Product Description

Kenmore Elite 27" Electric Combination Wall Oven - Flexibility and Power

This Kenmore Elite 27" electric combination wall oven 4880 combines the convenience of a microwave and the control of a convection oven in one powerful package. With a full range of microwave functionality including Turbo Roast & Bake, sensor cook and auto-cook settings, this 27" electric wall oven handles all your microwaving needs. The True Convection oven setting employs a fan and a third heating element to bake and cook evenly and efficiently, even using all three racks. The Kenmore Elite wall oven also includes a handy temperature probe, which shuts off the heat when the desired temperature is reached.

  • True Convection combines a powerful fan with a hidden heating element to spread heat evenly, helping bake, brown and crisp everything from turkeys and roasts to brownies and pies.
  • With the power of convection and microwave cooking together, Turbo Roast browns, crisps and roasts everything from turkeys to leg of lamb for amazing meals in minutes.
  • Turbo Bake combines the performance of a heated convection fan along with microwave technology to deliver crisp, evenly baked breads and pies while quickly cooking your food.
  • A built-in microwave oven uses the power of convection to heat foods from the interior and exterior simultaneously, so meals are cooked to perfection inside and out.
  • With the push of a button, the total wall oven lockout feature secures controls and prevents temperature tampering, especially from the smallest fingers in the house.
  • The Convenient Temperature Probe produces perfect doneness every time by automatically turning off once your turkey or roast reaches precisely the right interior temperature.
  • The Self-cleaning function conveniently cleans the oven's interior using high temperatures to burn spills, soil and soot away without a bit of scrubbing.

Nice features.

This combo unit has a great feature set... only thing missing is proofing/proving.  All-glass front looks nice, but is a slight challenge to keep free of finger prints.  Ours is situated so that all the air from the fans doesn't bother anyone, but I could see how it might if the kitchen was arranged differently.  Fans could also stand to be quieter, but it doesn't bother us. We got Kenmore over the Whirlpool Maytag models because those have a history of blowing thermal fuses after oven cleaning.

Kenmore Combination Microwave/Wall Oven

I am extremely unhappy with this product.  The microwave's venting fan is located on the front of the unit.  The fan is loud, very strong (I can feel it 8 feet away), and continues to operate for a full two minutes after the microwave has shut off - even if doing nothing more than a 30 second re-heat of a cup of coffee. The location of the vent means that this very strong air flow blows directly on my face and neck as I use the microwave (I'm 5-7" tall).  It has been annoying since we installed it but now that the weather is cold, it is EXTREMELY irritating.

Additionally, both the microwave and oven seem to take longer to cook and somewhat more unevenly than other ovens we've owned.   For example, when I cook popcorn, whether I use the dedicated "popcorn" button, the "sensor" feature, or put the cook time in manually, there are a lot of uncooked kernals left even when the rest of the corn has started to burn.

I have explored returning the unit, but the cost of having it removed, transporting it back, and buying and installing a different manufacturer's product is prohibitive.  I have tried to find someone within Sears/Kenmore who will respond to this design complaint but without success.  Do not buy this product.

Electric Combo Wall Oven Performance

Good product. Great cooking. Alarms a bit much. Easy to use. Three suggestions: 1. Bottom oven could be deeper for more effective use of space. 2. Would prefer flat rotating surface versus lipped plate supplied. OK for liquids but makes it harder to remove dishes. Option for either/both? 3. Exhaust fan for microwave blows in face of anyone under 5-foot, 6-inches tall. Very happy with product so far.
