This product works like a charm. My whole house was so dry you couldn't touch anything without getting shocked. We are filling the unit 2-3 times in a 24 hour period and the moisture in the air is perfect
I went to check the filter to see if it was dirty today and discovered that the filter was actually falling apart, there were black marks on it that I thought could be mold, after I touch it I realized it was burnt marks! It could have caused a fire. I was told to return it to the store I purchased it at and they would/should replace the filter! That to me isn't acceptable, it should not be like this after 2 months of use. And God forbid someone else has a fire due to this, I suggest everyone check their filters with this unit. It should also shut off and not dry out the filter, that is probably the cause of this problem.
Needed a humidifier for a home we are renting while ours is being renovated. Did some research and tried this unit. It is moderately easy to use and the fan noise I found acceptable at the lower speed for nighttime use. The main issue I had with this model was that I had to refill it too frequently, in my opinion. I returned it to Sears to try out the 12 gal unit. More to come....

This humidifier has 3 fan settings, it does what it says it does. I like that it blows air with moist and I don't see it, the highest setting is loud but it gets my house humidity up and fast for the most part, it also has lower settings that makes this unit quiet, easy to read led and easy to fill the water tank, nice clean design
READ THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL before using this humidifier. It's very simple to use and program. Works great! I use the automatic fan feature.

Works perfectly. I fill it right before bedtime and it last well into the morning (at least). No spritzing of water on anything as this is basically an evaporative cooler (swamp cooler). It pulls the air in and through a wet filter and pushes the moist air out the top. The low setting is quiet though I'll describe it as "white noise"; the two higher fan settings are very loud but I never need them. It's a good idea to use a capful of the bacteriostat liquid (search for it here at sears) at each "fill" of the reservoir; a large bottle will last you years. As long as you use this liquid you can get by with changing the filter once per year. The unit is over four years old and, if it died, I'd buy the same unit again. (Note this unit is available under different brand names - Essick, Emerson, Kenmore - but they all look and -are- the same.
We have a large bedroom with high ceilings and this is perfect for us - very quiet on low setting, we can't even hear it. And it really does the job. Use the bacteriostatic algae and odor product -- a little goes a long way - but with it, the filter might start to smell. This is a good product (although we did have to return the first one to the store because it rattled right out of the box -- the exchange was no problem).
