good choice, as reviewed by a mechanical engineer

i'm not sure why anyone would call this dehumidifier noisy. Unless you're placing it next to your bedrest, or in your living room, you will never hear this thing. The compressors are quite and the fan has two speeds. When one first plugs it in and the unit is required to run on high to initially bring humidity down, it is a bit noisy, but you need to pull a lot of air across the coils to remove moisture; this is common sense. After the initial run when the dehumidifier knocks the humidity down to a level that it now only needs to maintain, the unit runs on low, cycles on/off and is quite.

Side note: when i went to sears to purchase, the sales associate tried to upsell me relentlessly on the 70 pint unit. amateur. Unless you live in a swamp and your basement is leaking tons of water, you absolutely need nothing more than a 50 pint. check the internet for dehumidifier capacity calculators to prove it to yourself.

i put this in an old basement w/ stone and sand foundation (not poured concrete) that was literally weaping water from the walls onto the floor (pretty rainy year) and after a few days this 50 pint unit made it bone dry in what used to be a nasty, dank basement. It had dried the walls so well that the ground on grade on the exterrior of the basement walls (outside) had dried out to the point of cracking with dryness.

people listed heat gain as a con... a dehumidifier puts out heat! laws of physics mandated by the refrigeration cycle. the more capacity (measure in pints of water removal) the more heat a unit will generate. Your refrigerator does the same thing!

i did a lot of research, and this one does it for me. I only hope it holds up. reliability is one of my fears from reading others' reviews.

Kenmore 50 Pint Dehumidifier with Electronic Controls

I just bought this dehumidifier a month ago and it runs extremely loud.  It operates fine but the noise level is much greater than my old Kenmore that I replaced after 8 years.  I also don't think I should have to replace a dehumidifier after 8 years so perhaps I should stop buying appliances large and small from Sears.

Easy to use

Automatic humidy controls make the unit very easy to use and drain hose connection means water can drain directly in to well so the unit is maintenance free

works great

This unit does a great job pulling moisture out of my basement. Note- to set it up to a direct drain useing the included hose will require you to bust a hole in the drain tank, meaning once you go to the direct drain method you can not go back to useing the bucket drain.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Kenmore 50-pint dehumidifier is great!

We have a very humid, hot basement, that smelled very musty!  I bought the Kenmore 50-pint dehumidifier, set it on 45% humidity to run all the time!  Have it drained into my sump pump so I don't have to worry about emptying it!  I love it!  My basement no longer smells!  It is cooler down there and just feels dry!  I love it!  Highly recommend it!

Is a bit better than I expected

Picked this up after reading a few reviews, was thinking it wouldn't be perfect since some reviewers said it was noisy. I was on the fence with ordering a different model online but broke down and picked it up at a local Sears. To my surprise it was pretty quiet when I turned it on. I installed it and threw it in automatic mode right away. I believe this uses 50% moisture setting and a low setting on the fan. I spend a decent amount of time in the bestment within about 20 feet of it and no walls, pretty quiet and it comes on a few times an hour for a few minutes at a time. A huge improvement over the noise level of the 10 year old Kenmore it replaced. Thumbs up.

Perfect

After reading reviews all over the web. This dehumidifier was the best bet for the money. I have had it for several weeks and works great. It is quite and I have not shut it off since i have boughten it. It does fill up rather fast " twice a day" not sure if its because the tank is small or that I have that much moisture in my basement. It does come with an attachment to drain directly outside but my basement is rather large and I tend to move it around to other rooms. Overall great buy and glad I went with the Kenmore.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
