I am very disappointed in Kenmore. Thought Kenmore would have higher quality stuff. My fault for not finding a a store that stocked it before buying. But this thing is cheap. Like they probly spent 50 $ making it. The lid is 2 thin plastic pieces incasing about an inch a half of fiber glass foam.. The walls of my house have more insulation.. And this thing is supposed to be energy efficient? Doubt it. The lid is flimsy at best. Lift from one corner of the lid and the whole things goes crooked. The seal on on the lid is a joke to. My old freezer used used seal so well it was almost a struggle to open sometimes due to the suction. Well this lid as built as it is could be lifted with a pinky every time. Another annoying factor is that they put controls in back corner which makes for difficult adjustments compared to a front mounted control ****. And to top it all off. Kenmore doesn't seem to have quality control. My box was in perfect shape had corner protectors in the box, yet when I opened it the back corner has 3 medium dings in it. Odd dings too, unexplainable like someone hit it with a bat 3 times in 3 spots.. I will be attempting to return return after I purchase a new one from another company.
We have a larger Kenmore chest freezer in the shed .We bought this smaller model to fit in the kitchen. It's the perfect size ,keeps everything frozen and I love the idea of having three racks instead of two.
I read the reviews on this freezer, so I was a little skeptical. I have had it for less than a month. Everything seems to be working fine and no lid issue. Will be keeping an eye out for the compressor noise and lid issue down the road. Great freezer for the money.
Received it a week or so ago. My fault for not reading about it first...I am not crazy about the manual defrost. I would have also preferred a couple more basket dividers for the bottom. However, it does the job and is nice to have in the garage.
The freezer functions great, but the fiberglass mat insulation in the lid is 1960s technology. They probably could have injected styrofoam for about the same price and increased the structural rigidity by several hundred percent, while increasing the R factor. The week after purchasing the freezer from Sears, I found a similar (Korean made) freezer, about 1 cubic foot smaller, without an interior light, but with foam insulation in the lid for about $100 less.
Pros: Quiet, Holds temp, Nice Size, Made in USA, good price. Cons: Damage lid on multiple units. The first unit had handling damage to the lid that looked like it was the result of a pallet jack slamming into it during distribution. The second unit just had small indents in the lid in several places from the manufacturer. The metal in the lid is very flimsy and damages easily. We just decided to live with the dents on the second one because we were tired of hauling them back to the store for replacement. The first one had damage severe enough to affect the sealing area and the second one was just cosmetic damage. The temperature adjustment **** is on the back corner of the unit making it difficult to adjust if there is a wall next to the unit. Overall: I set the temp to -20?F and it maintains in a window of -10 to -20?F. I would buy it again, but would recommend not leaving the store without opening the box and inspecting the case for any damage. This unit does not have a temperature alarm. If you are looking for the alarm it is only available on the 1694 model.
