self cleaning . After a year and a few months I cleaned the oven and it quit working. The service man came and pressed the reset button (the button was located so that only a tech could get to it) to the tune of $186 . Now a year and a few months I cleaned it again and again the oven is not working BUT I will not be calling sears again. Sears is not like it used to be they have become substandard with substandard products. So sad.

Microwave tray will arch and burn holes in liner

We purchased all new Kenmore appliances for our home. The Combination wall oven has been replaced 4 times because of holes that were burnt by sparks in the liner. The metal tray arched the inside liner that causes sparks and holes around the tray. We have contacted Sears several times about getting a different oven without a response. Poor quality for the price. Buyer beware!

Happy with this purchase!

Replaced a 20 year old unit with purchase. The unit looks wonderful and is easy to use. The installer warned me about the medal tray in the microwave. I just kept the glass one from my old unit. Very happy with this purchase.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
