Our lifesave!

Woke up one fine Sunday morning and found my water heater sitting in a big pile of water.  It was old and finally gone out.  I called Sears and with little help from the car salesmen-esque sales associate on the phone, I decided to go in and see if there was a water heater we could pick up asap.  Went in and found the best salesmen ever (Curtis Frise in the Concord, CA location)!  Not more then 15 minutes later, we were waiting at their pickup dock to take home our new water heater.

Pro- super easy to install.  My husband and I have limited knowledge on gas lines and the like.  Called our father in law and we got that bad boy hooked up in no more then an hour.  Full hot water was available about 3-4 hours later.  PERFECT!

Pro- super quiet.  Our old one used to bang and make all kinds of noise.  This one, I can't even hear when the water is heating up.

Pro- indicator box.  There's a box that has a blinky light that depending on the blinks, lets you know what (if anything) is off with the machine.  The paperwork comes with a guide to explain what all the blinks mean.  As long as it only blinks once at a time, you're ok;)

Con- EXPENSIVE!!!  With the extended warranty, it came out to a little under $800.  Thank goodness we installed ourselves because that was another $250.  YIKES!

Failed in less than 2 months
After less than 2 months, the water heater stopped heating water. The automated phone service used for repair/warranty takes forever. The fastest they can get a technician out for service is 2 days, and that?s ?emergency service?, so I have to be without hot water for 2 days in December. While I?m writing this review before the service, I read the fine print on the warranty, and it says after the first year the warranty is only for parts, so they can charge you anything they want for labor. I?ve had Kenmore water heaters for the last 40 years without problems, but now I have to seriously reconsider any new purchases.

Good Water Heater

I purchased this water heater and installed it myself almost 7 months ago. It's the best water heater I've ever had. It's heats up fast, and never runs out of hot water, unlike my previous water heater. It has a new pilot light lighting system which is easy to use. I'm very satisfied with this model.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Overall
2 Water heaters, both leak at installation

I purchased this water heater and had it installed by a plumber, it leaked water near the burner, I took it back and replaced it with the same model, again had it installed, it also leaked. Sears on-line tech. support no help at all, would not even answer my question. I am returning this one again tomorrow. WILL NOT purchase a Kenmore product again

Incorrect water heater was sold to me

Even though I stressed that I lived in a manufactured home, I was sold a water heater that could not be installed when it arrived the next day. When I returned to Sears to inform them, they advised me that it would be a WEEK before they could install the correct one. Since my current water heater had started leaking and making noises, I found that to be an unacceptable situation, and was forced to cancel my purchase and find the product at another store.
