Purchased a year ago and the shaft on the 3 Speed blower rotary switch shaft broke with no force put on it. It is out of warranty after 1 year and Sears want $70 for a replacement part (they don't just sell the shaft). I would not recommend this product because quality issues like occur and offensive renewal part costs are required. Just seems like gouging the customer after purchase.
We got such a great deal on our new range top. I love the stainless steel and the downdraft venting. I would highly recommend this product!! Product works great and looks amazing in my bew kitchen!! Thank you Sears forofferring such great products.
I don't normally post to these, but this could be important. I Purchased this stovetop in October of 2012 and it has been working just fine, no complaints. It was installed and adjusted by professionals. I am using LP gas and the correct nozzles were installed. But a few weeks ago, I was heating some water and noticed that the flame was odd. There was more yellow then blue in it. I turned the flame down a bit and decided to see if any of the other burners were showing the same anomaly. As soon as I tried to turn one of the other burners on, the stove basically exploded. All the knobs and the rubber protector beneath them flew off. The cast iron grates were halfway off. The rubber seal beneath the stove came partway out as well. I was lucky nothing struck me. Sears was called and a tech came out. Surprisingly, No damage, defects or leaks could be found. I still had to pay for the service call though. Since nothing was found to fix, I'm afraid to use it, but cannot afford to buy a different cooktop. If you have one of these stoves, be careful. Watch for unusual flames. If you're thinking of buying one, just be aware that there may be a potential dangerous issue with it.
I finally had it with my 15 year old GE profile with the interchangable modules & downdraft. It had never worked properly and everyday cooking suffered because of the seldom-used grill. For 2 years was working on only 3 burners. When the next burner went out i had it. So when looking for a replacement, my choices were limited - 30" gas downdraft. One of my big issues with the old one was all 4 burners were the same low power. That was the biggest reason I selected this Kenmore, was the range of BTU power from a super low simmer burner to a super high-output burner. No other cooktop w/ downdraft has this. I've been using this for 3 months now, and this cooktop does not disappoint. The low burner is perfect for rice, and other low-simmer items. The high burner boils water super-fast. The 3-speed fan works great. (ALL downdraft fans with gas burners will pull the flame, just the nature of the beast). The grates are super heavy duty. The knobs are cast metal, no plastic, and it is easy to adjust. The whole thing seems well built and sturdy. Now the minor flaws. 1. As others stated, the top does not quite fit over the old cutout. Mine is not on an island, so my husband had to put a piece of wood under the cabinet to fill it in, and cover the top with a black caulk to match the black counter. Would be more of an issue on an island, but the fix on ours is invisible. 2. Does not come in black. All of my other appliances, and my countertop are black. 3. Electric cord is too short - had to extend the outlet. Overall a really great cooktop.

First, we just installed it (ourselves) and Bjoong's warning should probably be taken seriously; use care when cleaning or you will scratch the stainless steel. We replaced a 5 year old Jennair downdraft glass top gas cooktop. The Jennair cost a little more and has good "specs" for high and low output burners. The Jennair was good-looking (same as the GE and Kitchenaid black glass downdrafts you now see for sale) but had faults which Jennair support dismissed: 1) Burner igniter failed and COULD NOT BE FIXED by a tech. 2) Two temperature valves failed in that it was impossible to know if the gas was fully off. 3) The control knobs are metal-plated plastic and two of the five split apart. Not good. Since we needed a downdraft the choices are limited unless one is willing to install a telescoping downdraft across the back edge and then buy a non-downdraft cooktop. The cost nearly doubles and we were about to do that when we found this Kenmore unit. For us it seemed just right: - Downdraft - High and low output burners - Kenmore reported reliability - Solid cast metal control knobs - Looks good without being a "Volvo" looking unit In fact it looks very good on a granite counter top? better than expected. Not much in the way of negatives except: - The exhaust fan mounting points either straight back or straight down. Would have eased install if the angle were infinite (like the old Jennair). - The exhaust duct round outlet is 6". When replacing a Jennair, which is the most common downdraft make, your install must somehow transition from 6" round to 5" round (in most homes, I think, because of the Jennair thing) and the space can be very tight. After some expletives and some trips to ***** I finally concord the beast. All else is very happy here. I may update this in a few months.
I have put several ranges in and never had a problem with on covering the old hole. This one has a curved front which means you are going to see through the counter top around the front of back edge of the range. If this is the first range going into the hole, the it won't be a problem to get the hole cut to match the Kenmore. If you are replacing an existing range, it won't cover the entire opening. Also, the way that the range attaches to the countertop doesn't work if you have cabinets right next to the range. Not what I was really expecting when I bought it. It works great, but has a bad design, and looks like **** in my kitchen island.
It looks great on my countertop but if you cook it turning fan on flame and heat pulls away and it is for ever to cook some thing .if I turn off fan my smoke alarm goes off ,such a bazaar . If I try to stir my food on stove it burn my hand every time ,because flame is pulled away from pan. Very poor working ,major design faults grades are too high . I would not recommend this
I really like this new cooktop.I wish the large burner was on the front right instead of in the back left. My only concern is the heat given off from the burners. Sometimes I am afraid I will burn my fingers from the heat coming up the sides of my pot. This is very well made and cleans up well.
Our plumber will be completing installation today and we can hardly wait to use our new cook top. We really appreciate the sales associate (#004432) and her manager who worked out a deal for us even though we missed the big sale by one day! We highly recommend the appliance department at the Everett, WA. store on Everett Mall Way.
Is there such a thing as a perfect downdraft gas stove? No, there will always be a slight issue with the draft sucking the flame. With that stated, when remodeling we had no choice but a downdraft gas stove for our center island. I love this stove, especially the simmer and turbo boil features. I have no complaints. I feel is a great investment and it is worth the price. It isn't a Viking, but I did not want to pay for a Viking. There has never been a time this past year when I wish I bought another model.
