I've had this range for about a year now. All the complaints here are ridiculous. This is the best value avaiable for a stainless gas range. The look is phenomenal. If your grates are uneven take them back because mine are level. Soapy water cleans the glass top, then go back with a dry cloth to buff off smudges (Takes maybe 5 minutes). Cooks great, with good pots it'll boil water faster than any electric I've ever used. All the complaints here are from people who seem to want a 5K+ range for under 2K. From an average cook who wanted a cool looking range that performs well I'd buy it again.

WARNING - GAS EXPLOSION OR FIRE - DO NOT BUY THIS
DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT THERE IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT WITH THE KNOBS. THEY ARE VERY SENSITIVE AND IF BUMPED YOU EITHER GET THE GAS OR THE FIRE. WITHIN THE FIRST FEW MONTHS I WAS ON FIRE IN THE KITCHEN AND BLAMED MYSELF. WHEN REACHING INTO MY CUPBOARD/MICROWAVE THE **** WAS OBVIOUSLY BUMPED AND MY NIGHTGOWN CAUGHT ON FIRE. THEN LATER I WAS SAVED TWICE FROM A GAS EXPLOSION. MY HOUSE WAS FULL OF GAS WHEN I WAS SLEEPING AT 3:00AM MY FRIEND SAVED MY LIFE. I HAVE BEEN ADVISED TO WARN MY VISITORS ABOUT THAT STOVE BECAUSE THEY USE THE MICROWAVE TO HEAT THEIR COFFEE. BETTER YET I SHOULD PUT UP A WARNING SIGN IN MY KITCHEN

Cooks Great, Hate the Cleanup

What I really wanted was a range with a double oven (smaller on top, larger on bottom), but my previous oven was 36" wide, and I could only find that oven configuration in 30" wide. Altering my cabinets to accommodate a 30" range would basically require a total kitchen remodel. Nope, that's not happening. My previous 36" Kenmore lasted 27 years with only a few repairs, so I included Kenmore in my search. Price was definitely a big part of my decision (I found it on sale for $1700). I've had this one for about a month now, and it really does a great job of stove-top cooking and baking (I haven't tried broiling yet). Which is really what I want a range to do. And I like the oven handles - they hold dish towels well. However, there are a few things that you should be aware of in this or any other range: It only comes in Stainless Steel. I knew that it would be hard to keep free of smudges and water drip spots, which is why none of my other appliances are Stainless Steel. But, to get an easier-to-clean finish or a color, I'd have to go to another brand and spend at least $3,000. No thanks. I did find out from friends that Weiman Stainless Steel wipes do a great job of cleaning (don't forget to buff with a cloth afterwards). The glass ceramic cooktop sounded like a great idea - easy to wipe up spills. But be aware that it is black. Black shows everything. Right after cleaning a speck of dust will land on it and it will be glaringly visible. Try to pick it up with your fingertip and the smudge from the oils on your finger will be visible. I like my kitchen to be bright and cheery so I have bright overhead lighting, but when I run out of incandescents and am forced to use CFL bulbs, it should be fine. I won't be able to see anything. At all. Specks of dust, water drip spots, or the printing in my cookbooks. I like that the grates are continuous, as it does make it easier to move pots (especially heavy ones) off the burner. However, they're raise up a bit. Now, this does make for better, gentler cooking (pots don't get hot too quickly and scorch sensitive foods), but if you're short like I am (5'1"), it means lifting the shoulders to reach up into the pots and pans. Doing this for very long will cause a sore neck. But I think most new range grates are raised like this, so there really isn't any other option besides using a step stool, which I wouldn't recommend (safety issues). My previous range had an oven cavity of the same size as this one (which brings up another question: why isn't the cavity in a 36" range wider than the one in a 30" range?), but the lower drawer held the broiler. In this range the broiler is at the top of the oven cavity, and the lower drawer is just for storage. This means that you lose 1.5" in usable oven height. Just so you know for when you need to roast a turkey or large ham, the distance from the bottom rack to the broiler unit is about 10.5". Overall, love the cooking, hate the cleaning.

Had this since 2009.

I have had this since 2009. My knobs are plastic but I have not had an issue with them. However assuming you leave the oven open for a few hours running at full blast, I bet you will damage the knobs. The heat is vented through the back like every other gas oven but not the front. Its not the only oven out there with plastic knobs so W-t-F. A person posted a comment that the she bumped the knobs in her nightgown and her friend saved her life as the microwave was exploding, or something. . The knobs need to be pushed in and turned for the gas to turn on. Maybe she bumped it big tuckus on the **** and turn it without knowing causing the gas leak. Thank g-d her friend was there otherwise she could have caught the whole trailer park on fire!! A friend at 3:00 am, get married already!! Really, it has a heavy duty 36 inch stove on top and a standard 30 inch oven on the bottom. Nothing fancy electronic but looks good and works in a practical way for those not in the 1%. I have a house I am remolding for sale and will put this unit in so I am a second time buyer.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Dangerous purchase

I purchased this stove and have had many issues with it that Sears will not resolve without charging a ton of money!!! The plastic knobs are just the beginning of the issues that you will have to eventually deal with. My oven door explodes from the gas pressure because it will not ignite. I have to stand vigilantly beside to ensure that the oven pilot ignites or else I will have a killer stove on my hands!!! I will never buy from Sears again!!

Does the job

I love cooking with gas after cooking with electric for most of my life. I will never go back to electric now that I got this stove. I like the cooking light and we have used the convention cooking once- otherwise I forget that I have it. I got the stove because I liked the long burner in the middle and we have used it a couple times but I don't suggest you buy the pan that fits with the stove as the sides on that pan are not steep enough for holding anything should it go over the sides. Also that pan is super heavy! What I don't like about this stove is that when you have the timer on, you can't see the clock time. Also the black cooktop is hard to keep clean - you see smudges and salt partials all the time. We clean our stove with ****** cleaner and once a week we use a stainless cleaner to the front of it. Now comes the biggest thing I hate about this stove: where the knobs are to turn the front burners on, the letters are rubbing off. Yes, rubbing off! I can actually rub them off as they are not permanent. So where is states Left Front, Left Rear, Right Rear, Right Front and Center Burner it no longer states that. One of them states "ft e" for Left Rear" and "g t r" for Right Rear, etc. One burner says nothing next to the ****. When I wrote the company, I heard nothing back and when I asked Sears about it, they said I had to be careful with what I used to clean it with and they do come off. Seriously? ****** cleaner and stainless cleaner since it is stainless steel on the front. They said I would have to buy a new front panel if I wanted the letter again, so they could rub off again- I don't think so. I think this is a safety feature. We've had the stove three years with no service on it and just last week, the controller just went out on it. Switch to gas if you have not already- you will love it!!!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Love this

I have good luck with this stove. Only thing I don't like is that the simmer burner is in the back and should be in the fron to allow constant stirring or whisking. I also find the oven a bit small for the size of the stove.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

how about them knobs

this range has met my expectations in its overall function. however I would like to know how any quality assurance design engineer could have in his right mind approved the lousy quality control knobs on this stove -- disgusted is putting it mildly-- come on, cheap plastic , that's right cheap plastic knobs -- in todays world they have plastic that is strong durable and will last ten thousand years -- these control knobs are terrible --- for a little more money YOU COULD HAVE HAD A GREAT PRODUCT -- FIX IT SEARS -- HOW ABOUT A SET OF REPLACEMENT KNOBS OF HIGH QUALITY -- PLEASE !!!
