There is little heat emanating from this H2O heater, implying the internal insulation is good. You won;t need a heater blanket for it. Very quiet.

Just installed it. Not top of the line, but good, so I expect to be very satisfied. Installation easy except for the soddering piece and getting the unit into the attic.

This water heater was perfect for my needs, was easy to install and works great. The only reason for the four star rating was because it is a bit noisy and I wasn't expecting that.
This is the updated version of the old water heater. It was easy to install and works great. While is may just be a basic water heater it is an excellent, quality product. For the price you can't beat it and it will save you money versus the cost of operating an old, crud ed up water heater.
After comps to other major DIY stores and a plumber I chose Sears Kenmore for the best combo of price and reliability. The various store prices for a 40 gal, 6 yr warranty were similar, but the reviews seemed to favor Kenmore as having fewer breakdowns, and more willingness to work with the customer when there was a problem. I bought the additional warranty for about $50 to have a plumber fix any parts if needed. Seemed worth it vs the time I would have to spend figuring it out. Also, I had Sears do the install. The plumber and crew were excellent. No additional work was required to make the new unit fit. They arrived on time and took the old unit with them. Overall, I have plenty of hot water with an extensive warranty at a price 1/3 less ($400 less) than the plumber's quote. The last "quality" unit by the plumber only lasted 3 months past the 6 year warranty. So, I don't think I am sacrificing quality by going through a big box store instead of a plumber. So far, so good.
