10/5/14 I purchased the Elite 8036 Over the range microwave in July 2014 as part of my complete kitchen remodel this past summer. Let me be clear.. I am NOT a cook. I use the microwave mostly to boil water for coffee... :). I bought it because I wanted to have a nice kitchen for a future owner if and when I decided to sell the house. I thought the idea of a combo convection and microwave was a good idea. I paired it with a Kenmore gas range (not Elite series). I even bought the 5 year service plan. Total cost with the plan and after all discounts was $586.10, which was a lot of money for a guy used to buying countertop microwaves. So, while this microwave does boil water, overall I am not impressed with it, especially since it is a member of the "top of the line" Elite series. Here are my gripes: 1. POWER: 950 watts of microwave power is low. My old tabletop micro was 1200 watts and was a fast cooker. 950 is just barely adequate. I understand that there a limit on total power consumption when using convection limits microwave power, but they could have designed a way to allow more microwave power when not also using the convection coil heater. 2. TURNTABLE: I picked this model over a less expensive convection unit because it had a turntable on/off button. But you CANNOT turn off the turntable in convection mode and the manual states firmly that you MUST leave the turntable in place AND use the metal rack when cooking with convection. And since the metal rack sits right in the middle of the oven, your available clearance for tall cookware is limited to just 4.5" on top and 4.0" on bottom. And of course, the turntable must be left in so if you use the bottom for convection cooking, the cookware must be able to rotate. This seriously diminishes the potential for convection cooking. 4. SENSOR COOKING: No setting for boiling water. See my first paragraph... 3. VENT FAN: The vent fan is LOUD and there is almost no discernible difference in noise or performance between the high speed and low speed. 4. BEEPS AND SOUND: ALL the buttons cause the unit to beep (if you have sound turned on). This includes the under unit light (two brightness levels) and the vent fan. Why does it need to beep when I turn on the light or the fan? I wish I could turn off the beeps for everything but the "cooking done" indicator. 5. CONVECTION HEAT LEVELS: In normal convection cooking, there are only 10 heat levels from 100 to 450. However, you cannot set the temp between 100 and 200 degrees. So if you want to cook or warm at 125, 150 or 175 you are out of luck. Also, the "Keep warm" feature is fixed at 170 degrees. I don't know about you, but 125 and 150 are temps that I have used on my old electric range from time to time. Why limit me this way? 6. INTERNAL OVEN LAMP: The internal lamp is rather dim. You kinda have to squint through the door to see what's going on. This lamp should be much brighter, and it would have been nice if it was LED.
This is a very powerful microwave. I haven't used the convection oven feature as of yet, so I can't honestly comment about it. But, if it's as good as the microwave, I'll be very happy with it, too. The only downside that I've found is the noise, but I'm sure that's caused by the size of the oven. I'm still very happy with it overall.

Replaced an 18 year old microwave with this one. Does not pop popcorn as well as old one. Has a button for it, but technician said it required a microwave dish to hold it up higher. Not allowed to put popcorn in a paper bag and pop it for healthy popcorn. In its favor, it does seem to heat food evenly. I am a little concerned about keeping the cardboard clean that covers the microwaves' outlet.
I am impressed with the microwave features, but my favorite is convection cooking. The problem with this unit is, the turntable cannot be stopped using the convection feature. The user manual says, if using a cake pan 9x13 turn off the turntable. It does not work. I had a technician from sears come to my home. He checked it out, made some phone calls and then told me that in the user manual it was a misprint per manufacture. YOU CANNOT STOP THE TURNTABLE IN CONVECTION MODE. This means I am limited to the size of pan/ dish I can use with convection because the three legged rack MUST BE USED ON THE GLASS TURNTABLE on convection settings. I do like everything else on this microwave, so it's a keeper. I just have to get bigger round dishes for the convection use. The option for turntable on / off works great for microwave use.
Bought a week ago and will be returning. Sensory cook/reheat don't allow you to edit how much food you have in the microwave. Ex, 1 or 2 servings. There is no sensory reheat option for "a plate of food" you have to reheat a casserole which is 7 mins. "Favorites" is preprogramed w/ reciepes from the back of the manual with no way to add your own. Low wattage means that it takes a long time to heat anything. I am extreamly disappointed and will be returning the item.

Overall quite happy with this purchase. The noise level is good (i.e. low) for microwave operation, but I wish the vent/fan was less noisy considering the price of this unit. Also worth noting, during convection cooking, the vent/fan is turned on at the low setting to "protect" the oven. So if you're using the convection oven for any length of time, don't expect a quiet kitchen.

Microwave purchased to replace an eleven year old Kenmore Elite unit. Looks good, works great. Falls short considering the cost, due to the noisy two speed exhaust fan (the former had five speeds) and the tinted door glass severely limits sight of the item being cooked inside to near invisible.
