I owned this Grind and Brew for 2 1/2 years and then it stopped heating and then stopped working totally within a few days. By the way I did LOVE it!!!! It made a great cup of coffee and the convenience of having the beans stored right there is a great feature. I returned the now dead coffeemaker to our local Sears store for an exchange under the 5 yr warranty. No problem, however this one did not work properly. The grinder would grind but the water would not brew. So I took it back and they ordered me another one from the warehouse. This one also will not work so it is going back. It think they have a glitch in the software. It's too bad, because I do LOVE this coffeemaker. Fix the problem PLEASE!!! Guess I have to resort back to a separate burr grinder and a Cuisinart maker. :>(
We bought this one on line to replace unit that stopped grinding coffee beans, then quit brewing within a few days. Our new machine does grind but will only grind enough for maybe 2 cups and no more. It is full of beans but only grinds a small amount even though it is set for 12 cups and everything is as it shows in the manual. Have tried numerous times. SOOOOO frustrated with this unit. Will not be buying another one. I am returning this one which has never worked properly from the start. At least the first one worked for multiple months. Very disappointed in the quality of this unit since it is a Kenmore Elite as is our refrigerator and stove. Must be poorly designed somehow. In the end I have paid over $90 for what can be achieved by a $25 coffee maker.
I am on my second one of this coffee maker. My second one just broke within 6 months of having it just like the first one. Its works really well then just quits working. I will not be buying a third one. Be sure to protection plan in case this happens to you.
It makes excellent coffee as long as you don't use really dark oily beans. Fortunately we prefer light to medium roast coffees and those beans work well with the coffee maker. We purchased it in September 2012, a little over two years ago. It started having occasional problems last summer after about a year and a half. Once in a while it didn't want to grind the coffee. That problem only occurred once or twice and has not recurred. But then the 2 hour auto shut off quit working. I'm trying to contact Sears for warranty support as I believe the coffee maker came with a five year warranty. So far the coffee pot hasn't burnt up or broken, so I think that also says something about the quality of the glass because it has been accidentally left on all day with little coffee in the pot. I sure hope Sears gets back to because for the most part, I love this coffee maker.
I owned the Cuisinart burr coffee grinder and brewer (only sold online only now at $169). While I liked it, it was not easy to clean and I did have to replace it twice. I decided that I would switch to the Kenmore Elite for several reasons: Better design, all-stainless, easier to clean, 5-year warranty and 1/2 the price. This coffee maker beats out Cuisinart's by a mile. Not only is it much easier to clean (no mess like the Cuisinart model), it is completely stainless steel, has more settings and has a much better coffee pot...pours without losing a drop. It also fits under my cabinet, unlike the Cuisinart model. The coffee is DELICIOUS. And I got in on sale for 1/2 the price of the Cuisinart. And the grinder is quieter. I can't say enough about this machine!
We were in need of a new coffee maker. For the last 10 years we have owned 4 cusinart's burr grind & brew. After this last one we decided to not spend $200 and gave this one a try! So far it's good for the price!
I bought this one as a clearance from sears' local advertisement. Stainless steel, quite a big one, grinder included. Great machine for home use. Hopefully the issue described by others won't come to mine.
