The HEPA filter for our other Kenmore vacuum are about $10 and last over 6 months. The HEPA filter for this bagless vacuum lasted about 3 months. When we went to Sears to buy one we found that the filter isNOT available in the store ands cost $25 plus shipping (unless you're willing to wait 3+ weeks to pick them up in the store). If you don't replace the filter, the vacuum suction is greatly reduced and the motor overheats. This means you spend $100 per year in filters for a $250 vacuum. You lose more money on the HEPA filters than the money you save by not buying bags. It's outrageous that the HEPA filter for this vacuum isn't about the same cost as the HEPA filter for other Kenmore canisters -- and it's clear that it was engineered that way as the HEPA filters for this vacuum are encased in plastic while the HEPA filters for Kenmore canisters using bags are in paper carriers. Of course, you can't find this out until you need to replace the filter as the website doesn't list the filter model and it doesn't have a manual online. If I could rate this ZERO stars I would. It's going to Goodwill after I type this.
I don't know if my old vacuum was just really bad or if this one is just so much better, but I have never seen the amount of dust in the canister after just one use. I really feel like my house is cleaner after using this vacuum. Attachments are great, and emptying the canister is easy. Lightweight, too, so it's not hard to lug up and down stairs. I'm very happy with this purchase.

I have used many brands of vacuums in my line of work ( commercial cleaning service). I eyed this vacuum at my local Sears store and considered it for my home use. I loved the idea of having a bagless vacc. I also liked the features of this vacc such as the metal wand,, the adjustable height of the wand. And the way the power head attaches to the to wand. After several months, I purchased this vacuum. I have to say that I LOVE IT!!! I use it strictly for my own home. I was shocked at how much dirt was in my carpet. And I vacuum several times a week. This bagless vacc had the power to such up hidden dirt in my thick, heavy wall to wall carpet. What I love the most about this vacc is that with each use, I empty the dirt container and I basically am starting with a new vacuum. I hope this vacc lasts me for many years. That's how much I love it!
This little vac is wonderful! I tried a highly rated Samsung vac but I hated it. The Samsung was large, cumbersome, and had no suction on bare floors. I took it back and exchanged it for this little Kenmore. The Kenmore is easy to maneuver even in a tight space like my walk-in closet. If the canister has to be picked up to move or to vacuum in a small space, it has a sturdy handle and it is not very heavy to carry around. The wand is adjustable in length so I can get all the way under my king size bed and reach the corners of my 9 foot ceilings. The carpet/floor attachment is powerful on carpets and easy on bare floors. Changing from carpet to floor is a simple press of my thumb on the handle. The suction that can be adjusted by a little twist of a dial in the handle is excellent! The two most used tool accessories have a convenient attachment on the wand. While the canister is small, I vacuumed 3 carpeted bedrooms and all the bare floors in my house before the motor powered down in warning that the canister was full, which is another nice feature.
If you have a pet(s) do not buy this vacuum. It takes forever to clean out the canister and it is an extremely dirty job. I have to use plastic pliers to pull out the pet hair as it gets stuck inside. The canister has to be changed frequently as it is small. That said, the suction is terrific and the vacuum is easy to use except for cleaning out the canister. I've always bought Kenmore vacuums but this one is not for me. Too bad it's too late to return it. What was Consumer Reports thinking?
Purchased one of these in the Fall of 2013. Returned it within 30 days because the height setting did not function properly. After receiving a replacement unit, I found that the canister motor would not function. Called the help line and was told to disconnect and reconnect the hose into the canister. Problem temporarily solved. Unfortunately, the problem recurred necessitating a second call to the help line. Each time, the hose latch tab was snapped in place before hand. The problem has now occurred again and this time it took several attempts before the canister motor would function. To make matters worse, once the motor activates, after a few seconds it gives off a strong loud noise. Of course, the warranty period has now expired.
This vacuum cleaner is terrible. I have it 9 months now and it has given me nothing but problems. Paid $275.00 for it, so I feel stuck. I dread having to use it now. Takes me forever to vacuum because the filter constantly gets clogged. DO NOT BUY!!!
Clean up is a disaster with this vacuum. Dust and dirt get all over my clothes and home. I have to sweep AFTER vacuuming. Because it's such a mess, I go outside to empty it into a bag defeating the point of it being bagless AND I have to reach into the canister to pull out the hair that's tangled in the canister. Additionally, one has to empty it multiple times during one use. I hate this vacuum.
I love our new vacuum. We have had several vacuums throughout life, but have always came back to "good old Kenmore". The quality of these vacuums is like no other. Cleaning becomes easy and sometimes even fun. The suction power is great. My favorite part is the settings on the height of brushes that clean. High, medium, low or extra low. It really cleans the rugs well. This vacuum has a heap filter, which is great Ina house with allergic people. And emptying the canister is easy breezy with this bagless version of Kenmore. I strongly recommend this vacuum to everyone.
