I've had many B&D, Mr.C... you name it. The other brands 4-cup makers are just not wuite enough. The 12-cups are a waste. The Kenmore 5-cup is the Best Coffee Maker I've ever owned. It is sturdy and everything is easily accessible. Easy to fill and easy to clean. I don't think it gets any better than this!
My wife and I decided we needed more than just an occasional cup of coffee so we decided to purchase a coffee maker. We wanted one that would not require those paper filters. We found this one at our local Sears and were pleasantly surprised at the check out where we received a discount and paid only $16.00. It is simple to use and makes a great cup of coffee. There are bright white water level markers inside so that you can estimate the right amount of water to use. I've found however that they aren't accurate. If you fill the tank to the 1 cup marker, it will only produce about 2/3 a cup of coffee. You have to go above the marker. I pour the water into the cup I plan to use first, filling it to near the top and then pour it in. This method will give you the correct amount of coffee. The reusable filter is nice too but seems very fragile so treat it kindly. It can be programmed the night before so that you wake up to the aroma of freshly brewed coffee. I've found programming to be unnecessary as it brews the coffee so quickly I just make it when I get up in the morning. It takes just a couple of minutes to make a steaming hot cup of coffee. We have only owned it for a couple of weeks so I can't comment on how long it will last.
I had numerous problems with another brand so decided to try this Kenmore. Wanted a programmable 5 cup and this looked good. I have used one for a year now and it still works great so I bought one to give as a gift. I'll buy this one again.
This great little coffee maker has a timer and makes 5 cups of coffee--just enough for 2 mugs in the am. It has a nice compact design, heavy duty cord, and a re-usable filter. A perfect coffee maker for an individual, at home or in the office.
I've had this coffee maker for five years--and it still works great!!! I just purchased another to have when mine quits, but it's still going strong. I love the carafe size, but unfortunately I broke the first and had to settle for a different sized replacement, which doesn't activate the drip shut-off feature, but I still love this little coffee maker! I use a small gold wire basket instead of paper filters.
the only problems I came across is the water fill lid flops down on it's own and the metal perm basket is coming apart. I don't see them available in store, but deff would buy same model. wish they sold baskets
The unit makes good coffee and no problems to date. Except the lid started developing cracks from the heat. I have tried to glue them back together and finally resorted to getting a 5 inch wide piece of strapping tape to put over the lid. The hinge finally let go so I am in the market for a new machine.
The Kenmore 5 cup brewer was ordered with introductory ************* by SHOP YOUR WAY on Tuesday and was scheduled to arrive on Thursday. I had some doubts about that as it was not in stock at the warehouse and would be shipped from a Sears store. It arrived about 10 AM Thursday from a store 400 miles distant! The brewer is well designed with no quirks unlike the 5 cup unit it replaces. The previous unit (different brand) had a squat carafe with a minimal spout making it almost impossible to pour a full pot of water into the brewer without water running back under the spout and onto the counter. Once that started there was no stopping it. Also, the warming plate was recessed so deep the pot had to be inserted at a precise angle or the carafe top caught on the grounds basket above. This Kenmore has a tall carafe with adequate spout and always pours well into both brewer and cup. And it slides smoothly onto the warming plate. It quickly brews two and a half MUGS of coffee. just right for one person. The instructions say to use junior paper filters. I find standard basket filters fit equally well. I LIKE IT!
Wow, did those of us who had the plastic/metallic-flavored coffee all get coffeemakers from the same bad lot? It's been nearly a month of everyday brewing, and that horrible taste is still there, even after several cleanings. I love all the features on this pot and it's the perfect size, now after months of looking for the perfect coffeemaker....I have to return it because of the taste. I may try a different one from a different store...maybe I'll get lucky and get one that wasn't made with an oddball plastic formula or something.
