We liked the looks and layout of the Kenmore Elite, Counter-Depth, French Door, Bottom-Freezer Model 72043, and were eventually able to step up and buy one of these beauties for the hefty price of $2,999. Kenmore Elites usually get good reviews in the consumer mags, so we were confident that we had purchased a quality product. After using the unit for several weeks however, we soon discovered that beauty was only skin deep, and that our unit exhibited serious problems. The problems were as follows: freezer compartment was not completely frost free, and food packages and bags iced up after two to three days. Every time the bottom freezer drawer was closed, the unit wheezed like an old accordion. The unit also ran exceptionally noisy, and could be heard humming and making other odd noises at considerable distances. Another issue was the top double doors. No matter how hard the Sears technician tried to level them off, he was unsuccessful. Based on the technician's assessment that our unit was unfixable, we called Sears Customer Service who immediately sent out another unit. The second unit exhibited more of the same symptoms as the first, only worse. The technician's diagnosis this time was that the entire refrigerator box was twisted and not plumb. Sears sent out a third 72043 refrigerator which basically had the same problems as the first two. The technician this time said there was no fix for the bottom freezer not maintaining a frost free environment, and said he could do nothing further. To its credit, Sears customer service stood behind its products and reputation. As much as we liked the cubic footage, layout, ice maker, and stylish appearance of the Kenmore Elite 72043, we decided three was enough and exchanged the last one for a GE Cafe French Door model. A world of difference, with not a single complaint. We are now very satisfied, and will continue to be Sears customers in the future.
Okay- for as far as refrigerators go, what's not to love with this one. The reason i love it is simply because it fits. Most of the refrigerators are great, but oversized and will not fit a small space. This fit the bill for our size needs. The downside is that I actually paid more for a smaller refrigerator, which is why I didn't give it 5 stars. Features. dings if the door is open too long. Great for children and husbands that stand in front of the refrigerator. ;o)
Love this Fridge! I think the layout definitely makes great use of space. 3 drawer freezer is awesome. I was concerned that the ice capacity would pose a problem because we use alot of ice. But it hasn't been an issue. Hope this fridge lasts a along time! If I could change anything, it would be that on only one side the shelf pushed back for tall items, not both. I don't think I will be using that feature much and its inconvenient to have that lip which creates uneven shelves (bothersome).

I am very disappointed in my 9.5 month old refrigerator. My last refrigerator from Sears was over 20 years old and still running strong; yet I wanted to upgrade my kitchen to stainless and had researched various options for over a year before buying this model. I came home to a very loud noise which was related to the "ice maker" fan motor's positioning on the "grill" which results in the fan freezing up; in turn impacting the freezer's ability to work. Sears came out the same day; however, what was shocking is that they identified this as a "known defect" and told me I was just lucky it had broken before my 12 month warranty was expired. For such an expensive refrigerator, I would expect Sears to proactively stand behind their products; however, the repairman told me I should complain to LG (not Sears) as it's manufactured by LG and it's their fault. Talk about passing the buck. Very disappointed and concerned with how long it will work before something else breaks. Repair person tried to sell me a $500+ annual mtce agreement as he advised there were plenty more parts that might break. After investing over $3K on a refrigerator, I'm very disappointed in the quality of the product. Looks are great.
I have had this since approx. Dec. 30, 2013. It's not quite as large inside as I thought but I LOVE THIS FRIDGE.......so far. I can find anything at a glance. No more moving things around and playing hide and seek to find a jar of pickles. I love to open the fridge and just look at this beautiful machine. Everything is at my fingertips. The freezer is adequate but I have a large freezer so this is perfect for the kitchen. No problems with the icemaker. I checked reviews prior to purchase and was satisfied enough to make this the fridge I bought. I'll see how things are in on year.

We bought the Kenmore Elite 25 cu. ft. French-Door Counter-Depth Bottom-Freezer in December, 2012. We loved this refrigerator from day one. Compared to our old Kenmore 25 cu. ft. side-by-side that it replaced, the new refrigerator was very quiet and much more functional in terms of layout. It's wider and shallower than the typical refrigerator which makes the contents easier to see and more accessible. The only quirk (if it can be called that) about this refrigerator is a small amount of water drips down into the catch basin of the water/ice dispenser. I suspect this is mostly due to condensation. If you live in a dry climate this may not be a problem. We live in a humid environment and can't use the Energy Saver because of condensation on the door edges. Other than that we've been very pleased with the refrigerator's performance. After 11 months of ownership the refrigerator display reported an error code "ER IF". A quick search of the internet revealed this to mean that we had a problem with the icemaker fan. As suggested on the internet, I unplugged the refrigerator for 30 seconds to reset the LED display and plugged it back in. The error code went away but came back after a few hours. Another reset cleared the display again but the error returned once more. This time I reset the refrigerator and discarded the ice which seems to have fused together into a large clump. Problem solved or at least it appeared to be. The error code did not return and the refrigerator seemed to work normally for another month. Then we began experiencing an intermittent noise that sounded like a vibrating fan (no error code). It was quite loud and could be heard in the next room. Time to call Sears Maintenance. The rep I spoke with was very helpful and there was a service bulletin on the error code I had experienced. She ordered the parts required for the fix to be sent directly to our home and scheduled a service appointment to effect the repair. Unfortunately, I only received one of the two parts required so the technician could not perform the repair. He reordered the missing part which I received by UPS a week later. When the technician returned he managed to replace the defective parts and complete the repair in less than an hour. It's been a month since the repair was made and the refrigerator is working just as it did when it was new. Overall I'm quite pleased with it and would recommend it to a friend with some reservations.

Awesome technology built in. Love the slim ice maker in the left door, you almost don't even see it. Really great finish on the doors of the refrigerator.
