A nice wine cellar
Firstly, I would like to say that I am very pleased with my Kenmore wine cellar. It is very attractive with the blue digital temperature display. The LED interior light adds a nice touch. I have had no problems with mine. I have read bad reviews of this pruduct. I would like to try to defend this appliance. Many say it will not stop running or cool below 60. Make sure you allow the proper clearance for air flow. I want to say it is around 2 inches for each side. You must allow for adequate air flow as it cools the interior of the cellar using a heat sink. You cant have this on a crammed countertop or try to "fool" it as a built-in in your ultra-compact kitchen. This unit needs space to breathe. Also do not place it near heat sources. This includes your refrigerator as it emits a lot of warm air. You dont want it by the microwave or the oven or stove. It needs to be in a corner by itself with proper air flow clearance. Having that said, don't expect it to be a mini-fridge. It is not made to be opened frequently as natural convection current will draw the cooler air out immediately causing the unit to have to start all over again to remove the heat from the interior. This is to store your wine without opening the door. If you go through that much wine, you should consider a unit that uses refrigerant and can hold more than 6 bottles. If you are a seldom drinker and/or have a few special bottles you'd like to put in an elegant display with a Kenmore seal of quality on it, then this is the perfect item for you. I love my Kenmore cellar. If you do the manufacturer's directions on proper placement of your cellar and leave it shut, it will take care of itself from there. It is very quiet. The double-pained door means business with that aluminum Kenmore badge. The blue backlit temperature gauge draws you to look at it. The soft LED interior light is just right. I highly recommend this affordable Kenmore appliance. Again, make sure you place it in the appropriate climate-controlled environment,

Faulty unit, Keep your receipt.

Wine cooler no longer seems to be powering up.  The light does not turn on, nor does the lcd screen light up.  It seems as if there is a problem with it receiving power or there is/was a short.  I took off the back panel to see if it was a faulty powercord, but the powercord was intact.  My father in law said it may be one of the three heatsinks in the back of the unit (Not the big main heat sink, but the smaller heat sinks on the board).  He is now painstakingly using a multimeter to see why there is no power going to the unit.  Reading all the reviews, I see I'm not the only one with this problem.

Regarding all the problems of the winecooler not able to maintain its temperature, that's because it is not a refrigerator unit, it is a cooler unit using a thermo electric system.  This will only maintain AT MAX a 10 degree temperature change, likly more like 5 to 8 degree's below ambient, depending on where it is placed.  Best placement of a unit like this would be several inches away from a wall, allowing plenty of ventilation through the back.  If your apartment/home is 90 degree's, you would be lucky if this unit could keep it down to 80 degree's.  Also, your going to want to clean out the back ventilation holes and keep the fan clean for maximum performance.  For those complaining, please, please, please do the research before posting problems with your unit.  I knew that this unit is a thermo electric and new it's limitations before buying and its maintenance requirments.

Garbage- Do not purchase!

I was given this as a gift for Christmas in 2007.  As with many of these other reviews, just over a year after that, the device stopped cooling.  It still powers up, and a fan still blows in the back, but the internal temperature remains room temp.

Working with a CSR now to see if they'll do anything about it, but given that its out of warranty, I have my doubts.  Hopefully my brother purchased it on his credit card that extends the warranty by a year beyond the manufacturer's.

Piece of JUNK - don't buy!!!!

We got this Kenmore 6 bottle wine cellar as a gift and it only lasted two years at the most.  The unit overheated and boiled our wine!  Since this unit fit on our kitchen counter we put our most cherished wines in it and it ruined a collection worth at least $400.  The temperature showed 104 degrees - which still boggles me since you can't even turn the temperature past 70 degrees.  You would think that it would shut down and not allow to overheat - or heat at all.  The good thing is that we discovered it before it caused more damage and possibly caused fire in our house.  The unit was so hot that we had to let it cool down before we could pick it up and throw in the dumpster.  Now that I have seen what this unit costs I am not really that surprised - it is very true that you get what you pay for!  Not worth saving the money - save up and purchase a better quality product!

Kenmore wine cooler

Bought this cooler as a gift for my wife. Worked about six months -- then quit! Won't even turn on. Don't buy this!!! Can't even find a place to dispose of it. Disappointed with Kenmore.

Kenmore Countertop Wine Cooler

Bought this item and it has not been 6 months yet and the cooler stopped working. I would not recommend purchasing this item. I thought Kenmore products were ones to last.

Poor product

I received this last christmas as a gift. The one I received I had to return after 1 week because it stopped cooling. I tried another one to see wha would happen even though I read the bad reviews. The second one I received was a little better but would not cool to the temp. I would like or that it should have but I kept it anyway. Just this morning (only after 1 year) it was clicking and it stopped working all together. This should not be a product that is approved to sell because it is just a big waste of money. Buy another product!!! I now have to buy another one after only 1 year!!

Good, but seems to have some reliability issues.

Pros: Looks good along with other black appliances. Very quiet. Blue LCD backlight and LED interior light are nice accents. Maintained a 58F temp no problem (I suspect many of those having trouble with this were providing inadequate ventilation). Cons: When the power goes out, the temperature resets to its lowest setting. Mine developed a problem just short of a year in service. The LCD display showed garbage characters for a while, but went back to normal after leaving it unplugged for a while. Now the temp setting is stuck on 58F and will not change (could be worse). If this unit could survive a power outage without resetting the temp, and if it didn't have these apparent reliability issues, it would get 5 stars from me.

Do Not Buy

I bought this refrigerator and placed in our basement to keep a few bottles of our favorite Vino cool for when company came over. It worked like a champ for the first 6 months, then died. It is now worthless. To have Sears repair is more expensive than buying a new one. My advise, buy a little better unit and not a Kenmore. I am disappointed in the Sears brand and will not purchase again.

Very Poor Quality Product

This unit failed after 6 months of light intermittent use. Fan runs constantly, does not cool at all. With only a 90 day general warranty, do not buy this unit. It will burn you.

doesn't cool properly

Our son gave us the cooler this past Christmas and it hardly cools at all. Our house temperature is 73 degrees and the cooler can only cool to 60. A cooler that can only cool 13 degrees below ambient temperature is worthless.
