Great coffee maker! Love it!

I purchased this on New Years Day and have used daily since.  After 40+ pots of coffee, I am thoroughly satisfied! This is a very well-constructed unit.  It's probably double the weight of the basic Mr. Coffee I had used for the last 9 years and the "fit and finish" are top of the line.  There is a charcoal filter that clips in and fits down into the bottom of the reservoir but I usually use filtered water as well.  Even without filtered water when my pitcher was empty, it still made great tasting coffee.

The touch screen style buttons are easy to use and easy to keep clean.  It is very easy to program and I use that feature daily.  You can use paper cone filters or the permanent gold-tone cone filter that comes with it.  So far I have used only the permament filter.  It does a great job and gives you full flavor using a little less coffee.  I think the flavor is better than with a traditional basket filter.  You can select Bold or Regular but I usually always use Regular since I only brew full pots for my wife and I.

I compared this model with several other brands in this price range and the others just did not come close to this Kenmore Elite. Even if this model is priced a little bit higher, I think it is well worth it for a quality product and something I use and enjoy daily.

New Design, Significantly Lower Quality...
We purchased this unit to replace the "Elite 14 Cup" which it had replaced... Almost immediately we noticed several issues that proved to be a much lower quality product over its predecessor. 1) The top of the coffee maker gets EXTREMELY HOT due to its new design. I often times place my hand on the top of the maker when removing the pot. The older design had a double wall design which controlled heat. The new design is a very thin one layer which (in my opinion) is a very poor, unsafe change. 2) The front lower corners of the programmable screen now drips water from the seams onto the lower base... 3) The older unit had backlit lights that made for ease of operation in a darklit room convenient. - The newer black touch screen cannot be seen unless the lights are on. 4) The newer unit literally takes 3X longer to brew the same amount of coffee as the 14 cup. 5) 14 cups down to 12 cups...

TOPS IN LOOKS

I repurchased this model 1 month ago...my first unit the heating element quit...Sears replaced it without hassle...unfortunately they had none in stock...so I took another brand. I noticed this online...and decided to repurchase...and keep the other as a backup...I like the style...and simple to use features. Makes a great cup of Coffee on the Regular setting. I do know you have to be Gentle when pressing the controls...the filmcovering on the Buttons will peel and bubble...watch your fingernails....My first unit showed stress on the Buttons. I also like the 5 year...in store exchange...You cant beat that. My Cuisinart has a 3 year..and you must mail it off...and wait...So I feel this Elite...is a decent purchase. I'm hoping this unit works a long time.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Unreliable

The pot makes beautiful coffee and has good opitons. However, the soft-touch controls have died 3 times. I took all three pots back under the 5-year warranty, in 3 years, but took a refund this last time and bought a cheaper coffeemaker. Other disadvantages are that it was very tall, wide, and difficult to see into to fill. At least Sears honored the refund policy.

Kenmore Elite Coffee Maker

This is a great looking and performing coffer maker. I owned the model previous to this latest version and feel that it is an improvement on looks, with the blue elimination with more stainless that match my other appliances very well. It does not have the elapse time of brew feature that the previous version had, nonetheless, perhaps not having the annoying alarm every 15 minutes is livable. Easy to clean and operate.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Kenmore Elite coffeemaker is fairly large for my counter

Got this for Christmas 2011. I like having two brew strengths to choose from. It works quickly and keeps the coffee hot for the full two hours, a big plus for me. however, the decal on front with printing for all the switches already has a white rough spot after only 3 months use and this detracts from its appearance. Perhaps a result of a fingernail gouge or cleaning too roughly, don't know how it happened. Also it did not come with any extra charcoal filters. Now its time to replace the filter and I cannot get it to come up on the Sears web site. You'd think it would be a common replacement item easily available but all I found is some filters for the Kurig brand. Also can't find a replacement carfe labeled for this model. I like to have an extra one handy.
