My old water heater was a Kenmore with a 5yr warranty, that heater has been in the house with zero problems for at least 15+yrs. I live in an area with hard-water so after 15+ yrs it sounds like a football team at practice in my utility room from the water cavitation in the tank. My old tank was not leaking nor malfunctioning but I wanted to install a newer unit because I felt buying a water heater is cheaper than fixing a water damaged room. I needed a new heater and was researching around the various home building stores. After considering various units from other manufactures I decided to look at Kenmore. The install was easy, and the pilot light lit on the first try. It is very quiet and took about an hour to come up to temp but it seems to be running great. If I have problems I will re-post any issues I encounter. I would have left 5 stars but durability is an important aspect of any appliance for me and since this one is new it will have to wait to get 5 stars. I did also notice that there are electronics powering the system. I would imagine that the heater is using a battery and a thermoelectric generator to get the power from the gas heat. Cool idea to use that pilot light for something extra.
Easy to install and a nice easy swap out gets really hott fast and the hotwater just keeps coming... definitely makes a huge difference in my grand parents house and I installed during the christmas hollidays with the house packed full of guests and there was never a water delay and nobody even came close to a cold shower... the water reheats so fast you couldnt possibly get cold water out of the hot water faucet... it is verry efficient on keeping the water hott...

My water heater rusted out and was leaking; I called Sears on a Saturday night and within 2 days it was replaced. The technician was extremely polite, explained how the heater worked, answered my questions, and did not leave a mess.
First of all, the gentleman who sold me the water heater was excellent. He knew his business and he was extremely polite and friendly. The new water heater was installed in a timely manner by a very qualified installer. I received my paper work and the city of Coon Rapids did an inspection and all was well. I am pleased with the service I received and was happy to know about the warranty which I did purchase as well. Thanks for the good service.

Do not buy this piece of ****. It just stopped working after only 2 yrs. I have to pay more money to have someone from Sears come out and fix it. What a joke! If that cost is too much, I will just buy a new one and it definitely won't be from Sears.

Bought this water heater after the one I had at my rental house started leaking. I liked the looks of this heater and the self cleaning feature for sediment buildup. I like the 9 year limited warranty also. I had two guys put it in and other than it being taller than my old one and adjustments had to be made to the exhaust fittings the install was flawless. First time ignition started right up. Heating well and no problems yet. I don't like the plastic drain faucet, for the money you would expect brass. Everyone is cutting corners on their products now......

Works well, appears to be decent quality. The drain value was put on sideways and it has a computer! There's no mention in the manual how to replace the battery so if it dies on year 10 I will never buy another Sears water heater.
