When you consider the basic process for making coffee, which is to introduce ground coffee beans to boiling water, this is one of the coffee makers that are a marvel of convenience. You don?t have to guess when filling the reservoir because it reveals the water level. It filters the water to improve flavor and reduce scale deposits. It has the power output to brew quickly and hot as well as a strength setting to increase flavor extraction. This one of the coffee makers that use paper filters or the basket filter. You can program it in advance to brew at a time of your choosing. If you want to pour a cup before the brew cycle is complete, it lets you quickly sneak one without spilling. And then it shuts itself down based on your time preference. And as if these features were not compelling enough, the grinder is great

kenmore elite 12 cup coffee grinder and brewer
This is the second one we bought. The first quit brewing in less than 10 months. The second one timer did not work, had to turn each morning. The timer was not user friendly, once set you could not look at it tell what was set. It was hard toturn off the grinder and set the timer. Bought a new Kitchenaid, One button turn on, dial tells settings simple use and set.

Great when it Worked

I loved the look of this machine. The controls weren't as intuitive as you'd hope, but it made excellent coffee while it worked. Alas, like others have reported, the machine just died on me after about 8 months of daily use. Luckily, it has a 5-year warranty. I'm recommending this still since it has the 5-yr warranty. But if it only had a 90-day warranty, I would not.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

The worse coffee maker ever!

This coffee maker quit working within 6 months, there are never any in stock to get a replacement! The absolute worse Kenmore product I have ever seen. Would not even get another except that it has a 5 year warranty and it cost a lot of money!

Really good machine

I've had this machine for about 3.5 years, use it 5 days per week and it is a great machine. I have noticed that at first it ground a LOT more coffee and over the years I've had to up the setting and I'm now at the maximum (12 cups--strong) and it is barely strong enough at that level. I rarely write reviews but was so surprised at the bad reviews here I thought I let you know of my experience.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Not a good machine

I was given a Kenmore Elite Grinder and Coffee Brewer (100.94006) for Christmas 2011 and the unit has stopped working. Grinder works fine, but the heater does not turn on therefore the water is not brewed. I have only used filtered water in this unit from day one as well. I do not have a receipt as this was a gift, but it does have a five year warranty. I just left the Sears Store and they could not help me with this issue. I was told that I must have a receipt. What am I supposed to do now? I have purchased 2 additional carafes for this as I tend to break coffee pots while cleaning them. So now I have 2 coffee carafes ($50.00) and a coffee maker that will not work and Sears will not honor the warranty. Checking the online reviews on the Sears website, I found that this is an issue with these units. It would seem to me that Sears would honor a warranty ESPECIALLY when the issue is a KNOWN problem. I know what I am going to do......I will NEVER set foot into a Sears store again.

Twice appointed

I've had two Elite 12's. The first was a gift; the second, I bought when the first began to mal-function. After eleven months, the second Elite also malfuntioned--no heat; no brew--NO COFFEE! Sears service proved to be the biggest dissappointment. I was advised to just buy another coffee maker--rather than try to repair the broken one. I am done with Sears' products.

Works great at first, then stops unexpectedly

We have now tried 5 (yes 5) of these in less than 2 years. Loved it at home so we got another for our vacation house. Worked great for 6 months, then suddenly stopped working. Would grind but not brew. Had a 5 year full warranty so Sears replaced it at no charge, only to have it happen again within only 2 months. Then the vacation house one did the same. Again replaced them both via the warranty, though the home one died again last month. Sears refused to honor the warranty despite having receipt and the packaging. Finally got them to issue a gift card. Our most recent vacation home one just died this week (took 8 months, probably because it was used daily) -- will try to return but not expecting much after the last fiasco.
