top end, fully features, a few minor flaws
Only had it a week but here are first thoughts. Overall an excellent micro. Installation - easy EXCEPT top cabinet template is confusing in one dimension, which other reviews have said, and caused holes to be drilled in wrong place in top cabinet, even by experienced installer. Back wall to mtg. screw distance is not given. Dimension is shown to imaginary line where microwave rear edge will be after installation. Poor template design. I contacted Kenmore to correct and they couldn't find anyone to take the information. Kenmore, take note! Now the good stuff - nice look, quiet, strong 4 speed vent and light, many features. Functionally, a very good microwave/convection oven. The not so good - 1) Control panel - lettering hard to see in lower light; not enough contrast. Letters and numbering a dull off-white. Particularly bad for older eyes. 2) Sound - annoying three long beeps at the end of cooking (one would be enough), which repeat again three times after 15 seconds, and again after 30 seconds, and again after another 30 seconds, and again...you get the picture. Yes, you can turn off ALL sound but I do want to know when cooking ends. Just don't beat me over the head with it. A second warning (one beep) after a few minutes would be fine. 3) Minor issue - manual doesn't mention the metal convection shelf and its use, only round rack. With a few little fixes, this could be an exceptional microwave and would move my rating from 4 to 5 stars.

Faulty Part, Poor Design, Kenmore (not so elite) Over-the-range Microwave
If you use this over a gas top stove, it will melt the handle. I wouldn't mind this if Kenmore would back up their product and send me another handle to install every 6 months. There needs to be a recall on this product and let me return this product. Please do not buy if you have a gas stove.

Overall
Over the range convection microwave has a plastic handle which melts.

I've had this appliance for 1 1/2 years and the paint on the cheap plastic handle melts and peals off. Customer service says they've not had any complaints but I just read the reviews and this is an ongoing problem. Sears will not fix it but will charge me $249 plus parts to fix it. I would not buy this microwave again nor any appliance from Sears.

Overall
Good microwave overall

Pros: looks great, reheats and defrosts evenly which is about all we use it for. Cons: the beep is ridiculously loud and it doesn't give you much of a chance to get there before it beeps again. It is also an all or nothing sound option so now the microwave just turns off for us because we can't stand the beep. We have had this for over a year and have not had the issue with the handle melting or bubbling up and we have it over a gas stove the recommended 18" above the stove installation guidelines. We did open the microwave the other morning to find the glass plate cracked in half for no apparent reason. No unusual use the night before so we can't figure that out. Overall, a good microwave and I would say go for it.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Overall
very disappointed!!

I have had this product installed for 2 1/2 years and it broke down, we replaced the thermostat and it still did not work so I called a Sears service agent and paid $146.00 for a service call. He told me the Magnetron and the capacitor were toast and it would be well over $300 to fix it. I am pissed, this microwave is less than three years old and is not used very often, we paid $649.00 for a product that lasted less than three years and now Sears wants to charge me an arm and a leg to fix what should have lasted for many years! The microwave would have to be pulled off the wall for repairs and there would still be no guarantee on this very disappointing product. I have spent thousand of dollars on Kenmore appliance not only for our homes but for rentals as well and at this point I am seriously considering another brand.

Gets really hot to touch

I just picked up the convection microwave from sears yesterday, 01/07/15. I took the remainder of the day to install it. After the install, I tried out the microwave portion and it worked great. I waited till the next day to try out the Convection part. SO, I wanted to make biscuits. I set it on Bake/Roast and it asked for temp? I put in 375. It starts to Preheat. in the preheat now for about 1 minute and a half, and the temp reading is already up to 200, Awesome. Now, at 350! All of a sudden, I notice a weird smell and even a little smoke coming from the top. Then the smoke alarm goes off. Great! I immediately turned it off and start looking around. I noticed the left side was really hot, too hot to touch. I gave up and let it cool down. Later that day, I called Sears to get more info and they put me on hold while they looked into it. After the hold, they said they can't find anything in their books, manuals, comments about it getting hot. They said they will set me up for a technician to come by. I wanted to try again. This time I put the preheat temp to 300. I watched carefully. The left side was getting hot again, so I decided to get out the digital infrared thermometer. The convection temp just made it to it's preheated 300 and the side of the convection was reading 156.F. Wow! But as soon as it made it to the preheated temp, it started to drop. I decided to bake a piece of bread with cheese on it. I set the timer to 5 minuets. The side of the convection kept dropping and ended up at about 109F. The rest of the microwave was around 78-94F. My conclusion so far. It gets really hot during preheat to help get the oven to temp. After reaching set temp then it goes to normal maintain temp. The toast came out good. I'm still going to let the tech come out just to be safe. I will comment on things after I find out if this is normal and the smoke and smell are just it's way of Burning In. I will adjust the star rating too, the reason for 3 is because I'm indecisive right now

Excellent Micorwave

This microwave runs quiet and cooks well. I mostly use it for defrosting and reheating, which it does really well. When defrosting, the food is evenly thawed rather than partially cooked. The sensor reheat works really well and it warms the food to sufficient temperature with no cold spots. Installation was a breeze, but I would recommend, taking measurements from the microwave to correctly drill the holes in the upper cabinet which the unit hangs from. It is easier to drill down than up as indicated using the template.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Broken!!!

I haven't had this microwave for 7 months and it is broken! I had to wait 2 weeks for someone to even come look at to tell me they don't have the part to fix it. I asked them to replace it but due to manufactures warranties I have to possible wait additional 28 days to see if they can find a part. Customer service is useless! UGH

Poor for over the stove use

This microwave was installed by the builder of a new home I purchased 14 months ago. I have had to replace the microwave door three times in that 14 month period because the microwave handle peeled from the heat of the stove. The microwave handle is plastic with while the rest of the door is stainless steel.

Overall
Very poor lighting inside

This microwave looks very nice but is very underpowered for an elite (950 watts) and their is only 1 light on the right side that does not give proper illumination. It looks like there is 2 lights at the store but they are not plugged in so you cannot check. Repair guy said they should have put in a brighter bulb or 2 of them
