I purchased and had installed on 6/14/12. It is 7/30/12 and the pilot will not stay lit and subsequently I have no hot water. I called to schedule service and the earliest available is 3 weeks! I asked to speak with a supervisor, answer....no. I called back and tried again. They said I could speak to a supervisor this time, but please hold. I was on hold for 10 minutes, and then I heard the dreaded sound like I left the phone off of the hook. They disconnected. Must I say more? Sears is aweful
Got this unit from Orchard Supply because it had low-nox and might not leak for 12 yr. No problems for 3 months. Now when every we use hot water which causes the heater to start burning there is for about 5 seconds a loud HUM sounds like a Fog Horn, throughout the house. I am in the process of learning why and what to do about it so would like to here from you in tech support?
Replaced a 13 year old 40 gallon Kenmore with the 50 gallon. Works like a charm. Installed it in a few hours with help from a plumbing savy friend. The hardest part was get the right vent tubing. I have the heat setting below 'A' with D being "very hot". Even though it holds 10 extra gallons, we'll have to crank up the heat to fill up our Jacuzzi tub. Did the math, and compared to a professionally installed tankless water heater, this was the best value by far.
Works excellent. Happy with the temperature settings. Perfect for a sports family of 4 that take way too long showers and run appliances constantly, you will never run out of hot water with this one set on the middle setting. Did extensive reasearch on all brands and Kenmore came out on top. Have been using for 6 months. Quiet running. I'm not sure why anyone would buy the other brands of gas heater that require a plug-in for 24 volt adapter. If you lose power with those you have no hot water. Seems silly. Also power adapters create heat which could lead to a fire potential especially when they fail. I installed in attic by attaching a nipple and T-fitting to the inlet and outlet on top, connected them with 2 ft strap, and used a chainfall connected to attic rafters to hoist up. I did have to remove attic ladder to fit. I took that opportunity to replace the old flimsey ladder (also an easy task).

After almost 20 years my water heater died. Researched many brands and decided on the Kenmore 50 gallon model. Working great but anxious to see the first gas bill to see if the savings will be there. Minor complaint - there's a dull rumble when heating, not loud but is audible.

Excellent water heater. Very efficient and heats up water very fast. Tank is well insulated and keeps water hot for long periods of time without having to constantly reheat.
Easy to install. I have the temp control **** on the lower end of the temperature range (maybe 25%) and it's still really hot, meaning this thing can get to some pretty high temperatures if desired. The true test will be if it last 12 years.
looked everywhere and could not beat the price anywhere. installed easy and works perfect. has an igniter, so you do not even need a match to light
Purchased this item from samples on the sales floor. I was impressed with the warranty and the final purchase price. The water heaters that are purchased at some of the big box stores are overpriced and frankly not a very good value according to my Plummer.
